Chapter 2, Somehow I Got Registered Without Noticing!
by SilavinTranslator: Lizz
I press the button-like thing on the blue forehead band of the goggles.
A ‘wiiiin’ sound plays, followed by a quiet, wind-like hum. Light slowly begins to glow around the goggles, centered on the forehead band.
“Oh, crap, I totally forgot to charge it. Um…”
Since there’s a charger included, I plug it into the glowing goggles. The goggles are super thin and give off a high-tech vibe, but the forehead band feels kind of charming.
<Starting voice guide.>
“Whoa!? It talks!”
<Startup begins in one minute… Please wait as is.>
A girlish voice suddenly echoes through the six-tatami room, and I freeze in surprise. In the lonely room of a guy who barely knows any women, hearing a voice like that is completely unexpected.
Now that I think about it, I tried to change my image after entering college, but it didn’t go well… Ah, how painful my youth is. Just as I’m reminiscing about pointless things, the goggles start to glow pale blue.
<Startup initiated. All programs have been updated. Facial recognition is required.>
“Facial recognition? What am I supposed to do?”
<Please hold the goggles in your hands and face them toward your face.>
“…Like this?”
Doing as instructed, I hold the goggles with both hands and face them toward my face. My reflection appears on the black surface of the goggles.
<Facial recognition complete. Please tell me your full name.>
“Ryuga Kagetora.”
<Registration of Kagetora-sama’s name is successful. From next time, you will be automatically logged in and able to use this product.>
“Oh, nice.”
I place the goggles on the round table for now, and they start making a clattering sound while blinking.
<Next, we need to register Mr. Kagetora’s current status. Please scan your Explorer Card using the scanner on the side of the goggles.>
Doing as instructed, I take out the Explorer Card from my pocket and scan it with the device that looks like a scanner attached to the left side of the goggles.
By the way, the Explorer Card displays all the detailed abilities of an explorer.
You’re not allowed to enter a dungeon without an Explorer Card. It also serves as an ID, and you can make one at any of the many Explorer Guilds in town.
The stats are updated in real time, so you can instantly see a person’s level and other details. These days, it’s an important card that even acts as personal identification.
After a while of machine sounds, the AI voice gives a formal greeting.
<Thank you for purchasing the M77INQ11 goggles with forehead protector. We also appreciate your registration for the monthly subscription plan included with this product. I am Miria, the AI that comes with the subscription plan.>
“Ah, thank you for the polite greeting…”
…Hmm? Something about what she said catches my attention.
The M77-whatever is probably just the product number, but a monthly subscription plan?
I’ve never heard anything about that.
“Wait, hold on. What subscription?”
<The monthly subscription plan is a service that provides various benefits for a payment of 3,000 yen per month.>
“Did I sign up for that?”
<You signed the subscription agreement at the time of purchase.>
Now that I think about it, I did sign something… Oh no, what was that grandma’s deal!?
“Somehow I got signed up without realizing! Um, what about a refund or something…”
<The first month is free as a trial.>
“Free? So that means I can try it out for a month, and if it doesn’t suit me, I can cancel?”
<…Yes.>
Her voice suddenly gets quieter. The delayed response bothers me too, but hey, it’s free, so whatever. My wallet situation is honestly a disaster right now.
If I don’t find a new job soon, there won’t be any money coming in each month, and realistically, I shouldn’t have been buying goggles like this in the first place.
<Now, I will explain how to use this product and the benefits of the subscription. These goggles allow you to receive and share dungeon information in real time. They also provide a high-speed internet connection, making video streaming possible.>
AI Miria begins with a basic introduction to using the goggles. Apparently, if you encounter an enemy that’s already well-known, the goggles can instantly gather information about it.
Video streaming… Well, since I have it, maybe I’ll try it at least once. It’s weird how just talking about this kind of thing gets me in the mood to do it.
The AI explains the basic usage of the goggles and how to do live commentary videos for a while. I sort of get the gist, and I say so.
<Next, I will explain the limited subscription that comes with this product.>
Here it comes – the suspicious subscription I apparently signed up for without knowing!
<With this subscription, you’ll receive my voice guide, monthly login bonuses, missions, and various other benefits. That concludes the explanation.>
“What, that’s it for the explanation?”
<Yes. I’ll provide further guidance as needed, so please don’t worry.>
Not sure how reassuring that is…
Anyway, I’ve got the general idea. Since I’ve already bought it, maybe I’ll explore some dungeons in between my job search and earn a bit of pocket money.
