Chapter 568, Urgently Needing Talent

Yu Ying rose early today as usual, first bustling about in the wooden shed for a while before returning to the Yong’an Building to begin preparing breakfast.
Although it was the snow season, Yu Ying showed no inclination to oversleep, waking at the same time as before. Sometimes she would rise even earlier, depending entirely on whether there were matters requiring attention the following day.
When the crop harvest was particularly abundant, she would supervise more closely to ensure the workers were not too rough-handed. After all, the crops grown in the greenhouses were rather delicate, and if one were not careful and applied too much force, tomatoes for instance could be completely crushed.
The people of the Primitives always applied their strength without measure, having no awareness of how much force they exerted with each grasp.
“Shaman, why did you wake up so early today?” Yu Ying had just removed her cloak when she spotted the Shaman.
Yu Ying smiled awkwardly, for when departing she had only prepared wheat porridge, leaving all the accompanying dishes unfinished. This created a rather embarrassing situation, which would become even more awkward should the Shaman say he was hungry.
“No rush. I have only just woken up. I still need to brush my teeth and exercise before taking breakfast.” Su Bai said.
He saw her slightly flushed cheeks, uncertain whether they were reddened by the cold or by embarrassment.
Each morning, Su Bai would wake up and exercise. Beyond his steadily improving Physique since transmigrating to this world, the daily consumption of Ferocious Beast Meat and Blood, required him to work out to let out the ‘heatiness’ inside him.
Su Bai remained, after all, a man in the prime of his vigour. At such times, exercise served to temper his willpower, preventing unknown ‘consequences’ from arising.
Furthermore, he harboured aspirations of becoming a Totem Warrior. In this Primitive Tribe, additional skills were certainly advantageous, and any means of preserving one’s life was naturally beneficial. Therefore, he exercised each morning, not only to strengthen his body but also to advance steadily towards becoming a Totem Warrior.
“Oh, then you should eat once you have completed your exercise.” Yu Ying immediately set down her basket and hurried into the kitchen.
The basket contained cabbage, adorned with numerous water droplets and snowflakes that made it appear exceptionally fresh.
*Step step step…*
Su Bai proceeded to the spacious living room, retrieving the previously forged Crocodile Blade and beginning his sword practice.
This Crocodile Blade had been specially crafted for him by Shan Qiu, weighing somewhat more than its predecessor.
These specifications had been deliberately requested by Su Bai, for only with increased weight would the swinging require greater force and expend more energy, thus constituting proper exercise.
*Whoosh whoosh whoosh…*
*Swish swish swish..*
The crisp sounds of blade cutting through air resonated throughout the living room, each movement decisive without any hesitation, while perspiration scattered continuously.
[It feels lighter than yesterday…] Su Bai weighed the Crocodile Blade in his hand, sensing that the weapon felt lighter each passing day. He understood this indicated his increasing physical strength.
After resting for mere seconds, he resumed wielding the Crocodile Blade. The compact space posed no hindrance whatever, providing ample room for sword practice without him striking any objects.
“Seems like I must have new weapons made again. This one has become too light…” Su Bai found today’s training to be unsatisfactory. Though he perspired, he did not feel fatigued and felt that something was lacking.
Glancing at the wall clock, which showed nine o’clock, he set down the Crocodile Blade and proceeded to brush his teeth and wash his face.
*Step step step…*
Yu Ying brought forth two bowls of wheat porridge and three accompanying dishes: stir-fried tomatoes with wild eggs, charcoal-grilled meat strips, and salt-and-pepper sweet potato slices. These were all excellent accompaniments to porridge.
She placed these items upon the dining table, her gentle voice announcing, “Shaman, breakfast is ready.”
Su Bai had just put down his linen towel and asked, “What did you prepare today?”
“Please try them and see if they are delicious, Shaman.” Apart from the stir-fried tomatoes with wild eggs, which Yu Ying had prepared previously, all the other dishes were first attempts.
“They appear quite sumptuous. Did you add enough salt to the charcoal-grilled meat strips and salt-and-pepper to the sweet potato slices?” Su Bai took his seat at the head of the table.
“Yes, Shaman. All of this has been prepared by using the salt brought back from the sea. This is the first time we are using it for cooking.” Yu Ying replied without hesitation.
The previous evening, while preparing dinner, Yu Ying had discovered that the salt obtained from the Spotted Deer Tribe had been used up during last night’s meal. So, this morning’s breakfast was the first trial of the salt previously dried at the seaside.
The coastal salt drying had proven quite successful. Though not as pristine white as that from Earth, it surpassed the quality of the Spotted Deer Tribe’s salt. Though the flavour remained untested, the appearance was already superior.
When first brought back, the Tribe had been extremely busy. Existing salt supplies were enough so this salt had remained unused.
“Hmm… the flavour is okay. Is it definitely better than the salt from the Spotted Deer Tribe.” Su Bai expressed his satisfaction with the result. [This is already good, given that we did not fully purify it.]
“This really tastes better than when using salt from the Spotted Deer Tribe!” Yu Ying said with satisfaction, her eyes narrowing with contentment.
“Yeah, we will only use this salt from now on. Once we can produce more, we can trade them for other goods.” Su Bai planned to monopolise this market.
He began contemplating conducting investigations this coming spring. He wanted to know the sources of other Tribes’ salt supplies.
Should salt mines exist nearby, that would be great. Mineral salt had a unique taste to them, once he purified them. He could not stand how other Tribes were using salt to threaten others or artificially inflate their prices.
“This will attract more people to our Tribe! Shaman, you will be very busy due to this.” Yu Ying said.
The Shaman was extremely busy each day, and should the coming spring place more workload on his shoulder, he would certainly sleep even later.
“Yeah, it seems like we need more people to help out. Or this might not be sustainable…” Su Bai suddenly reflected.
He could tell that relying solely upon Sha Lan to handle all these affairs would not be enough going forward. Now, he needed to recruit another talent to help up with the Tribe’s development.
“Shaman, who do you intend to recruit?” Yu Ying sipped her warm wheat porridge.
Su Bai likewise took a sip and replied, “I don’t have anyone in mind but we definitely need another pair of hands.”
Yu Ying found herself once again guessing who it would be and could only lower her head and continue drinking her wheat porridge.
