Edward lifted Sylvia up and spoke to Nomani.

“I think she pushed herself a little too hard, so Lady Sylvia will withdraw for now. Nomani, stay here and check how things have changed. You may leave a few people behind for inspection, but the rest should return for security. Once the inspection is complete, you too will withdraw, Nomani, and prepare to set up a rotation for residence. I’ll repeat myself: make sure all the family members are interviewed by Lady Sylvia. Do not let anyone reside here arbitrarily. And anyone already living here without permission must be arrested. This is an order.”

    “Understood.”

    Nomani bowed his head.

Edward wanted Sylvia to sleep inside the ox cart, but he knew she would absolutely refuse, so he spoke to the horse he had ridden.

“…Since there’s no helping it, I’ll go in Lady Sylvia’s ox cart. Will you come along?”

The horse neighed as if to say it agreed.

“Lady Sylvia, I’ll pull the ox cart on the way back. Please rest.”

    “Mm!”

Sylvia nodded happily while clinging to Edward.

She thought to herself that it was nice she had worked hard.

“I should have asked Gina or Emma to come along.”

When they reached the fortress, Edward muttered this as he handed the peacefully sleeping Sylvia to Gina, who had come to greet them.

“If even you can’t stop her, Edward, what do you expect me to do…”

Gina answered while holding Sylvia in her arms, and Edward gave her a wry smile.

“With the two of us, maybe we could stop her? Gina could plead with her, Emma could scold her, either would be effective.”

    Gina also smiled wryly.

This time, Gina and the others had not accompanied them because they were training to be maids.

At last, the Marquis’s daughter who would serve as a tutor was about to arrive.

Both Gina and Emma had been receiving intensive training from Daphne and Romy.

“It’s fine as long as she’s alright. She just wanted to show the new hires what she could do.”

When Gina said this, Edward agreed.

“True, it did feel like they genuinely praised her.”

Even though Sylvia’s magic could control others, it didn’t impose restrictions like forbidding lies.

So it was possible they were offering compliments out of politeness, but surely no one would fail to feel moved or grateful when their master accomplished in an instant a task that might otherwise take an unknown amount of time.

Just as Edward sensed, Nomani and the others truly wished to devote themselves to Sylvia, and they showed it in their actions.

By evening, Nomani’s group had mostly returned, and they offered thanks to Beffa first of all.

“Today I truly feel glad we saved you back then. All of us are grateful to you for introducing us to Lady Sylvia.”

    Beffa was surprised, then nodded.

“I’m grateful too, for the way you persuaded me to return to the Marquis’s house at that time. Thanks to that, I was sent here as a spy and ended up serving under a wonderful master.”

    Nomani laughed.

“So that’s what you’re thankful for, not the rescue itself? Well, I suppose that’s fair. If someone else had saved you, you would have walked a different path and never met Lady Sylvia. Same goes for us.”

They nodded to each other in agreement.
