Chapter 65, Interior Renovation Of The Fortress 3
by SilavinTranslator: Lizz
As they walked around further and restored the mechanisms for defense that had been hidden here and there (as expected of a fortress), time passed in no time.
When it started to feel like it was time to wrap things up, Gina raised her hand and gave her opinion.
“As for me, I want to renovate all the floors where the Lord lives. We keep putting it off because they aren’t being used, but it’s Lady Sylvia’s floor, isn’t it? It isn’t good to put off the master’s rooms!”
“”That’s true.””
Calogero and Beffa immediately agreed.
Edward thought for a while, then agreed.
“That is certainly true.”
They decided to start by renovating what seemed to be the drawing room.
When they opened the door, the room was in such a bad state that they hesitated to enter.
Everyone covered their mouths with their hands, and the pig sneezed.
Sylvia got down from the pig and held out her hand, saying,
“Step back a little.”
“Here I go! <Renovate into a room worthy of the Master—[Renovation]> —achoo!”
With a grand sneeze at the end, Sylvia chanted.
With a tremendous rattle, the dust was swept away, the wallpaper and floor peeled off and replaced, and the furniture vividly restored as if painted on a canvas.
The broken fireplace was restored as though it had re-assembled itself, and the tattered curtains were replaced with brand-new ones that appeared from nowhere.
Sylvia folded her arms and proudly snorted.
Though they were used to seeing it, it had been a long time since such a complete transformation, so everyone stared blankly. Beffa was the first to come to his senses and clapped enthusiastically.
“Impressive, Lady Sylvia! Since pledging loyalty to you, I’ve seen it a few times, but it always blows me away! Especially this time, I thought even my soul has been taken by its magnificence…!”
“It was an easy thing for me.”
Sylvia puffed herself up proudly.
The others also came to their senses and all offered praise to Sylvia.
“Impressive! What a wonderful room!”
“Truly so. Lady Sylvia’s magic always amazes me whenever I see it.”
“…Absolutely so. Lady Sylvia, that is impressive.”
Having been praised by everyone, Sylvia became even more proud.
“Then, let’s go inside!”
She strode in first and tilted her head at something displayed above the fireplace.
Seeing Sylvia’s reaction, Edward and the others grew suspicious.
“Lady Sylvia, what’s the matter… hm?”
In Sylvia’s line of sight, a painting was displayed.
“Where did that come from?”
“It was hidden. When I used magic, it just appeared.”
Sylvia answered Edward’s question with a troubled look.
Everyone looked at the painting.
—It depicted a family peacefully gathered together.
Sylvia, Edward, and Gina gazed at the painting with complicated expressions.
All of them had come here after parting with their families under difficult circumstances.
Among those present, only Calogero had reconciled with his family, but even he had the background of being the child of a mistress who was sent out for adoption.
After looking at the happy painting, Sylvia said expressionlessly,
“I don’t know these people, but they surely lived in this fortress.”
Everyone was surprised.
“…So, Lady Sylvia’s ancestors?”
“…There are ancestor portraits at home too, but I don’t know this painting or these people.”
“””Whose painting was it then?”””
Everyone tilted their heads.
At any rate, since Sylvia was the current Lord, they decided to remove the painting.
Edward, being the tallest, took it down and muttered,
“Let’s ask the Mayor. And if anyone else knows about it, we’ll hear their story.”
Beffa bowed.
“Then, I shall take it upon myself. I will make inquiries.”
Edward nodded and thanked him.
“That’ll help. But the priority is low, so only when you have free time.”
“Understood.”
Edward looked at Sylvia and murmured as if to himself,
“If anything, I wanted to hang a portrait of Lady Sylvia.”
“””Strongly agreed!”””
Everyone said in unison at once, startling Sylvia so much that she flinched.
“…The portrait will be for another time.”
Even Sylvia The Impressive thought it was a little frightening.
