Inside the Yong’an Building, Gang Guo stood surrounded by a group of Totem Warriors in the centre of the living room.

Su Bai sat in the chief seat watching him and asked. “Have you truly thought it through?”

The three days Gang Guo had been given to stay in the Flame Dragon Tribe had passed. Now, it was time for him to give his answer.

Gang Guo’s answer was that he wished to stay. Su Bai was not surprised, but he wanted to see whether the man was truly sincere.

He valued capable people greatly. But those who were not loyal to the Flame Dragon Tribe, he did not want.

“I have thought it through, Shaman. I wish to stay.” Gang Guo’s answer came without hesitation.

“Why do you wish to stay? Tell me why.” Su Bai said, one word at a time.

“The Flame Dragon Tribe is far better than the Dark Scorpion Tribe. Not just a little better. It is so much better.” Gang Guo said what was in his heart without the slightest hesitation. “In the days I have spent inside the Flame Dragon Tribe, I have seen it clearly.”

“I am not at all surprised by the choice you’ve made. But how will you convince me to trust you?” Su Bai asked.

He had no desire to ask for lengthy explanations. The quality of the Flame Dragon Tribe was plain for anyone to see. Anyone kept in the Flame Dragon Tribe for a few days, so long as the Tribe was willing to accept them, would betray their original Tribe without fail.

Su Bai still wanted to know what the man would offer as proof. He had the Lie Detection Skill, but he wanted another rope to tie him to the Tribe.

“If the Shaman still does not trust me, I am willing to be confined for a time, for as long as it takes until the Shaman does.” Gang Guo’s voice was firm. Not so much as a flicker of emotion crossed his face.

“And you?” Su Bai turned to the other man.

“The same for me. The living conditions in the Flame Dragon Tribe are simply too good. The food and the goods are all excellent. The Dark Scorpion Tribe could not achieve this in a lifetime.”

Tan was clearly more talkative than Gang Guo. “A Tribe this good is one I would gladly serve. I would gladly serve the Shaman.”

It was not that he feared death or clung to comfort. His character was simply not as hard as Gang Guo’s. But he was the sort who knew which way the wind was blowing. Faced with conditions this good, he knew what choice to make, and he knew the life that choice would bring.

“And you, what will you offer as proof of your loyalty? The Flame Dragon Tribe is an exceptional Tribe and has no shortage of people. But if either of you has any crooked intentions, I have no room for you here.”

Su Bai’s dark eyes let slip a killing intent. The presence in that gaze made every Totem Warrior in the room sit up sharply.

It was only a look. But it was enough to make those present feel as though a cold wind had swept through the room.

The Totem Warriors of the Flame Dragon Tribe could not help but inwardly marvel. The Shaman’s power had truly grown. He was nothing like the young man he had been at the start.

Gang Guo could feel the killing intent flowing from Su Bai as well. He held his composure on the surface, though there was great admiration inside.

“The same goes for me. If the Shaman does not trust me, I am willing to have a finger cut off, as proof of my loyalty.” Tan said without flinching.

He had originally thought to offer his entire hand. Then he considered what that would mean for his career as a Totem Warrior.

Losing one finger would not stop him from being a Totem Warrior.

Su Bai’s eye twitched slightly when he heard that. Totem Warriors truly were certainly fierce. All violence and bloodshed, and now one was offering to chop off a finger.

He sat up straight and waved them forward. “You two, come here. I’ll run a test and I’ll know.”

Su Bai had decided to use the Lie Detection Skill. That way he would know plainly whether or not they were lying.

Gang Guo and Tan nodded, and walked forward under the eyes of the assembled Totem Warriors.

Su Bai blinked his dark eyes and activated the Lie Detection Skill.

The moment the Skill activated, a white light began to radiate from Gang Guo and Tan.

Of course, only Su Bai could see that light. To anyone else looking, the two showed no change at all.

“I can trust you both.” Su Bai gave a satisfied nod.

When the Lie Detection Skill was used, a white light from the person being tested meant they had not lied.

    Black light meant they had.

Only the one conducting the test could see either light. No one else would notice anything out of the ordinary.

“Shaman, is that all it takes?” Gang Guo had no idea what had just happened.

“Thank you for trusting us, Shaman. We will never let the Flame Dragon Tribe down.” Tan straightened up at once.

He had no idea what had happened either. But since the Shaman had believed what he said, some acknowledgement was in order.

“I’m satisfied for now, but there is one more thing to be done. I want to sign a Contract.” Su Bai continued.

Since they had passed the Lie Detection Skill, he intended to use the next Skill: Contract.

After all, they were men from an enemy Tribe. They had defected now, but that was no reason to be careless.

They could show their loyalty in this moment, but the future was another matter. Caution was still warranted. The Contract Skill was the most reliable constraint.

“Shaman, may I ask what a Contract is?” Gang Guo was feeling a little lost. He had encountered rather a lot of unfamiliar words today.

“It is not too late to change your mind. But once you have signed a Contract with me, whether you live or die you will be people of the Flame Dragon Tribe.” Su Bai said it plainly.

“We are willing.” The two answered without a moment’s pause.

“Good.” Su Bai said, and activated the Contract Skill.

A golden light circled his wrist once and then spread outward, reaching toward the wrists of Gang Guo and Tan.

In the space of a blink, two golden lines of light had connected all three. In another blink, the lines were gone.

Gang Guo remained where he was, stunned. He kept staring at his wrist, turning it this way and that, as though trying to pull the golden light back out.

Tan was the same. His mouth hung open, wide enough that it would not close. His expression held nothing but astonishment.

“That was the process of forming a Contract. From this day forward, you are people of the Flame Dragon Tribe. Work hard and contribute to the Tribe.” Su Bai said it seriously.

Inwardly, he was very pleased. In one stroke, the Tribe had welcomed two Mid-Stage Totem Warriors.

And both had been tested by the Lie Detection Skill. With the binding of the Contract, betrayal was all but impossible.

“Yes. We are people of the Flame Dragon Tribe in life, and we will not bring shame to the Flame Dragon Tribe in death.” Tan said it with his easy, glib tongue.

“We will never betray.” Gang Guo said four words, each one clear and firm.
