Chapter 5, You’ve Completed Many Special Missions
by SilavinTranslator: Lizz
Now that you mention it, the appearance of dungeons all over the world brings about major changes in humans.
One particularly noticeable change is the concept of levels.
Basically, it’s the kind of thing you see a lot in RPGs. And it turns out humans also have RPG-like statuses.
These statuses are displayed on explorer cards. The cards are made using special magical tools created by the Guild, and only they can quantify actual ability.
However, to make sure the latest level and status appear on the explorer card, you need to pass the card through a certain machine at the Guild.
“So I guess I’ve reached level 5. Maybe I’ll check after I leave the dungeon.”
<It is possible to confirm the latest status right now.>
“Huh? But don’t I need to go to the Guild for that?”
<It can be displayed via this subscription service instead of through the explorer card, but. Also, the status can be shown only to Kagetora-sama or shared publicly with stream viewers.>
“Huh!? I can see it? Seriously?”
Even that kind of feature is included? Subscriptions are amazing. A quick glance at the view count shows the person from earlier is already gone, and now the number of viewers is zero.
“Well, nobody’s watching, but could you just show it only to me? My status is way too low and kinda embarrassing.”
<Understood. Now displaying the status.>
After AI Miria’s voice, a yellow window floats up on the left side of the screen.
“Whoa!”
Looks like I really can see my status.

======
Yeah, I’m super weak.
And I haven’t improved much either. Well, with stats like this, it’s no wonder people give up on me.
As I’m reflecting seriously, I hear Miria’s voice again.
<You have completed many special missions.>
“Hm? Special missions?”
Now that I think of it, there was something mentioned about missions before.
<Special missions are available only through this subscription. By completing them, you can receive various rewards.>
“Oh, really? So that’s a thing too. By the way, how do I check these missions?”
<I will now show you the mission screen.>
Then, instead of appearing in the goggles, a mysterious window suddenly pops up in the dungeon space!
This design feels super futuristic. I’m getting kind of excited.
“Awesome.”
The window displays the following:
======
Special Missions
・Register an Explorer Card: clear
・Receive the first login bonus: clear
・Challenge a dungeon for the first time: clear
・Defeat a slime for the first time: clear
・Defeat a monster grasshopper for the first time: clear
・Defeat one monster: clear
・Defeat two monsters: clear
・Defeat three monsters: clear
・Clear the upper level of the dungeon:
======
Looks like I’ve managed to complete quite a few things.
But still, just receiving the login bonus counts as a completion? That feels pretty generous. The rewards are probably not all that great, huh?
By the way, completed Special Missions are displayed at the top.
<If you want to check other missions, you can move the screen with your finger to view them.>
“Huh? You can touch this? That’s high-tech.”
When I try touching the window floating in the air with my finger, it looks like I can see the other missions below too.
As I swipe down the screen like I’m casually flicking through my phone, missions just keep popping up, like they might go on forever.
<The rewards can be claimed all at once from the button on the right side of the screen.>
“Oh, this thing… Whoa!?”
Just as I’m saying that, a bunch of little green monsters come bouncing in from the back. Three goblins.
<Three goblins. Stay calm and take them down one at a time.>
“Y-yeah!”
That said, for someone not used to it, encountering three monsters solo is quite a high hurdle.
The goblins hop side to side and backward in the narrow corridor, waiting for the right moment to attack all at once.
I cross swords with the goblin at the front for the time being. As the sound of club and sword clashing rings out, the remaining two surround me.
This is bad. This feels like one of those get-jumped situations. Just as I think that, a goblin circles behind and swings its sword, slashing my back through the leather armor.
“Ow!”
I shout unintentionally, shove the goblin in front of me with all my strength, and swing my sword wildly around. They dodge quickly, but I run forward to break out of the encirclement.
“Gii!”
“Gi gi gi gi!”
“Gya gya”
For a short while after that, it turns into a game of tag with the goblins. Luckily, I seem to be faster than they are, and I take the lead in this little race by a wide margin. Not the time to be thinking ‘Nailed it!’ like an idiot though.
Once there’s some distance between us, I glance back, then dash straight toward the goblins, who are now coming at me in a scattered formation.
I lunge at the goblin with the club and bring my sword down on it.
“Gyaaah!?”
Maybe thrown off by the sudden change in direction, the club-wielding goblin fails to dodge or block the attack, and ends up getting sliced in two.
“Alright, next!”
“Gohhaaa!”
Next up is the sword-wielding goblin, and we clash blades. I feel a bit rushed; if I don’t finish this one quickly, the goblin in the very back is going to join the fight.
“Guh!”
As our swords clash several times, something grazes my stomach. I thought the goblin in the rear wasn’t doing anything, but turns out it fires an arrow at me.
“Damn!”
Crafty little–! I kick the sword goblin in the stomach. As it flinches, I swing my blade diagonally, and it cries out and collapses.
“Giiyaaahh!?”
“Ow ow ow!?”
But the last goblin keeps aiming at me with its bow, and this time the arrow lightly hits my shoulder. Thankfully, it doesn’t pierce through, but the thing immediately nocks another arrow and gets ready to fire again.
At this moment, I really want to close the distance, but charging in head-on doesn’t seem like it’ll go well.
Out of shape from my poor lifestyle, I’m already out of breath. I start thinking this might be a bit much when–
<Recovery cards also restore stamina.>
–says AI Miria, offering a helpful tip.
“Oh, right!”
I quickly throw the card, and a white bird appears, flying around me as a green glow rains down across my body.
The next moment, my wounds are completely healed and my breathing is back to normal. Magic is seriously convenient!
To finish off the last goblin, I shift into a defensive stance and bait out its attack. Just as expected, it fires an arrow, and I dodge sideways in an instant.
Before it can ready the next shot, I sprint forward. As I close the gap, the goblin’s eyes go wide in surprise.
“Uoooooo!”
“Gi… Gyaaahhhh!?”
I bring my sword down with all my might, striking from above, and the final goblin collapses with a scream.
