Yue Mingkong was no ordinary woman. Despite the countless thoughts that flashed across her mind, she managed to retain her composure as no strange expression was revealed on her flawless face.

“What do you mean, Changge? If anyone wants to call it quits, it would be you since you’re the one that dislikes me.” She shook her head and turned to Gu Changge with a pitiful look. Her cutesy act strangely added a charm to her personality. After all, she was supposed to be an authoritative queen that conquered Celestial Dynasties and oversaw all lives, and none would have expected her to reveal such a childish side.

As if he wasn’t at all surprised, Gu Changge revealed a casual smile. “I didn’t mean anything I said. Relax, Mingkong.”

“I thought you hated me…” Yue Mingkong muttered as she lowered her head. She was trying to re-enact her previous behavior with Gu Changge. Back then, she would always try to get his adoration and attention, only to be treated with the cold shoulder.

Nonetheless, so as not to expose too much difference between her and her previous self, she didn’t deliberately change anything as she would pretend she was living with him in the previous life. She was humble and careful, and she loved him to the bones.

Moreover, in that instant, Yue Mingkong felt that Gu Changge, like her, too had regressed from the future. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said such things to test her. Thus, she grew more cautious as she knew how terrifying the methods of her fiancé were. Hence, before she could get a better understanding, she mustn’t let him know that she was from the future, or things would get unimaginably atrocious. Besides, if he managed to kill her once in the previous life, it was only reasonable that his cunningness grew.

With that in mind, Yue Mingkong instantly felt depressed, but she quickly collected her emotions and forced herself to calm down. She felt compelled to be even more careful. Essentially, her behavior for the last six months was totally different from that of her in her previous life. Furthermore, this warm, caring side of Gu Changge was highly likely a pretense to captivate her, in which its purpose was to test her behavior. Otherwise, the fact that his behavior was different in the previous life made no sense.

“Mingkong, I sense that you’ve gone through a massive change recently.”

At once, Yue Mingkong was dumbfounded as Gu Changge shot her a knowing gaze with his confusing eyes. As such, she couldn’t help but feel anxious, wondering if he figured her out. Since her regression was her biggest secret, she must not let it be exposed.

“What are you saying, Changge? How did I change? You, on the other hand, were never nice to me like this. What happened to you?” Hearing that, Yue Mingkong revealed an appropriate trace of suspicion in her eyes as she stared at Gu Changge as though she saw through him. In that instant, it became an acting spar as she couldn’t afford to let him know the truth.

Nervous, she realized that despite being the ruler of Unrivaled Celestial Destiny, who influenced the world and controlled the lives of innumerable beings, she remained helpless in front of Gu Changge. No matter what it was, she felt suppressed by him.

“Indeed, I’ve been… harsh to you. But I promise to treat you better from now on.” After listening to her, Gu Changge seemed in agreement as disappointment and remorse surged on his face.

“Changge, d-do you mean it?” With that, Yue Mingkong was dazed as her beguiling eyes opened wide upon those words; even her voice was obviously trembling. Since he, too, might had regressed, she couldn’t help but wonder if he was truly expressing the regret in his heart through his words. Yet, she was in disbelief such remorseful words would come from the emotionless, heartless Gu Changge, after which she started to grow perturbed.

[If that’s real, do I forgive him? No. That would be too easy for him! He thoroughly broke my heart and even mercilessly killed me in the end, so how can I be so weak and allow him to trouble my mind with these sympathetic words? Ah, aren’t I just so weak for him? Wait, no. No! He must still be testing me right now!]

Thinking that, Yue Mingkong suddenly regained her senses as she was drenched in cold sweat. [His mind and methods are as unpredictable and ambiguous as ever. If I were to act odd right now, he’ll surely notice.]

At once, she raised her head and revealed absolute joy in her eyes as though she was deeply moved. “Are you telling the truth, Changge? You won’t give me the cold treatment anymore? That’s great! I knew I would be able to touch your heart someday!”

“When have I ever lied to you? I only tell the truth.” Gu Changge retained the subtle smile on his face. As he was speaking, he dragged Yue Mingkong into his arms as he caressed her hair. He could feel her body stiffen but wasn’t bothered by it. He revealed a skeptical expression on his face, thinking that things were close to his predictions.

Swiftly, Yue Mingkong closed her eyes as she snuggled up in his embrace. Never had she expected the dream she had been heavily craving for to be actualized so fast. Despite knowing it might simply be a facade on Gu Changge’s side, she couldn’t help but wish that time would freeze so that things would stay in that moment forever.

“Mingkong, don’t you have something to tell me?” Suddenly, Gu Changge questioned.

In response, Yue Mingkong wordlessly shook her head. At that moment, she couldn’t afford to be suspicious.

Gu Changge merely smiled and pursued no further. In that instant, he pretty much summed up Yue Mingkong’s origin. Earlier, although she tried to conceal her powers and pretended to behave like her previous self, she wasn’t able to conceal her might and aura.

There were also a few other flaws. For instance, when he asked her what was different about him, she obviously panicked for a moment. Fortunately, Gu Changge’s Primordial Spirits were strong enough to capture the moment.

[Isn’t she just so naive? To play pretend before me?] However, some things still confused him. [Why did my fiancée, who has regressed from the future, stand against me and become my enemy? Did I abandon her or betray her? Or was it something else?]

Baffled, he didn’t expect himself to be this psychopathic. Besides, he was clueless about what Yue Mingkong had gone through, but even if he asked, she wouldn’t never answer her. After all, it involved her greatest secret.

Moreover, since she returned from the future, it was inevitable that she knew about his methods, so she would definitely be cautious toward him, reluctant to believe his words so easily, and she might even know about the fact that he was the Successor of Demonic Arts.

Nonetheless, Gu Changge was oblivious to the fact that the future that Yue Mingkong experienced was her time with the host of his body. Therefore, he couldn’t determine how he should deal with Yue Mingkong, so he could only pretend as if he wasn’t aware of her regression in order to investigate more about her.

[Regression, huh? What a cheat. Especially in the Beyond, she’s basically omniscient. Is anything even a secret to her? I guess it must have been easy for her to defeat her siblings in Unrivaled Celestial Dynasty and seize the crown.]

“Changge, for how long more do you intend to hold me?” As Yue Mingkong calmed herself down, she questioned with a bashful voice. Nevertheless, she was rather angry, feeling that Gu Changge was entertaining himself at the expense of her vulnerable state. Moreover, she was convinced that Gu Changge, like her, had definitely regressed from the future, so an insincere hug like that was nothing worth to be reminisced about.

“As long as I wish, of course.” Gu Changge smiled. Since he figured out her origin, he grew significantly relieved. Besides, he could tell that everything he had done today was out of her expectation, or she wouldn’t have such surprised reactions. In other words, what she experienced in her previous life was different from what she was now.

As Yue Mingkong was taken aback by his words, her intention to shake him off waned as she eventually gave in to him. Although Gu Changge was her nemesis, he was also her fiancé. Though, she still had to retain her bashful, joyful look as she softly quizzed, “Changge, why are you so nice to me now?” She wished to know how long Gu Changge could maintain his pretense.

“What do you mean by that?”

[A little bit of tenderness is ‘so nice’? How did I treat you back then, then? Did I constantly  scold or beat you?] Gu Changge was slightly dazed thinking that.

However, assuming it was a testing question from Yue Mingkong, he revealed a light smile. “I thought it’s a man’s obligation to treat his fiancée nicely.

Hearing that, Yue Mingkong was left stupefied. Her eyes reddened as despair surged in her heart.

[Fiancée? Have you even treated me as a fiancée back then? You only saw me as a tool that’s disposable after use! You even murdered me on the night of our wedding…]

“What’s wrong, Mingkong? You don’t look so good.” Gu Changge questioned out of surprise.

[She was fine a second ago. Why are her eyes reddening now? Did my words upset her or something?]

All of a sudden, he didn’t know what to say and immediately felt distressed.

“I don’t feel well. I’m sorry. I shall take my leave now.” Saying that, Yue Mingkong shook herself out of Gu Changge’s embrace and left on an Arcane Bridge. In that instant, she knew that no matter how she hid the truth, Gu Changge must have figured out her secrets. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said such words to humiliate her, and she predicted that he would surely rack his brain to come up with ways to deal with her.

Watching as Yue Mingkong speedily left, Gu Changge said nothing more as the smile on his face faded away. The room was filled with dead silence.

Out of nowhere, the System sounded a notification.

<*Ding!* The Fortuitous Lady, Yue Mingkong the regressed queen. Love and hate to the Bones triggered. System Mission unlocked.>

<Mission One, kill the Fortuitous Lady. Rewards: 5,000 Fortuity, 25,000 Fatums, and additional rewards.>

<Mission Two, subdue the Fortuitous Lady. Rewards: 5,000 Fortuity, 25,000 Fatums, and additional rewards.>

[What’s the difference?] Gu Changge asked.

<Based on the selected mission, the System will provide different assistance. The additional rewards are also different,> the System answered.

[Mission Two.] Gu Changge directly replied without hesitating for too long. [Mission One is simply impractical.]

<*Ding!* User selected Mission Two and receives the System’s assistance. Playing the future Yue Mingkong experienced.>

Gu Changge’s vision became blurry before a picture quickly appeared.

It was the interior of a grand palace,  where the flames of red candles swayed while the moon shed its light. A woman in a crown and a royal gown was silently sitting on the red bed. Her face was full of makeup and shyness.

[Is this the night of the wedding?] Gu Changge saw himself entering the room and anxiety filled his heart. He then lifted the red veil.

“Dear…” The woman raised her head. Her eyes were filled with affection that was suddenly replaced by disbelief.

*Splash!*

All of a sudden, blood splatter blurred his vision.
