Chapter 197, Geometrical Martial Art
by SilavinTranslator: Tamon
Su Junyu arrived a bit later. Before going for Immortal Institute, he ate out with other Myriad Arts Sect Senior Brothers, arriving at night.
Entering his room, he noticed Xiang Qi just standing there. He backed up out of reflex and checked the lock.
“Just as I thought, broken. I knew something was off when I opened the door without unlocking it. What the hell are you up to? Don’t you know this is illegal?”
Xiang Qi beamed in answer. “Brothers don’t require courtesy.”
“Screw that! I’m Su and you’re Xiang, not fam.”
“You should be used to it by now. Haven’t I gone to your room without knocking back in Leyan Immortal Institute?”
Su Junyu facepalmed. “That’s why I skipped unlocking this time. My very being actually accepted no lock will ever work when you’re around.”
“Well put.”
Su Junyu threw a pastry box. “Here, almond crunch cookies, a local delicacy.”
Xiang Qi took it and touched her storage bag. “How nice of you. Your hometown’s sweets are better than anywhere else…”
“Don’t talk about it like my hometown only makes sweets.” Su Junyu defended. “And I don’t accept Scorching Metal Valley’s alchemical candy.”
Xiang Qi clicked her tongue.
“Every time you try it, you’ll never know what taste you get with that thing.” Su Junyu complained. “I can’t for the life of me understand how can your sugar get such a weirdo taste.”
“‘The next taste defies imagination’ is the selling point of sweets using that sugar. We enjoy it every year in Scorching Metal Valley.”
“Hence my relief that I joined Myriad Arts Sect when I did. Now what’s up with him?” Su Junyu pointed at Wang Qi. “Did you go and feed him Scorching Metal Valley’s specialty?”
Wang Qi’s condition was borderline mental. Every couple glances at the book, he’d close his eyes for a few minutes before starting again.
“He’s polishing how to advance.” Xiang Qi explained his unconscious minor advancement to her other Junior Brother.
Su Junyu frowned, turning grave. He walked to Wang Qi and yanked Permutation Theory from his hand. “What are you dubious about?”
“The feel of advancing.” Wang Qi said. “I want a deeper understanding of mental arts and spiritual power. But I advanced out of the blue and didn’t notice the changes.”
Su Junyu shook his head. “Energy comes from thought, thought comes from intent. Your advancement relied on your true intent spurring your soul to push spiritual power into cycling and reach mid Qi Refining. You know that.”
“Knowing why doesn’t make it any better.” Wang Qi looked disgusted. As a modern Earthling, he didn’t mind about the black box concept. But he was also a scientist and his tolerance was low for too many black boxes in his field.
“Polishing is pointless.” Su Junyu shook his head. “While writing papers, your being was focused on math, while your thoughts revolved around the core of your cultivation method, making an unconscious harmony of energy and mind, mind and intent. If you’re to solve problems and analyze mental arts, it would be even harder to reach such a state.”
Xiang Qi said. “You think I don’t know that? He insists on giving it a try.”
“I want to make the most suitable foundation for me. These six months will be the best chance, consulting many professionals in different fields.” Wang Qi said. “That’s why I’m rushing to understand a cultivation method’s quality.”
Su Junyu gasped. [Making a new foundation? Doesn’t this guy know its mostly an Eminence who does that? Why is he so certain of success?]
“Aren’t the known ones enough for you?”
Wang Qi spread his arms. “Then find me one with Grand Ripple Enigma and Waveform Essence.”
Wang Qi was the first Qi Refining disciple to train in Grand Ripple Enigma and Waveform Essence. He wanted this advantage to become permanent, adding the two cultivation methods into his foundation.
Su Junyu muttered. “Show off. Fine, I won’t stop you. Find me when you got questions. However, this approach is wrong. Wait a bit and I’ll guide…”
Wang Qi jumped. “Why wait? Now’s the perfect time!”
Wang Qi knew Su Junyu’s level. With the Myriad Arts Sect true disciple giving pointers, he’d figure out the cultivation method’s nature in no time.
Su Junyu was speechless, reduced to asking, “Is all the material you used to write your papers related to you path?”
Wang Qi nodded. “Six months feel a bit cramped.”
“Where are the papers? Let me take a look.”
Wang Qi took them out, the thirteen papers were about geometry, algebra, function, group theory, and many more. The thick stack of papers he wrote without even realizing got him proud. [If I had applied for Gottingen University instead of University of Copenhagen, my learning would’ve surely ended up higher.]
Su Junyu trained in Heavenly Position, with his computation and thinking speeds beyond a mere commoner. That, combined with high math skills resulted in flipping through the papers like a magazine. Since the papers themselves presented no new discoveries or theories, he finished them all in minutes.
Wang Qi was thinking to ask him what did he miss, but Su Junyu posed an odd question. “Do you understand straight lines?”
Ever since Geometry God created geometry, who hadn’t?
Wang Qi was about to retort when Su Junyu snapped, “Straight!”
Su Junyu’s left leg flashed forward, while his right flung ahead without an ounce of showing off, just a straight line but containing a deep feel.
[Is he testing my kung fu?]
Wang Qi reacted, using Book of Geometry to analyze Su Junyu’s finger. Sure enough, it was your typical straight line equation. His right hand flicked and the trajectory of his fist was tangent to Su Junyu’s finger.
Wang Qi canceled Su Junyu’s strike with the right amount of force.
“Twin arcs!”
Su Junyu took another step and brought up two half arcs with his left hand, with meager yet imposing force. It was hard to tell it was genuine or not, but had ferocity as it arrived before Wang Qi.
Hyperbola?
Wang Qi used his spiritual power to get his punch to go in a straight line and be tangent to Su Junyu’s fist and cancel his move.
“Spiral!”
Su Junyu withdrew his right hand to his waist, using the palm like a blade and cut as he moved from small to bigger motions toward Wang Qi.
[A spiral?]
The difficulty spiked!
