Chapter 721, Small Interlude

Sha Lan looked on with increasing disbelief. Such an adorable beast was a stone-hearted killer? The contrast seemed too far-fetched.
She twirled her blue hair absently, speaking in a gentle voice, “Hi cutie, come over here for a moment.”
Sha Lan found herself suddenly captivated by this beast, observing its fluffy appearance with evident delight.
The Water Beaver possessed remarkably long fur, though when wet it maintained its form rather than resembling a drowned creature. Instead, it bore striking similarity to Earth’s seals.
That particular type of fur remained thick and insulating, much like otters. In essence, it was too adorable.
“Better to keep your distance. No one can predict what might happen.” Yan Hua cautioned.
Yan Hua gripped her military knife, her expression exceptionally grave, prepared for any sudden developments.
“How could it be dangerous? It appears somewhat frightened, actually.” Sha Lan replied, turning her head.
*Em em em*
The Water Beaver continued vocalizing, its body steadily retreating. The various elements aboard the vessel had evidently alarmed it.
“These beasts primarily live in waters near land. They normally forage or rest in the water, rarely venturing onto shore.” Long explained.
Having resided in the Sea Fish Tribe for considerable time, he possessed reasonable familiarity with such matters. Moreover, living by the coast, he frequently saw these peculiar beasts. His Father had imparted substantial knowledge on these subjects as well.
“What is their diet like?” Sha Lan enquired with curiosity. She appeared quite taken with it, eager to understand it.
She continually suppressed the impulse to rush forward and embrace it. The temptation to stroke its fur proved nearly too overwhelming.
“Various shellfish, small fish and shrimp from the water. They’re a Collectivistic beasts as well, so it is strange why this one has appeared alone.” Long said, perplexed.
“It might be separated from its group. Should we keep it?” Sha Lan immediately suggested.
Sha Lan found herself instantly captivated by this beast, her mind dwelling on the prospect of keeping it.
“Impossible. Too dangerous. What if it hurts others?” Long considered it inappropriate.
“I don’t think that’s possible. This little one doesn’t seem fierce at all.” Yan Hua supported Sha Lan’s position.
Long placed one hand against his forehead, sighing, “It seems you remain unaware of its terrible potential.”
He had witnessed it personally. The Water Beaver’s explosive capability rivalled that of Ferocious Beasts.
*Em em em* The Water Beaver continued its vocalizations, its body beginning to shift position gradually. It appeared to be preparing an offensive.
“Everyone be careful. It’s preparing to act!” Long urgently warned.
Yan Hua immediately restrained Sha Lan, speaking sternly, “I believe maintaining some distance would be good.”
“But, doing that will only make it more fearful,” Sha Lan expressed her concern. Isolating it in this manner would likely increase its agitation.
“That won’t happen. Didn’t we already say it’s a Ferocious Beast?” Yan Hua immediately countered.
Sha Lan remained fond of the Water Beaver. As though not hearing anything, she continued advancing towards it.
*Step step step…*
Sha Lan moved with exceptional quietness, apprehensive of creating excessive disturbance that might startle the Water Beaver.
*Em em em*
The Water Beaver retreated correspondingly, its previously damp fur beginning to dry, becoming increasingly fluffy.
“Don’t be scared. I won’t harm you.” Sha Lan spoke softly. She continuously held her long blue hair, anxious that sudden movement might alarm it.
*Pu chi…* The Water Beaver suddenly expelled a lengthy water jet, directed straight towards Sha Lan.
Sha Lan possessed considerable agility. Instantly sensing danger, she spun away, evading the water jet.
The water jet struck the mast directly, creating an immediate indentation.
Evidently, the water jet possessed great force, having carved a depression into the solid mast.
Sha Lan glanced back at the indentation, her blue eyes widening instantly with relief at her successful evasion. Had she failed to dodge, she would likely have sustained severe injury. A strike to a vital area might even prove fatal.
“I told you it was dangerous.” Long exhaled with relief.
That water jet fortunately struck no one. Otherwise, serious injury would have been inevitable.
“Ah Lan, distance yourself from it. It might release another water jet!” Yan Hua urged.
Yan Hua had been positioned particularly close, affording her clear observation of the water jet.
“No worries. That water jet must be made from the water stored within its body. It cannot discharge continuously.” Sha Lan immediately responded.
“You’re right. It must return to the water to replenish its reserves before releasing another water jet,” Long confirmed.
Sha Lan demonstrated her considerable intelligence, her analysis revealing the beast’s characteristics in an instant. She began gradually lowering her posture while advancing, attempting to reduce her height.
“Don’t be afraid. We won’t harm you.” Sha Lan continued addressing the beast.
*Pu chi, pu chi…* At that moment, the sound of beating wings resonated from above. A massive avian beast descended.
That beast’s objective was clearly the Water Beaver on the deck, flying directly towards it.
*Criii* The Peak Eagle refused to tolerate any beast creating disturbance in its territory. It immediately beat its wings and ascended.
“Ah Hen, protect the Water Beaver!” Sha Lan commanded instantly.
Sha Lan raised her head, observing the beast descending rapidly from above, its talons exceptionally sharp.
Peak Eagle appeared to comprehend, charging towards the approaching beast.
Sha Lan, concerned that Ah Hen might prove not enough, rushed to the Water Beaver in several swift strides, embracing it while positioning her back towards the sky.
*Criii*
The two eagle-type beasts engaged in aerial combat, periodically accompanied by falling feathers.
“Ah Hen, slash through its neck! We’ll feast on eagle meat tonight!” Yan Hua called out.
Yan Hua had grown accustomed to this. During the journey from the Dragon Flame Tribe to the Sea Fish Tribe, they faced attacks from either aquatic or aerial beasts. Fortunately, they had navigated each dangerous situation successfully. This explained everyone’s vigilant positioning on the deck.
Several minutes later, the flying beast evidently proved inferior to Peak Eagle, beginning to falter.
Just as it prepared to flee, Peak Eagle seized its back, slamming it forcefully onto the deck.
Yan Hua immediately produced her military knife, rolling forward and severed the beast’s throat.
Observing this, Sha Lan embraced the Water Beaver, exhaling with relief, “We’re safe now.”
*Em em em* The Water Beaver raised its head towards Sha Lan with some bewilderment, momentarily forgetting to struggle.
