    POV: Violet

One night, I had a dream.

Handling the incident, chatting with my in-laws and being evaluated as a Wife. Dealing with Kriemhild, who was sound asleep from the side-effect of her medicine and Silva, who was strangely quiet. It was the night I heard Mrs. Vert’s monster investigation report that she had been conducting over the past few days and was told that although she had found no problems, she might have needed to conduct another investigation.

Although we didn’t have a girls’ night like yesterday, I talked about various things with Kriemhild, who was full of energy after waking up, and my in-laws, and ended up going to bed late for the second day in a row. Furthermore, I was feeling more tired than usual, and as I was replaying the words Lord Clo had shouted over and over in my head, I fell asleep before I knew it.

    —This place is…?

And in the dream, I found myself in a strange place. Since I was able to recognize that this was a dream, I was probably experiencing something called a lucid dream.

But strangely enough, the landscape was something of a place I had never seen before. I learned a long time ago that dreams were basically a way of organizing memories, so while I was a little confused by this unfamiliar place I had never imagined, my sleepy, clouded mind decided that this was probably how things worked in a dream.

—If this is a lucid dream, I wish Lord Clo appeared.

And I wanted to do things that were only possible in a dream.

I would have a hard time voicing what I actually wanted to do, but I wanted to do something I normally could not do. For example, princess-carrying Lord Clo… oh, come to think of it, Mary did that once. This time I want to do it with Lord Clo in real life…

    “—Kuro?!”

Then, somebody who appeared in my dream called Lord Clo’s name.

Reacting to that word, I turned in the direction I thought the voice came from, and like before, it was somebody I had never seen before in a place I had never seen before. The person who was addressed…

“Are you alright? What’s with all that blood!? Did you get in an accident, or an incident?!”

Turned out to be a boy who was slightly shorter than me, and had black hair and black eyes that were different from Lord Clo’s (blue eyes). The boy was covered in blood and had a somewhat hollow air around him.

“Please don’t worry. This is just blood that splattered on me when I was attacked. I myself am unharmed. I’d intended to wash it off, thinking it would be discourteous of me to appear in such a state, but it seemed unlikely I’d be able to make it in time for closing time. I’ve caused you trouble by keeping you waiting before.”

The boy bowed deeply towards the apron-wearing woman and assured her that he was fine with the same blank expression. He then added, “I’ve come to pick up my Sister”, and ignoring the worried woman, he went to pick up a little girl who appeared to be his Younger Sister.

The white-haired girl, who seemed to be his Sister, ran up to the boy called Kuro with a look of joy on her face, dove into his chest despite him being covered in blood and said with a smile, “Welcome back.”

The woman was left speechless by the strange sight, and the young Siblings went off somewhere.

    —Just what is this dream?

I don’t know any of those people. I don’t remember reading a similar book in the past either.

I felt that the boy called Kuro was somewhat similar to Lord Clo, but they only seemed similar and I could sense that there was something different about them.

However, ignoring my doubts, the strange dream continued.

    “Big Brother, Big Brother,”

    “What’s wrong, Little Sister?”

“Sure, Mom rarely comes home, doesn’t she now? Where do ye reckon she’s off to?”

“You shouldn’t worry about it too much. You’ll understand when you grow up.”

“Is that so? Aye, I guess I’m not gettin’ it, bein’ the numpty I am. Well, never ye mind then.”

“Okay, what’s with the dialect? It sounds too forced.”

    “Brother, Brother.”

    “What’s wrong, Sister?”

“I tried to laugh like you told me to, but does my laugh sound weird?”

    “… I don’t know. Everybody laughs differently.”

“Maybe I should laugh like a character in this game. Ahahahahaha!”

“Everybody will be surprised if you suddenly switched to using a villain’s high-pitched laughter in real life.”

    “Then I’ll try this character’s laugh… Okyokyokyokyokyo!”

“Why did you choose that?… or rather, there are some crazy characters in this Otome Game.. Are there a lot of Otome Games like this?”

“Well, there are Otome Games where the main character can transform, and if you choose to transform into a Jizo, it’s usually the right choice.”

    “Seriously? That’s amazing.”

    “Older Brother, Older Brother.”

    “What’s wrong, Younger Sister?”

“I want to quit my karate lessons. Nobody trains with me, and it’s boring.”

“Sure, but… it’s not because you just want to play games, is it?”

“Yeah! I want to make time for the demonic fusion of RPG+Otome Game that’s coming out soon.

    “Hey now!… Well, I guess it’s fine.”

    “Bro, bro.”

    “What’s wrong, Sis.”

“Don’t you often sew clothes while watching me play games? Does it ever mess with your stitches? Especially since you’re hand-sewing.”

“This kind of thing takes getting used to it, and I only sew when it’s safe to do so. In short, it’s fine.”

“I see… Ah, she died again?! Why?!”

“If I’m not imagining it, the characters in that Otome Game die a lot, don’t they?”

“Yeah, this time I offered to protect His Highness ■■■■■■■ and the next morning the heroine was killed by a jealous character…”

“Usually, if you leave the love interest alone in that situation, they’re the ones who end up dead, but I guess they were trying to subvert the trope… I wonder if they wanted to portray female jealousy.”

“By the way, the one who killed the heroine was a male character who loved the love interest and was driven mad by jealousy.”

    “Seriously?”

    “Big Bro, big Bro.”

    “What’s wrong, Lil Sis?”

“I finally reached the true ending of this game.”

“Oh finally. Even though it was a bit unfair, I know you loved this game, so I’m glad you made it, ■■.”

“Yeah, it was long… I was frustrated that it was so entertaining despite all the absurdity… Ah, but…”

    “But?”

“Many characters became happy, but in the end, that character never found happiness.”

    “That character… oh, that villainess—“

Various scenes and conversations between the boy and the girl flew by, as if I was reading a patchwork of memories–

    “…. Ah!”

    And then I woke up.

Looking around, I saw that I was asleep in a bed in a very familiar room. Next to me were Kriemhild, who had declared that she would sleep with me, and Mary, who joined us in a heartbeat, both sleeping soundly.

Other than that, it was my usual room, albeit a bit chilly without anything hanging up.

I tried to think back on the dream, wondering why I had dreamed of such  a thing, but I couldn’t remember much of it.

They say that living things forget 90% of their dreams. That’s probably why I can’t remember it.

There was no need to force myself to remember so I decided not to worry about it. After all, it was just a dream.

    Translation:

“That so? Aye, I guess I’m not gettin’ it, bein’ the numpty I am. Well, never ye mind then.”

“I see. I just can’t understand it because I’m stupid. Well, whatever.”

    TL Note:

Throughout the memories, younger Sister addresses Kuro in different ways and Kuro also replies in a similar way.

    1. お兄ちゃん (onii-chan) -> reply: 妹ちゃん (imouto-chan)
    2. 兄さん (nii-san) -> reply: 妹さん (imouto-san)
    3. お兄様 (onii-sama) -> reply: 妹様 (imouto-sama)
    4. 兄 (nii) -> reply: 妹 (imouto)
    5. 兄貴 (aniki) -> reply: 貴妹 (kimai)

They’re all just different ways of saying older brother and younger Sister, ranging from casual to formal. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy to make similar distinctions in English.
