There were various complications, but I went back to my room to get changed, and when I returned to the dining room, lunch had already been prepared.
From what I heard, they had a girls’ night last night and this morning, so this was a combined breakfast and lunch, and they were apparently finishing up the preparations by the time I got home. Gray and the others were helping out, but since Lady Violet was waiting on the finishing touch, everybody except her gathered to greet me.
Actually, were they okay with Silva and Gray taking part in the supposed girls’ night? Besides, when I think of a girls’ night, all I can think of is a coworker from my past life drinking while complaining, and then throwing up a few hours later… I wonder if everything went well.
“Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law are here?”
“Yes, they’re coming to say hello and do other things. However, they also need to make preparations, so they will be visiting in the afternoon.”
Anyway, I relayed the information about my Siblings’ visit while we were all eating (Mrs. Vert went home. What did she even come here for?).
Lady Violet was a little surprised, but when I told her the details… without the part where remembering the pervert made me suffer, and told her that they didn’t know I got married and wanted to see their Younger Brother’s Wife, she seemed apologetic about her parental Ducal Family causing trouble.
Just in case I told her what kind of people Gen and Sumi were, and that we were on friendly terms.
“Lord Gen and Lady Sumi are kind people. They treated me very kindly when I became Lord Clo’s Adopted Son.”
After Gray followed up my words, Lady Violet looked somewhat relieved.
When I asked her what was wrong,
“Well, I’m relieved that you have Siblings you’re close with.”
“After all, they didn’t even try to talk to you at the academy the other day.”
“That’s partly true, but you had allies in your Family. I’m glad that your Siblings love you enough to come see you because they were worried about you.”
She said with a smile.
Thank god, that smile was enough to make up for what I was missing during the period of the Lords’ conference (around two days).
Still, she’s glad I have allies in my family… huh? Lady Violet doesn’t talk much about her Parents and Siblings, but they definitely don’t get along. With the circumstances being what they are, people on her side in the Valentine Family are… at its worst. Her relationship with her Parents and her Older Brother definitely worsened due to the duel.
Meanwhile, I was never close to my Parents and the Eldest Brother to start with either.
“Hmm, maybe it would be better if we weren’t here then.”
“I’m sorry, even though you came all the way here.”
“Ahaha, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it and show off your lovey-doveyness to your Husband’s Siblings!.”
“O-okay. We’ll do that…?
In between eating, Ms. Kriemhild looked towards me and gave me a thumbs up. Leaving aside the idea of showing off how lovey-dovey we are, we have to show how close we are.
But how do we go about doing it? Whenever Lady Violet interacts with anybody that’s not the source of her trauma, she keeps her emotions suppressed. Showing off anything might be difficult… Well, I feel like she emotes quite a lot when dealing with perverts, but Gen and Sumi aren’t as perverted as Shiki residents.
“While you’re meeting, we’ll try to have Silva mingle with people of Shiki.”
“Alright, I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of work, but good luck.”
“… Hey, why would I need “good luck” if I’m just going to be talking with people? Are you making fun of—”
“Violet is worried about you, Silva. You shouldn’t doubt her. Let’s do our best.”
“Y-you too, Ms. Mary?! Hey, really, why?”
Ms. Kriemhild explained their plans for the day and Ms. Mary soothed Silva.
It’s a bit odd that I can only say ‘good luck; as the Territory Lord, but it really is troubling how that’s the only thing we can say.
Anyway, her outfit might be provocative for Silva, but it’s probably better if they start with Cyan, who’s more sensible.
“Well then, let’s clean up.”
“Kriemhild, we’ll clean up ourselves so you just leave it in lukewarm water.”
Ms. Kriemhild, who had finished her food faster than everybody else, expressed her gratitude for the meal and gathered up her plates to wash them. She was probably trying to leave the mansion as quickly as possible so we could get ready. She’s as thoughtful as ever.
“But I thought you had to get ready..”
“There’s still enough time to tidy up, so don’t worry about it.”
“Hmm… No, I’ll wash them. You need to get as much done as possible. You need to put on makeup, dress up and get ready to show your Sister and Brother in laws that you’re a wonderful bride.”
“I’m sure they would still think the same way about the usual Lady Violet, so it will be fine.”
“Yeah, that’s true!”
I’m not worried about that at all. As it stands now, she’s too good to be my Wife. I have no intention of letting her go.
“Uh… I’m thankful for your sentiments, but even I want to dress up a little if I’m meeting my Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law…”
“Oh, I see. I’m sorry, I didn’t think about that.”
“… Still, thanks.”
“Yes, you’re welcome?”
Hm, why did she thank me?
Still, she thanked me, so I’ll just accept it obediently. Plus, she does need to get ready. Her outfit itself is appropriate for receiving guests, but there are probably some other things she has to offer.
Besides, knowing my Older Siblings, they might get impatient and come over too early.
“…She’s really changed.”
“Did you say something, Silva?”
“No, it’s nothing. I was just wondering where Gray had gone?”
“Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen him for a while.”
I suddenly overheard this conversation and looked around, only to realize that Gray had suddenly gone somewhere. That’s weird, when did he leave?
Did he leave to make after-meal tea or coffee? … Just as I had this thought, I heard the footsteps of somebody getting close.
Judging from the sound, there were multiple people.
“— May we intrude?”
I felt like I heard a voice that I knew since I was a child, and at the same time as I wondered why I was hearing that voice, I could somehow predict what would happen after this and got a little worried about what to do.
After worrying about it for a bit, I gave up and decided to let things take their course.
“… Who could it be?”
Ms. Kriemhild raised a question about the sudden voice.
Lady Violet was wary of the unfamiliar voice, but when I quietly told her that it was okay, she looked doubtful, and we watched the situation unfold together.
Then the door to the dining room was opened and in came–
“Nice to meet you, Lady Violet. I am Gen— ah.”
“I am Sumi— oh, you had prior guests. My apologies.”
Yes, it was Gen and Sumi, who had changed into new clothes. They had been trying pointlessly to appear cool, but they seemed frozen at the unexpected sight.
There was an awkward pause, and while Kriemhild and the others were searching for the right words to say, I decided to introduce them.
“Yes, in other words, Lady Violet, these are Gen Heartfield and Sumi Clover, who got ‘too excited and came early, and then tried to appear dignified by appearing suddenly to gauge our reaction and to talk less in an attempt of seeming composed, but were confused by the sudden prior guests”. These are the kind of Older Siblings I have, but I hope you will treat them well.”
“”Stop saying things like that!””
But it’s the truth so it can’t be helped. I’m sure this is the result of them getting excited about their new clothes and thinking they could make the cool impression they wanted.
“Nice to meet you, Lord Gen, Lady Sumi. I am Violet, the Wife of Clo Heartfield. I apologize for the delay in reporting our marriage and introduction of myself. I hope we continue to have a long-lasting relationship as Family.”
“”Ah, yes, nice to meet you…””
The difference between them and Lady Violet, whose manners and behavior were overflowing with elegance even in everyday clothes, was truly like heaven and earth…
…Yeah, I love how cool Lady Violet is when she carries herself like this.
