Chapter 1188, The Strong Girl

“I did not expect it to be this kind of enhancement. But it’s all right, I guess.” Su Bai was mildly disappointed.
He had imagined something far more dramatic. Like an all-round boost that left a person with the constitution of a superhero.
Of course, that had only ever been his imagination. It was honestly quite unrealistic.
Now he thought back on it, dragging the girls all the way out to that remote spot really had been a bit foolish.
“I’m so jealous. I still don’t seem to have changed at all.” Sha Lan came to the window and looked outside.
She found she could see exactly the same distance as before. And she heard exactly what she had always heard. Nothing finer or more distant.
“I… I think my Strength might have gone up quite a bit.” Yu Ying flexed her fingers slowly.
Yu Ying felt her hands were unusually strong. And yet they felt strangely light at the same time. It was a difficult feeling to put into words. She simply had the sense that she could lift something very heavy.
“Give it a try. Try… try lifting Ah’Hua.” Su Bai hesitated before suggesting it.
He had nearly suggested lifting himself. But he thought better not. The image was undignified, and being picked up by a girl was… not for him…
“I’ll try.” Yu Ying shook out her fingers and prepared to lift.
“Can you actually do it, Xiao Yu? I don’t think you’ve ever picked me up before. You won’t drop me, will you?” Yan Hua instinctively stepped back.
In her memory, Yu Ying had always been on the quieter, more delicate side. The idea of being lifted by her was a little nerve-wracking.
“Don’t worry. I’ll do my best not to drop you.” Yu Ying smiled, showing her small teeth.
Yu Ying suddenly felt quite confident. As though there was nothing in the world she couldn’t lift.
Yu Ying scooped Yan Hua up in a princess carry. The whole thing was very fast and very easy.
She did not look as if she was trying at all. As effortless as lifting a cloth doll.
“Since when did Xiao Yu get so strong?” Sha Lan stared from the side, completely caught off guard.
“It seems the pill worked. Xiao Yu has taken the one that enhances Strength.” Su Bai nodded thoughtfully.
He looked at Yan Hua settled in Yu Ying’s arms. For some reason, the whole scene seemed perfectly natural. Easy on the eyes, too.
[Like lilies blooming back home… *Ahem*.] Su Bai cleared his throat at once and pushed the thought away. He really could not afford to let his mind wander down that road.
He felt his face go a bit warm. People really shouldn’t let themselves think too freely.
“Xiao Yu, amazing. I can’t believe you picked me up so easily.” Yan Hua looked genuinely astonished.
She had thought only a Totem Warrior had that kind of arm strength. Lifting someone wasn’t unusual, but lifting someone with such effortless ease, with no strain at all, was something else.
Yu Ying really did look as though she was holding a handful of straw. Face unhurried, breathing steady, completely at ease.
“I’m not sure myself. Carrying a bucket of water used to feel like hard work. Now you feel very light.” Yu Ying touched a finger to her chin without thinking.
She went around the room looking for things to test herself on.
Tables, wardrobes, large wooden trunks.
Yu Ying lifted each one with no difficulty. She had the same easy composure throughout, like she was playing a game.
“All right, all right. Keep moving things around and you’ll have the whole Yong’an Building rearranged.” Su Bai laughed and waved her off.
The sight of her going around the room hunting for heavy objects was genuinely endearing. And the contrast couldn’t be more striking.
Yu Ying looked so small, so gentle. And yet she was carrying things that should have been immovable.
Anyone who walked in and saw it would probably get quite a shock.
“Both of them have had their changes. But, why do I still not feel much of anything?” Sha Lan checked herself.
She was desperate to find something. She wondered whether hers might be something completely different from the others.
She was not particularly envious of either of their abilities. Far sight and sharp hearing were things that sounded rather odd, if she was being honest.
Greater Strength was not something to envy either, given that she was a Totem Warrior and her Strength was already quite high.
“Yours might need a bit more time. Or the change is already there and you simply haven’t noticed it yet.”
Su Bai rubbed her head gently. “Take a careful look now. You might find something different if you really pay attention.”
He understood how she felt. They had all eaten at the same moment, but the other two had already seen obvious results.
“My strength hasn’t changed. Vision and hearing haven’t changed. Could it be smell? No, that’s the same too.” Sha Lan muttered to herself as she checked herself over.
“Maybe the change is somewhere you haven’t thought to look. What about jumping? Try that. Your leap might have gotten stronger.” Su Bai suggested.
These pills only affected Physique. Nothing else. So, it was likely somewhere in terms of Strength, Agility or Reaction Speed.
“Jump?” Sha Lan bent slightly at the knees, ready to jump.
“Start small. Gauge yourself first. Don’t jump too high.” Su Bai cautioned her at once.
Nobody knew whether her leaping ability had actually increased. If it had, and she threw herself into a full jump, she might crack straight into the ceiling.
“All right.” Sha Lan held back and jumped lightly. It felt no different from usual.
She jumped a few more times with increasing force. The same height as always.
“Doesn’t look like it. Let’s try something else.” Su Bai frowned faintly.
Not knowing which particular thing had been enhanced was a frustrating sort of feeling. Nothing turned up no matter where one looked.
“Shaman…” Sha Lan glanced absently at the stool beside her. It was in pieces.
She had caught it with her tail on the last jump.
“Don’t tell me the enhancement went to your tail.” Su Bai’s mouth twitched several times.
He had thought of many possibilities. A tail had not been among them. It was truly unexpected.
“It does seem like it really went to the tail. I can feel it’s very strong now.” Sha Lan gave her cat tail a small, careful flick.
She looked at her tail. Then she looked at the stool her tail had reduced to splinters. She soon went quiet.
Yan Hua and Yu Ying went just as still. They hadn’t expected this either.
