Everlasting Jade Lake.
Faced with the countless undead streaming in, Hei and Ah’Miao gave their all, and more, to hold on but was too much for the two Demons to handle.
This sudden onslaught was beyond what they thought they’d find, or meet. It was like the undead went mad.
In such a dire situation, not even an Immortal Slayer would fare much better, hopeless like these two, mere Nascent Soul and Spirit Severing cultivators.
It didn’t take long for Hei and Ah’Miao to tire and suffer wounds.
Hei urged Ah’Miao to enter Everlasting City. “Ah’Miao, run!”
“What about you?”
“I’ll be fine. I’ll only hold them off.”
Hei was grave as he unleashed endless attacks upon the relentless undead, but as Ah’Miao entered the city, the undead that followed her turned to dust.
Even so, the undead were intrepid, still charging in after her, despite being disintegrated.
As for Hei, who had yet to enter Everlasting City, was swamped.
He howled in fury and disgruntlement.
“Flood Dragon Hei!” Ah’Miao cried out with red eyes, knowing he would die like this.
She charged out of Everlasting City, wanting to save Hei.
“Stay back!” Hei roared, giving his all to keep Ah’Miao from leaving Everlasting City.
He was bitter on the inside, never imagining this was how he’d meet his end, but he had no other choice.
He should’ve just stayed home and never come here with Ah’Miao.
He should’ve remained cooped up in Soaring Immortal Mountain.
Ah’Miao teared up, pushed back by Hei’s power and kept within the Everlasting City’s boundary. She was forced to watch with tears in her eyes as Hei was getting nearer and nearer to death.
Regret consumed her, for asking Hei to come with her.
If she hadn’t call for him, Hei would’ve lived. It was all her fault.
Hei died in the end, his body void of any vitality.
The undead finished off one of their quarry and turned their attention to Ah’Miao. They went berserk as they tried to reach her.
Ah’Miao just stood there, numb, staring as the incoming ravenous undead wanted to tear her limb from limb.
But no matter how much they tried, or how many came, all turned to ash the minute they crossed into Everlasting City.
The endless sea of undead was reduced to dust in a matter of moments, but Ah’Miao didn’t care, too heartbroken to pay it any mind.
“Flood Dragon Hei, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”
She sniffed, her ears drooping as she cried.
Suddenly, Hei’s corpse burst with a blinding golden aura. His wounds closed, his power surged, and his heart thumped stronger than ever.
Ah’Miao gawked. [A corpse twitching?]
Hei was reborn!
He was perplexed. “Didn’t I die?”
Checking himself over, he found himself in top shape and brimming with power. It was incredible!
“What the hell?!” Hei was stumped.
Looking around, the undead were also gone. He only saw a tearful Ah’Miao inside the Everlasting City.
Hei went to her. “Ah’Miao, are you alright?”
“H-Hei, didn’t you die?” Ah’Miao looked on just as baffled.
Hei laughed, putting on a zealous look. “Young Master did say he placed something called the Life and Death Talisman on me before leaving, that it would save my life. That must’ve been it for sure!”
“That’s no life saver, but resurrection. I can’t believe Senior can do such a thing!” Ah’Miao cheered up.
She rejoiced and was thrilled Hei was alive. The guilt of having killed Hei was eating up inside her.
“Hei, it’s good that you’re alive. When we get back to Myriad Mountains, I’ll treat you with some fish.”
“Ha-ha, I’ll have ten!”
“Sure, no problem. You can have them all.”
Hei frowned. “Ah’Miao, do you know why the undead charged us out of nowhere?”
Ah’Miao shook her head. “No, it’s like they went mad, like we have something that they had to have.”
Hei agreed. “You’re right, Ah’Miao. I feel the same. But what could we have that they’d want so much?”
“I don’t know.”
This never happened the last time she came to Everlasting City.
If it were to happen, she wouldn’t have even entered the tomb and died before even reaching Everlasting City.
“Ah’Miao, we can’t tarry. The sooner we find the tomb, the sooner we leave.”
Hei grew solemn, doubly cautious after dying once.
