Nomani and his men next came to Edward.

The leader of the knights was Edward.

Therefore, Nomani and his men always had to seek Edward’s instructions.

“Captain Edward, we carried out the inspection as directed and have withdrawn for now.”

Edward blinked several times as he looked at Nomani and his group.

He thought that they’d changed quite a bit.

But without mentioning it, he urged them to continue their report.

From what he heard, the places where they could farm and fish had been restored.

The dwellings were apparently ready to be lived in immediately.

“No special preparations were needed. That said, we’ve only just been hired. I’d like to be of use before calling my family in.”

Nomani said this earnestly, and Edward replied.

“No, do as you like. In any case, if Lady Sylvia says no, they won’t be able to live there.”

    Nomani laughed.

“Of course, I’ll make it clear. If they don’t respect Lady Sylvia, I’ll cut ties.”

Everyone nodded heartily in agreement, so Edward tilted his head, wondering why they all went to such extremes, and said,

“…Do as you like with that too.”

Since Nomani wanted to thank Sylvia as well, they brought him along. Sylvia was riding a pig.

    “Charge!”

She commanded the pig, which trotted forward at a pace just fast enough to keep Sylvia from being thrown off.

Today, Daphne and Romy were with Sylvia, both smiling and clapping softly.

In the distance, Beffa, upon seeing Sylvia, was spurting a nosebleed.

Edward thought, ‘She has no dignity but she’s cute’, and then addressed Sylvia.

“Lady Sylvia. Nomani and his men wish to express their gratitude for restoring their settlement with magic.”

When Edward turned back, Nomani and the others were already kneeling on one knee with their heads bowed.

    “Mm!”

Sylvia came over and dismounted from the pig, and Nomani spoke on behalf of the group.

“Thanks to Lady Sylvia’s magnificent magic, we have achieved our dearest wish! From now on, we shall repay this debt, swear loyalty to Lady Sylvia, and purge all who oppose her, offering them up in blood—”

    “Stop, stop.”

    Edward cut him off.

“How did it come to that? That’s way too violent. Besides, it would only cause more trouble, so that’s rejected. Just serve normally.”

    When Edward cautioned them,

“It’s fine! We are skilled in assassination as well! Information gathering is our specialty! We’ll dispose of them secretly!”

said a man named Jild, delighted.

And everyone nodded with smiling faces.

Edward started to get a headache.

“Just follow orders. …I understand your feelings, but if you go too far, it will tarnish Lady Sylvia’s name.”

When Edward persuaded them like this, their expressions changed and they nodded gravely.

Sylvia thought that Edward also fussed over the weak opponents who attacked them, so wasn’t it the same? But she only tilted her head.

They could do as they liked. She would not stop them.

—And so, Sylvia’s private knight order was safely established.

The uniforms, designed by Gina and ordered from a clothing shop, were completed and distributed, giving them a proper appearance.

Edward lent them weapons from the armory and instructed them to equip themselves during patrols and guard duty.

As Nomani and the knights began regularly patrolling the town and fortress, public order started to return.

Knights bearing swords served as a deterrent to criminals.

    But that was not all.

They had originally been informants. They were skilled at blending into the town and at easing people’s suspicions.

Soon, the townsfolk grew familiar with the Narciso clan and came to rely on them.
