Applied Immortality – Chapter 51, Merits

Argent Apex, at the back palace of the Immortal Alliance.

Deng Jiaxuan and Marie Curie stood before a primordial golden bridge, staring at the Immortal Institute in the distance.

Chen Jingyun asked, “Well?”

He was only half Unfettered, his spiritual sense unable to reach the Immortal Institute after going through the Primordial Unity Array.

Deng Jiaxuan coughed a few times, and Marie Curie retold what happened at the mess hall.

Marie Curie and Deng Jiaxuan’s focus had been on the Immortal Institute since they picked up Hilbert’s energy signature. The trio was terrified at first. Hilbert was the best mathematician and an expert, standing shoulder to shoulder with Supreme Lord Einstein. Now he came out of his seclusion all due to Chen Jingyun’s ‘negligence,’ making the latter feel guilty.

Soon after, though, they had bigger things to worry about, like Wang Qi’s breakthrough with Hilbert’s help.

The mighty expert didn’t want them to know what went on, however, so he covered it all up.

The meeting stressed how important Wang Qi was, which was why Marie Curie and Deng Jiaxuan agreed to take turns watching Wang Qi while Hilbert observed the changes in the array from the outside.

Chen Jingyun frowned as Marie Curie finished. “Grand Ripple Enigma? Are you positive the kid is using waves, Madam Curie?”

He believed Marie Curie wasn’t knowledgeable of Harmony Coalition’s cultivation method since she came from the Scorching Metal Valley.

Deng Jiaxuan sighed. “Little Chen, don’t always focus on arithmetics alone… Madam’s sight is sharp; those are indeed waves.”

Chen Jingyun gave Deng Jiaxuan a skeptical look, not getting it.

Speaking of, this was a beautiful story of modern cultivation history. Madam Curie’s research into the peculiar metal lifted her to be among the top cultivators. Ernest Rutherford found his path due to her research too. Rutherford used the peculiar metal energy to explore the microcosm. After becoming Unfettered, he took on a disciple, none other than Quantum Grandmaster Bohr. Bohr, alongside his junior brother Sommerfeld, later switched to Elusive Palace, which had the only eminent expert at the time, Quantifier Planck. The two of them, in turn, brought along two exceptional geniuses, Daoist Proscribe Pauli and Daoist Indisputable Heisenberg, strengthening the Elusive Palace. During the theoretical exchange between Elusive Palace and Einstein, the head of the Harmony Coalition, numerous new arts emerged. The event was regarded as a model case of passing on legacies—that of a disciple surpassing his master.

Grand Ripple Enigma happened to be Creation Severer Broglie’s results of that debate. Madam Curie lived through that era, making her aware of the mental art.

Chen Jingyun didn’t let it get to him, sinking in thought: “Is the child’s talent for modern cultivation so horrifying to understand the Grand Ripple Enigma?”

Deng Jiaxuan shook his head. “It makes no sense whatso-, cough~. He’s a monster.”

Wang Qi’s feat of training in the Grand Ripple Enigma was beyond astonishing to the trio. It was no different for a school kid to figure out an explosive compound worth of a Nobel Prize! Every man out there would react with an understandable, “Are you freaking kidding me?”

Marie Curie shook her head. “He may be related to ancient cultivation, but won’t his incredible talent switch him to modern cultivation given time?”

Chen Jingyun spoke at random: “Too few samples, unable to establish a pattern… unexpected individual’s interference…”

Deng Jiaxuan muttered, “Su Hui?”

———

“No, nya! Let go, nya! Don’t touch me there, nya! You mustn’t!”

“Go ahead, squeal. You can scream yourself hoarse, but no one will save you now. By the way, you missed a nya there.”

“That’s not the point, nya! Nya!”

“Behave!”

Wang Qi finally released Mao Zimiao’s fluffy ears.

The catgirl covered her ears, tearing up. “Little Qi, you’re so mean, nya!”

Wang Qi’s mouth twitched. “Mean? Could you have saved yourself from that pickle, oh, A’Zimiao? Do you have any idea what would’ve happened if you struck?”

“But that guy was picking on Yang Xi, and I couldn’t just stand by, nya!”

“You’re not supposed to attack, even if he was ‘rocking’ that Happy Lamb!”

“Little Qi, you always give others the weirdest nicknames, nya…”(Tamon: Happy Lamb or Xi Yang, a play on words for the sheep demon’s name.)

“Nothing beats bro Dao’s weirdness in this world.”

“Little Qi, you’re saying gibberish again.” Mao Zimiao held her ears and glared at Wang Qi with caution, “Although you’ve always been good to me.”

Wang Qi raised his head and said, “So you finally see my good side! Be sure to let me get a feel of them ears whenever I want to. Then…”

“No!”

Wang Qi didn’t let the rejection get to him. “Anyway, have you learned not to use magical arts against Doberman and any other clan disciples? You barely know math, lack theory, and have a poor foundation. You can’t afford to lose points, got it?”

“Got it, nya.”

Wang Qi then walked with confidence towards the classroom, hearing from behind, “Little Qi is such a good person, nya.”

[Tch, that’s what all that effort got me, being friend-zoned?]

Wang Qi cussed.

The morning theory class flew by, and Wang Qi checked his schedule. All the classes Wang Qi wanted weren’t available until June, including the Spiritual Energy Essence Theory Hilbert recommended.

After lunch, Wang Qi didn’t mess around with Mao Zimiao or play cards with Su Junyu. He went straight to the library instead.

The ground floor had quite the crowd, mostly filled with novels, legends, and random topics such as Divine Province’s dramas for the disciples’ perusal in their leisure time. Freshmen had limits on what books to borrow, a mere single book every two weeks. Wang Qi didn’t linger, going higher.

The first floor held unimportant ancient arts like mental arts, magical arts, and refining plans. They were only here to give inspiration, as focusing on any of them would result in wasted time and a wasted future. The floor had teaching material as well.

The second floor was all about basic modern cultivation theories. Since he’d been unfamiliar with Divine Province’s terminology as well as arithmetic symbols, this was the first place he checked out.

Many of the people on this floor were Foundation Establishment assistant teachers. The few Foundation Establishment disciples glanced over curiously at the freshman’s arrival. Wang Qi ignored them as he looked for the titles Hilbert recommended.

As modern cultivation’s insight into Dao deepened, more and more seniors published their works. It led to an increase in the number of books on the immortal path; library science also showed signs of coming into development. The books Hilbert recommended even included the corresponding symbols for their location. Wang Qi found them in no time at all.

He then frowned.

He needed merits for these books.
