Chen Changan felt conflicted as he finished reading the letter.

The name Ming He appeared in the letter, and was probably his Master’s ‘good friend’. It was written that the old coot and Ming He had a fling once, and his heartfelt words were quite touching. However, the main content was related to Chen Changan.

That old coot left his disciple behind so he could look after Eternity Coven, while also giving him this letter to deliver to his good friend, Ming He.

“That old coot, you’ve been holding out on me, saying you’ve always been a loner.” Chen Changan muttered.

Ling Bao’er asked, “Master, what does it say? Why do you kept sighing and mumbling?”

Chen Changan bopped her head. “It’s not for children. Written on this paper is your Grandmaster’s affair.”

Ling Bao’er lit up, “Wow, I have a Grandmaster? Master, where is he?”

Chen Changan rolled his eyes. “He might be dead for all we know.”

“Ah!”

Chen Changan glared, “What ‘ah’? Go cultivate. You’re to reach the 5th layer of Golden Core in two days or no food for three days!”

Ling Bao’er whined, “Master, I don’t want to starve.”

“Then get to work.”

Ling Bao’er felt two familiar signatures coming over to Soaring Immortal Mountain. She blinked for a moment and dashed right into the temple to hide.

“Master, dad’s here! You can never tell him I’m here.” She shouted out of the temple.

“What was that?” Chen Changan didn’t hear her clearly.

He didn’t get a reply. “Cheeky girl.”

Chen Changan shook his head.

Two lights trailed the skies near Soaring Immortal Mountain, hiding two figures within. One of them belonged to a refined middle-aged man, with features similar to Ling Bao’er, her father Ling Qingshan. The other was an old man, the Grand Elder Ling Hai of the Nine Swords Sect, to be exact.

He had white hair, thin, yet with an immortal air about him. The most obvious trait was the strong aura he released, that of a Nascent Soul.

“Soaring Immortal Mountain is just up ahead. The broken temple Qiu Qiantu mentioned is at the top.” Ling Hai said.

Ling Qingshan’s eyes were deep, “I can’t sense Bao’er. Qiu Qiantu said the Immortal Treasure is with her. That can’t be right.”

“The Immortal Treasure has grave implications. We can’t have it involve the Nine Swords Sect as well. We must find Bao’er. Let’s go search the ruined temple for any signs.”

Ling Hai and Ling Qingshan landed before the Immortal Temple.

Ling Bao’er was shaking in worry inside. “What’s dad doing here? He must’ve come to take me away, but I want to stay with Master.”

Ling Bao’er sensed the two’s auras landing. She held her breath and pulled back her aura as she peeked outside.

Chen Changan lay in his chair, enjoying the glorious sun while humming a tune like the two didn’t exist.

“Is he the mystery youth Qiu Qiantu talked about?” Ling Qingshan’s eyes were cold.

Ling Hai looked at the herb garden and the Immortal Tree and he felt like he entered paradise.

Ling Hai gasped, “Qingshan, this place is incredible.”

“The youth has no cultivation. He couldn’t have killed Evil Dragon Den’s group. It looks like Qiu Qiantu wasn’t completely honest with us.”

“Let’s assess things first.”

Ling Hai and Ling Qingshan entered Chen Changan’s Absolute Domain. Chen Changan’s humming stopped the moment they did, noticing their intrusion.

He stretched and gave the two a curious look. “Have you come to steal the Immortal Treasure? Oh, you look somewhat similar to my disciple, Bao’er.”

Ling Qingshan huffed, “I’m her father.”

Ling Bao’er held her face inside the temple. [Master, I told you not to tell dad I’m here, but you just told him I’m your disciple.]

“Oh, my disciple’s father.” Chen Changan sighed.

“Whoever you are, bring out my daughter, or else!” Ling Qingshan threatened.

He didn’t sense Ling Bao’er around but he believed she was here.

Ling Hai was scrutinizing Chen Changan.  [He looks the picture of average. Qiu Qiantu was lying through his teeth.]

Chen Changan glanced at Ling Qingshan. “Why so fierce? No wonder she’d hide knowing you came.”

Ling Qingshan threatened again, “Humph, if I find out you touched one hair on my daughter, I’ll turn you inside out!”

In the Immortal Temple, Ling Bao’er held her face in shame. [Daddy, you’re a peak Golden Core expert. Master even slapped a Nascent Soul to his death. Are you trying to get yourself killed? Don’t test Master or you’ll die.]

Chen Changan shrugged with a smile, “I’ve done way more than that, so what are you gonna do about it?”

“Bastard…” Ling Qingshan exploded in rage and power.

Ling Bao’er knew things were going from bad to worse and her dad might end up dying from her master’s slap.

“Dad, cut it out! Master didn’t do anything to me.” Ling Bao’er pouted while running out of the temple behind Chen Changan.

Ling Hai was stunned. He had scanned the Immortal Temple but found no trace of Ling Bao’er. He thought she wasn’t there, yet it turned out she hid from his senses.

[Is there actually a Nascent Soul like me inside?]

“Bao’er, you are to return with me to Nine Swords Sect!” Ling Qingshan relaxed at seeing his daughter and shouted.

Ling Bao’er hid behind Chen Changan, having always been scared of her strict father. “Master, I want to stay with you.”

Chen Changan smiled and rubbed her head. “No worries. You’re my disciple. No one can take you away from me.”

“Right.” Ling Bao’er perked up.

Ling Qingshan gave a hard stare as they saw the two so close. He was her father, but Ling Bao’er never got so close with him ever. Jealousy reared its ugly head.

“Bao’er, I’m your father!”

“Haiz, and I’m Bao’er’s caring Master.”
