“In other words, I have demonic eyes!”
“W-what?!”
“…”

What am I even doing?
I’ve been thinking so hard about what I’d do from tomorrow because the people I didn’t want to meet right now are in Shiki that I’d been feeling nauseous, but now I’m at the mansion, listening to Apricot’s incomprehensible stories with Gray and Ms. Cyan.

“Well, well, Cottie. If they’re demonic, then I must exorcize them!”
“Heh, my demonic eye cannot be dispelled just by being exorcized.”

For some reason, Apricot put her hand on the eyepatch over her right eye, and laughed suspiciously with a ‘fufufu’.
Recently I’ve become able to understand her words a bit. I guess she thinks that it’s cool to have some kind of a cursed energy, but she’s probably not actually cursed.

‘[Sanctuary]’
“N-nooooo! You suddenly became serious?!”
“Lady Apricot?! Your body is starting to sparkle for some reason?!”

Eh? She’s really sparkling after being hit with a purification spell that only works on the undead and the demons…?
Maybe she really has something demonic–

“Don’t worry, Io. She’s only using a tool that temporarily envelops her body with the demonic energy that she received from Orchy. It’s not harmful and it’ll be dispelled on its own after some time.”
“I-is that so… wait a second. Just who exactly is Orchid to be able to make something like that?”
“Who knows?”

I feel like this isn’t the kind of a matter that can be swept aside with just a ‘who knows’.
But I do understand that they’re a good person who’s loved by the people of Shiki and properly scolds people when they’re doing something wrong…

“Kuh, you damn Noble Blue, who can use Sanctuary like normal even though you have a water attribute! Would a servant of God really purify my dark powers?!”

I don’t think she did anything wrong as the servant of God though.

“Lady Apricot, smoke is coming out of your body. Are you really alright?”

“Fuh, had it been somebody else in the same situation, they would have surely died on the spot and it is because I am here that things ended with just this much damage, my disciple.”

“I expected nothing less from you, lady Apricot!”

Gray applauded her with sparkling eyes as usual.

I’m worried about him being influenced strangely, but Lord Clo did say that unless things went too far, we should just watch over him quietly because he was having fun, but is it really okay to wait until things go too far?. Besides, pointing things out to people is something I… no, maybe I shouldn’t worry about it…?

Besides, I know why they’re making such a merry and acting more excited than usual. They must be doing it out of consideration for me.

They might not know the details, but they’ve probably heard that I did something at the academy. That’s why I don’t want them to worry…

“I’m back.”

“Ah, Lord Clo… welcome back.”

As Lord Clo returned home, I greeted him with words that I’ve started to say a lot since coming to Shiki.  He looked a little tired. I wonder if something happened.
… Did somebody from the academy do something to him because of me?  If so, I have to apologize–

“Welcome back~. You’re late, Clo.”
“Sorry. I was dropping off the idiot at home.”
“It was Ki, huh? Did he try to break into the church from the front?”
“I punched him when he was about to do it.”

How did she figure that out from his words?
I myself am a bit envious of them for having a conversation that I can’t understand.

“Well then, Lady Violet and everyone.”

After checking the people who were present and making sure that everybody was looking at him, Lord Clo took out a bottle with a liquid from the bag that he was holding and put it on the table.

“Let’s drink.”
“… Pardon?”

The party began.
It all started suddenly after Lord Clo opened the bottle of alcohol he had brought and after the doctor, Ivory, arrived a little late with a lot of alcoholic drinks, all 6 of us began drinking together.
I’ve never really liked drinking alcohol. Once you become an adult, you have many opportunities to drink in social situations, so I’ve been practicing drinking and getting a taste of it. I’ve also been warned by my father to not drink too much because alcohol dulls thinking… Well, I guess it doesn’t matter anymore.

“Hyaha! Are you drinking, Io~?!”
“Y-yes.”

Ms. Cyan, who’s a Sister, has also been drinking but I wonder if that’s okay for the servant of God? Moreover, she’s a bad drunk so it’s a bit troublesome. I’ve also been drinking a little because I was asked to. Lord Clo is reprimanding Cyan whenever she tries to drink too much.

“Hey, you debauched nun! Here’s a refill of your favorite drink!”
“Thank you~… buha?! W-what’s this…?!”
“It’s a drink that’s 96% alcohol. It’s surprisingly delicious. I drink it often too.”

I reckon that’s not actually alcohol but something else that’s similar… oh, Ivory’s going all at once? Is it fine for a doctor, or rather for a person, to drink that much…?

“Ivory doesn’t get drunk no matter how much he drinks and he always has Orchid’s medicine that instantly sobers him up ready, so it’s fine.”
“I-I see… wait, just who is this Orchid that can make something like that?”
“Who knows?”

You can’t just brush it away with ‘who knows’. Wait, is Lord Clo also drunk?

He even came up with something uncharacteristic of him out of nowhere, so maybe he was already drunk when he came home…?

“Mu~… it’s unfair for only you guys to drink alcohol, Lord Clo. I would also like to have a sip.”

And Gray was drinking non-alcoholic champagne, puffing out his cheeks in dissatisfaction because he couldn’t drink alcohol.
As expected, we can’t let a minor drink. I tried to talk to Gray to make him understand, but Apricot, who was closer to him, tapped Gray on the shoulder and spoke to him.

“You can’t, my disciple. Masters like us have to wait until we are 15 years old to drink alcohol. We can’t drink most alcoholic beverages until we’re at the age of 20 or older. This law exists to prevent the hindering of the growth of living beings. My disciple, you also want to stay healthy and grow taller, right?”
“Yes, but…. Muu.”
“The fact that you tried to stretch your back is proof that you are a child. Here, it’s my special drink made with lemon soaked in honey and mixed with carbonated water. It’s delicious, so let’s drink it together.”

“Yes… ah, it’s delicious. As expected of Lady Apricot.”

Who is this girl?
N-no, I get that she’s Apricot, but she’s acting too different from her usual behavior, or rather I feel like usually she would have been envious and would drink alcohol secretly.

“Fuu, besides there are ways to have fun exactly because you’re not drunk.”
“That’s?!”
“You all are drunk. Therefore I shall show you my Creator’s Gift. Your tongue is dulled when you’re drunk. Just wait patiently!”
“Oh~? You’re making snacks for us, Cottie?”
“Yes, I’ll show you something that can be made in a few minutes and is also suitable for the Nectar.  Thus, I will be borrowing your kitchen! – and this is something that I’ve already made.”
“That was fast! Or rather, you already made it?  And it’s delicious!  As expected of you, Cottie.”

No really, who is this girl.
Eh, Apricot is the best cook out of everybody here? Is she a true mage because she lives alone and takes care of herself?… oh, it’s really delicious. I’ll ask her to teach me how to make it next… maybe.
No, that’s not what I meant.
Her cooking is delicious and the alcohol Lord Clo and Ivory brought is also unexpectedly delicious. But this isn’t what I should be doing.

“Lord Clo.”
“Yes~”

When I called out to Lord Clo, he gave a more laidback reply than usual. Is he really drunk?
I don’t know if I’ll be able to hear his true intentions about the current situation while he’s in this state, but I want to ask at least.

“You might be doing it out of consideration for me, but even if you didn’t do this, I would…”
“Lady Violet, you can’t change the past.”

However, Lord Clo answered me in a more serious tone than I expected.

“We also made a lot of mistakes in different places than Shiki.  But everybody is trying to enjoy living in the present. While we should shoulder our sins, we don’t have to fight alone.”
“…”
“So, sometimes it’s good to forget everything when you’re feeling down. Umm, it’s like that. It’s like the republican saying, ‘It’s a disgrace to run away, but it’s useful’. In other words, choose your battles.”

Running away is disgraceful, but it’s useful. In other words, choose your battles.
It is important to fight against the mistakes of the past, but do not mistake who you are fighting,

“You have allies in Shiki too, so you don’t have to deal with everything alone.”

Lord Clo must want to say that I should look at my current allies too.

Hearing that, I looked at Gray and the others who were making merry.

… He’s right. I still haven’t recovered, but it should be okay to enjoy this brief instance without thinking about anything else.

“By the way, his wording also means that you can run away from your current environment too.”

“Are you serious?! No, I didn’t mean it that way, though I guess both mean to not let yourself be trapped…?!”

“Fufu, I know, Lord Clo.”

I smiled at Lord Clo, who looked panicked and drank the alcohol that was poured for me in one gulp.

Phew, I mustn’t drink too much or say strange things after getting drunk, but just enjoying myself should be fine.

Is it bad that I’m weak? Sorry for not being able to forget His Highness’ words, It should be fine to just bad talk that girl whom he likes in my heart at least. If I met His Highness again, I’d probably be flustered anyway. When I sober up, I might regret all this.

“Come on, let’s drink, Lord Clo. Ash, father and Chartreuse don’t matter today!”

“Oh, good drinking, Lady Violet. Let’s pick up the pace!”

“But we can’t drink the alcohol that’s against the law. Let’s not set a bad drinking example for minors, Lord Clo.”

“Ah, yes.”

Yes, we must distinguish that part. We can’t just let ourselves go like Ms. Cyan.

Then, the mansion’s chime rang and a person (?) entered inside after the door was opened.

“Wow, I. Am. Impressed. You. All. Oh. Thank. You. Very. Much.”

“So you were also invited, Robot. Here, here’s a glass for the latecomer.”

“Thank. You. Very. Much. Ivory… Fuh. It. Really. Does. Seep. Into. My. Body.”

… Wait. How is Ms. Robot drinking in that condition?
