    Translator: Tamon

    January 16th.

Despite Lantern Festival having only been yesterday, cultivators had no such thing as ‘holiday hangover,’ starting a new year of cultivation at the first ray of sunlight.

Langde city was bustling, with a hint of rush looming in the air. Outside, its defensive array was activated, covering the immortal city in a blue haze. Palm-sized snowflakes and cannon-sized hail peppered the stormed city, with all stopped behind the light barrier.

The Western Sea Dragon King’s large-scale magical art changed half the Divine Province’s climate, yet stood powerless before this tiny city.

Even before the dawn of modern cultivation, Langde had been a thorn, firmly stuck on the Western Sea’s coast. With the arrival of Unfettered forcing the dragons into signing peace, Langde became the first line of defense against demons.

It led to Langde’s people becoming proud and tough, a sentiment extended to its Immortal Institute as well.

Qiu Yunlong glanced at the sky. “Hey, if the defenses fail, what say we compare who kills the most demons before dying?”

“Stop showing off.” Kun Zhongxuan shook his head. “The way I see it, we should compare how many we kill when we fight back.”

    “Ha-ha, my win for sure.”

Kun Zhongxuan didn’t back down. “We have opposite cultivation methods, so what makes you so sure you’ll win?”

“The guy who took you down with one punch two weeks ago.”

“Ha-ha, he did the same to you.”

Qiu Yunlong laughed. “At least I got to take out my killer move.”

The two’s argument fell silent. What happened two weeks ago left its mark on these two proud kids.

In the examination, a freak of nature crushed them like nothing. Even Ai Clan’s Ai Changyuan, feared like a god, was beaten in the end.

Each Langde disciple was overcome with one thought: [How the hell does this guy cultivate?]

“Brother Hao.” Qiu Yunlong changed the subject to break the awkward mood. “What are you thinking?”

Hu Jianghao gazed beyond the protective array. “I heard an Eminence took Ai Changyuan outside to hunt demons.”

Dragon King’s demon art might be large-scale, but it was mostly targeting the Immortal Alliance’s coastal defenses while changing the land’s weather. Cultivators were hardly affected. Primordial Spirit Realm Eminence had no issue blazing through the Western Sea still. As long as no Great Ascension dragon showed up, an Eminence had no issue surviving any encounter.

With the Ai clan’s connections, finding a free Eminence on the western border couldn’t be easier.

“The guy seems stoked.” Kun Zhongxuan sighed.

“I guess, since he never lost. I bet he plans on connecting all he learned through battle and developing a new killer move.” Qiu Yunlong said to Hu Jianghao.

He had been down ever since he lost to Wang Qi and Wu Shiqin. He should’ve been the most affected of them all.

Hu Jianghao smiled. “What are you thinking? Wu Shiqin only won because of her cultivation method advantage. You beat her due to the same reason. As for Wang Qi, ha-ha, that guy failed his written test. He’s nothing!”

    “Right, nothing!” The two agreed.

When Wang Qi was hurt from cultivating, he collapsed after the written test. His score couldn’t possibly be high.

Qiu Yunlong proposed. “They’ll post the results soon. Let’s go to Immortal Institute’s notice board and wait.”

The three buddies approached the Immortal Institute’s entrance, where a crowd had already gathered. After about an hour, the disciples in front shouted. “They’re here!”

    “Look, look!”

    “What place am I at?”

A white light screen flashed in the air, the examination’s ranking.

Qiu Yunlong looked on at Langde’s ranking on the left with excitement. “I’m 5th! I’m 5th! Brother Hao, look, you kept your 2nd spot as well.”

Ai Changyuan’s name was the very first. With him always being stuck there, no one believed there was anyone that could pry him from his throne.

Hu Jianghao ignored Qiu Yunlong. He wasn’t even aware of his surroundings, for his eyes were fixed on the right side, the ranking for the two institutes.

Ai Changyuan was still above him, naturally, but the very first was someone else.

    Wang Qi!

    Hu Jianghao shuddered all over.

[T-the same guy that only got half an hour to write?]

    [This can’t be!]

    Leyan.

A youth around twenty led a girl of thirteen into a room.

The room was quaint, with ancient decorations. An old man was sitting cross-legged before a coffee table, brewing tea. The yellow flame licked the pot’s sides as a waving trail of smoke came out.

The two sat down. “Greetings, Ancestor.”

The old man looked kindly. “Feel free to order. It’s a pity I can’t give you a cup of tea as well.

The old man wasn’t really here. Everything in the room were illusions conjured up by the All-immortal Realm.

Not just anyone could use the All-immortal Realm to do this, but this old man could. For he was Bernoulli, Johann Bernoulli.

Johann Bernoulli, the start of the Bernoulli family’s legend and one of the great Unfettered in today’s modern cultivation.

“Ancestor, what can this granddaughter do for you?”

The girl asked. She was wearing Leyan Immortal Institute’s uniform.

Johann Bernoulli asked, “For none other than the joint examination, the results of which I’m sure you’re aware of.”

    The two nodded.

“Argent Apex Immortal Institute has a new genius, one aiming for Myriad Arts Sect’s true disciple position.”

The girl shot to her feet. “This year’s true disciple spot is mine!”

The Bernoulli family had an innate obsession with math, each taking pride in becoming Myriad Arts Sect disciples.

The old man chuckled. “Don’t be so sure. He even defeated that Ai kid.”

“What?!” The youth cried out. “The same Little Transcendent, Ai Changyuan, from Cracked Peak’s Ai Clan?”

Johann Bernoulli nodded. “The very same. Which is why, Ya’er, don’t let up and don’t get overtaken. You must beat him completely in the final examination.”

The old man turned grave. “I’m sure you know what I mean.”

The girl nodded. “I am confident Bernoulli family won’t ever lose to anyone when it comes to math!”

“Mm, that’s better.” The old man laughed. “I have some materials and problems based on your level. I hope you’ll make use of them. I wanted to give them to you in person—I’m old, and new things come hard.”

    Argent Mountain peak.

Wang Qi was perusing the demon list with a frown. “Awareness Stage demons are out. Hey, Senior Brother, are there any fresh Accretion demons?”

The man in charge whined, “Junior Brother, don’t you care about the examination’s results? It’s released today!”

“I’m first anyway, so why bother?”
