Wisps of spiritual mist enveloped Mu Yan’s silhouette.

She sat cross-legged on the boulder with her five senses in tune with the world. Using the technique Zhuo Wu had given her, she calmly focused on her cultivation.

Her face looked even more radiant and flawless. She looked like she had been carved out of jade.

Even though she knew the Cultivation Technique was very likely to be problematic, she dared not go against Zhuo Wu’s orders. She had to do as told and cultivate.

Around that lake hidden by the palaces, many of the experts that Zhuo Wu left behind were keeping an eye on Mu Yan.

While she was absorbed in her cultivation, Wang He’s silhouette merged in the distance beside the ancient trees with lush canopies.

Though he looked young, he was tens of thousands of years old.

Right now, he was dressed in an old and plain Daoist robe. He had a purple star crown on his head and a duster in his hand. All in all, there was a semblance of an ethereal air to him.

When Wang He saw the captivating beauty who was cultivating with her eyes closed, his eyes flashed with admiration. But soon, it was replaced with a smile.

“I’ve finally found you, the future Sovereign Empress.” With a smile, he walked towards her without bothering to hide himself.

The moment Wang He appeared, Mu Yan, who was engrossed in cultivation, noticed his presence. She opened her eyes and looked over. After freezing momentarily, she grew wary.

[She detected me so quickly. As expected of the future Sovereign Empress. Even though she hasn’t truly risen yet, she is already proving how remarkable she is.] Wang He was startled too. He did not expect Mu Yan to have shockingly keen senses. After all, he had used a Secret Technique to conceal his aura.

None of the experts who were guarding the place noticed his presence. He had already dealt with them.

Still, the more extraordinary Mu Yan was, the wider his smile.

“Such a strong resemblance…” Wang He approached Mu Yan, and before she could speak, he exclaimed with a soft sigh as if he were lamenting something.

Mu Yan frowned. Her eyes flickered doubtfully.

[Who’s this strange Daoist? Why did he suddenly appear in the place where I’m being held? Why did he make such a comment? Did Zhuo Wu’s subordinates not notice him? Did he get rid of them, or could they not even notice him?]

“Who are you? Why are you here?” Mu Yan did not let her guard down. After silently processing the situation, she calmly questioned him.

Wang He smiled faintly and bowed before saying, “Greetings. I am Scavenger.”

Scavenger was the nickname he used when he roamed the Mortal Lands before rising to his current heights.

“Scavenger?” Mu Yan felt that the peculiar name was a little strange, though she could not describe how or why.

Furthermore, what gave him the audacity to barge into this place? Did he not know this was Zhuo Wu’s territory?

“Why have you come here? If you entered by mistake, I advise you to leave before someone else notices you, lest you get into trouble.” Mu Yan cautioned as she shook her head.

She had always been a kind Soul, so she gave him a word of advice as well.

After all, if this strange Daoist had entered this place by accident, the consequences would be terrible if Zhuo Wu found out about it.

Upon hearing that, Wang He chuckled and said, “I came here for you.”

Mu Yan was startled. [For me? Did that Clan send him?]

Still, she was no fool. Despite her expression remaining largely uncharged, she became even warier.

“It seems like you don’t believe me. During my travels, I once befriended someone named Mu Xingkong. We became very good friends. But, for certain reasons, I had to leave to a distant universe. When I returned, I learnt of the tragic news that my dear friend, Mu Xingkong, had already passed away.”

“Thankfully, I am well-versed in the art of divination. I can discern the Yin and the Yang, as well as the five elements of the world. I can see the past and the future. After divining the situation, I found that Mu Xingkong has a living descendant… That’s why I came in search and found you.”

Wang He’s forlorn expression made it seem like he was grieving the loss of his good friend.

As he spoke, he slowly shared details of how he and Mu Xingkong had met.

Even those who were unfamiliar with the situation would believe him and think everything he described did indeed occur.

He claimed that they had once hunted an ancient Star Beast in some forbidden galaxy and nearly lost their lives…

Wang He made it all sound so believable. It was hard for others to determine the veracity of his words.

Naturally, when he first founded the Scavenger Sect, he used this ability to trick many of the disciples and Elders into joining him. After all, the Scavenger Tome could look into a being’s life record.

By enhancing the knowledge with a few choice words as he relayed it, Wang He was easily able to make himself seem like a mysterious being who knew much about the past and the future.

When Mu Yan heard the name Wang He mentioned, she looked visibly startled.

Mu Xingkong was her Father’s name. Apart from her, barely anyone knew of this name.

Though Mu Yan did not have many memories of her Father, she had never heard him say he had a good friend, let alone one who was such a strange Daoist.

And yet, what Wang He spoke of seemed to have truly happened.

Furthermore, when they met earlier, he had said that she shared a strong resemblance to someone.

Because of these things, Mu Yan’s suspicions eased a bit. Nevertheless, she did not fully trust Wang He because she thought that if her Father did have such a strong friendship with someone, he would not have kept it from her unless there were extenuating circumstances.

“I don’t remember much about my Father. I didn’t know he had a friend like you.” Mu Yan glanced at Wang He before shaking her head. [But, if what the Daoist said was true, would he be able to help me escape from ny perilous predicament? It seemed unlikely that he had come here just to lie to me. But, was I even worth the effort?]

[Hang on. I still have the Eternal Divine Furnace.]

Before Mu Yan’s Mother died, she entrusted Mu Yan with a task. She told Mu Yan to retrieve the Artifact from somewhere once Mu Yan left the Divine Eternal Clan.

She also told Mu Yan to keep the Eternal Divine Furnace safe, and that she could not tell anyone else about it or divulge any information about it.

[If the Daoist before me is indeed as all-knowing as he said he is. Could it be that he deduced I had the Eternal Divine Furnace with me?] Upon thinking about this, Mu Yan’s worries heightened, and she grew more alert.

Wang He did not count on his words being enough to dispel Mu Yan’s doubts. After all, she was the future Sovereign Empress.

Despite her young age, she exceeded ordinary beings in terms of shrewdness.

“I know you don’t trust my words, but it’s fine. I came here just to tell you that you need not worry too much. I will try my best to help you escape your perilous situation. However, Elder Zhuo Wu is indeed a terrifyingly powerful being. For the time being, I cannot stand against her, so I can’t take you away. Furthermore, there’s also the Zhuo Clan…”

“But since you’re the descendant of my friend, I will try my best to find a way to get you out of here,” Wang He said with a smile.

Before Mu Yan could respond, his figure vanished.

Initially, Wang He wanted to say a few things about Mu Yan’s experiences to gain her trust.

However, he detected the approach of a terrifying aura. Figuring that Zhuo Wu had returned, he chose not to stick around.

Wang He believed what he had shared thus far was enough to ease some of Mu Yan’s suspicions and make her waver.

Plus, there was still time. He was not in a rush.

When Wang He’s figure disappeared, Mu Yan froze briefly before snapping out of it.

[Could he be telling the truth? If he is, does that make him a Family friend of some kind?] She shook her head and drove these thoughts out of her mind.

Wang He had not asked her about her situation. Instead, he immediately said he would find a way to save her from her difficult situation. As a result of that, Mu Yan, who felt nothing but despair and hopelessness over the present situation, seemed to have found a sliver of hope.

Naturally, she hoped that Wang He was telling the truth.

Soon after Wang He left, a streak of golden light descended from the sky and turned into Zhuo Wu.

“Are you slacking off again? Was the earlier suffering not enough?” Zhuo Wu glanced indifferently at Mu Yan.

When she saw Mu Yan staring off into the distance instead of focusing on her cultivation, she began to look a little furious.

If Mu Yan did not hone her cultivation, based on her current strength, she would not be able to withstand Zhuo Wu’s mighty Spiritual Energy, let alone be her vessel.

Mu Yan came out of her reverie and pursed her lips. In a display of nonchalance, she stared at Zhuo Wu without saying anything.

“Forget it. It is my disciple initiation ceremony today, so I’ll let you off the hook just this once. You better not embarrass me in front of the guests,” Zhuo Wu huffed.

Her anger soon dissipated from her expression, and with a flick of her sleeve, she disappeared, taking Mu Yan along with her.

Over at the ceremony, musical instruments sung in harmony with each other.

Many of the guests were partaking in wine as they chatted among themselves in the various pavilions. Immortal Mist curled across the lotus-filled lake, making it seem like the home of a deity.

Many figures were also chatting among the mountains and ancient forests.

In the distant meadows, a number of the younger generation were engaged in a lively discussion and friendly competition.

Tens of thousands of cultivators filled the territory, and they were all well-known figures in the Immortal Spirit Civilisation.

“Looking at the time, Elder Zhuo Wu should be coming over soon…”

Hun Tianya, an Elder, said with a smile, “She had to deal with a few things earlier, but she should be done now.”

Evidently, he maintained a fairly cordial relationship with Zhuo Wu in private, so that was why he was aware of these details.

Upon hearing this, the guests set down their cups and looked into the distance.

*Swoosh* A streak of golden light stretched across the sky and swiftly landed. The figure was indeed Zhuo Wu.

“Today is my disciple initiation ceremony. I am honoured and grateful that you have all travelled a great distance to join me here today, my friends.”

She was draped in a dark golden cape. Every move she made seemed to influence the world. The Principles around her flowed naturally. It was a sign of unfathomably profound cultivation.

As Zhuo Wu spoke, she smiled and raised her glass to toast her guests.

The guests also raised their glasses and joined her. In terms of strength and social standing, few present could compare to her.

However, most eyes were on the figure behind Zhuo Wu.

It was a gorgeous woman in a white dress paired with a white outer robe. Her hair was tied up, and her expression was indifferent. Many of the younger generations were in awe of her beauty.

“As expected of Elder Zhuo Wu’s disciple. Such beauty is hard to find.”

Even some of the older ones could not resist exclaiming and making comments about her.

“Considering her age and her cultivation, she is comparable to all the young prodigies…”

“One can imagine just how accomplished Elder Zhuo Wu’s disciple would be in the future.”

More and more beings began to exclaim and share their praises.

Since Zhuo Wu was presenting her disciple to the public by holding a disciple initiation ceremony, it meant that she had high regard for the latter.

In the distance, Wang He stared at Mu Yan, who was the centre of attention, and secretly smiled to himself. He felt that everything was progressing as he expected and planned.

    “How could this be…”

However, among those from the Divine Eternal Clan, Li Yang, the Eternal Divine Son, was shocked. He stared at Mu Yan in disbelief, but soon, his expression turned grim.

The other Elders from the Divine Eternal Clan also wore unpleasant expressions. Clearly, they did not expect Mu Yan to appear here.

Furthermore, she had become the disciple of Zhuo Wu, an Elder of the Zhuo Clan.

She was the disgrace of the Divine Eternal Clan and had been kicked out by them.

“It’s indeed a rather amusing situation.” Luo Xiangjun had a faint smirk on her face. She did not expect Li Yang and the others to have such a strong reaction.

Even though she had never met Mu Yan before, she could deduce who the latter was.

Naturally, Mu Yan was also dumbstruck, but soon, she looked joyous.

“Yang…” She did not expect to run into her Little Brother here.

After getting driven out of the Divine Eternal Clan, she was worried about his safety. Though she wanted to secretly visit him, she failed to find a way to do so.

Later on, she found out that Li Yang had become the Divine Son of the Divine Eternal Clan. Only then did she relax.

She had been rather young when her Mother got pregnant with Li Yang.

Still, she cared a lot about her Half-Brother, who had a different Father.

Plus, she knew she was the reason why Li Yang was unfavoured by his Father. All along, she felt bad about that and wanted to make it up to him.

Though, at the time, she and her Mother did not have a good life with the Divine Eternal Clan. They lived in a remote and desolate courtyard.

Her Mother had been injured in the past, and because of that, she lost nearly all of her cultivation. Whenever the weather was cold, her Mother would tremble uncontrollably, but they did not even have a furnace to keep them warm.

During that time, Mu Yan would volunteer to help the servants in exchange for some coal for the winter.

Apart from the servants who would mock her and her Mother, the others were kind and would give her some coal.

That was how she and her Mother survived through the harsh winters.

However, Li Yang despised her. Due to that, he rarely visited their Mother on his own accord.
