Chapter 1116, There Is Only Plunder

Qing Bo narrowed his brown vertical-slit pupils and looked out of the window, watching the comings and goings of the Flame Dragon Tribe below without pause.
He looked wary. Even having moved into the Restful Night Building, he could not settle. Something about it all left him on edge.
“What’s the matter, Brother? You’ve been standing there for a long time.” Qing Xi asked.
The two of them were both from the Green Snake Tribe. One was an Early-Stage Totem Warrior, the other Mid-Stage.
Their most striking features were their eyes, vertical pupils like a snake’s, sharp and unsettling. Their tongues were another matter, long things that darted out from time to time just like a snake’s forked tongue.
“How can you be so relaxed? The look on your face says you’ve already taken a liking to this place.” Qing Bo frowned.
Since entering the Restful Night Building, he had not once let his guard down. He had not even sat.
Qing Bo kept his eyes fixed on the window at all times, unwilling to look away for a moment, terrified of missing something important.
“It really is comfortable here. Haven’t you tried lying down in your own room? Come and feel it, Brother.” Qing Xi immediately beckoned him over.
“No. I’ve no interest in that sort of thing. I need to gather more intelligence first.” Qing Bo shook his head.
He had been observing since they were still on the ship, watching carefully from every angle.
He had not yet found anything particularly useful, which was precisely why Qing Bo was so intent on collecting information now.
“There’s nothing to it. You’ve been watching for so long. What intelligence worth collecting have you actually found?” Qing Xi waved her hand dismissively.
“Maybe something will come up next. We can’t afford to be careless.” Qing Bo remained serious.
“The Flame Dragon Tribe really is an amazing Tribe.” Qing Xi said suddenly, with something close to admiration.
She rose as well and came to stand at the window, her delicate vertical pupils sweeping across the scene below, trying to catch hold of something.
The two Siblings had separate rooms, but Qing Bo had been coming to Qing Xi’s room out of worry about what the Flame Dragon Tribe might be up to.
Of course, the real reason was to discuss certain matters, all for the sake of the Green Snake Tribe.
“Where did all these buildings come from? They really are… really not bad at all.” Qing Bo could not help but say it.
He had been curious about the Flame Dragon Tribe’s multi-storey buildings for some time. But his habitual seriousness did not lend itself to saying so.
“I wonder if the Flame Dragon Tribe would tell us. Our Tribe needs buildings like these.” Qing Xi blinked her delicate eyes as she said it.
“What a thought. Every Tribe has its own strengths. Do you really think they’d just hand that over to us?”
Qing Bo rolled his eyes and continued, “There is only one way. But… it’s not easy.”
“What way?” Qing Xi asked, curious.
“Take this Tribe for ourselves. Then, our Tribe can simply move here.” Qing Bo said it plainly.
Qing Xi’s delicate vertical pupils went wide. She stared at him. “You got to be joking. Our Tribe may be strong, but… we can’t just do that, you know?”
She felt that the Flame Dragon Tribe was too large. Even with their fill strength, it would be difficult to take over this Tribe.
And besides, there were parts of the Flame Dragon Tribe they still knew nothing about. Acting rashly would be too dangerous.
“Why not? Tribes have always competed with one another. When you see a good Tribe, who doesn’t want it?” Qing Bo said it as though it were obvious.
“We need to understand the situation first. We can’t just act rashly. Who knows what the Flame Dragon Tribe has. What if they’re stronger than us?” Qing Xi said.
“Which is exactly why I’m standing here. We need to understand things properly before anything else.” Qing Bo said.
“Let’s not rush into all of that for now. We need to think about what we’re offering in the exchange first. Otherwise, what do we have to trade with the Flame Dragon Tribe?” Qing Xi asked.
Qing Bo frowned and thought for a long while before answering, “Our Tribe doesn’t have much to offer. Just ordinary dried meat, animal hides, things like that. I doubt they’ll want any of it.”
“I know they won’t, which is why we need to figure something out.” Qing Xi sighed.
“If there’s nothing we can offer, then taking this Tribe is the only path we have. They’ve clearly got extraordinary things here, and those will cost a lot to trade for. We simply don’t have the means.” Qing Bo plainly said.
“Which means we need to study this Tribe even more carefully. Though, I already have a feeling it’s going to be very hard to deal with…” Qing Xi had a bad premonition settling in.
“Of course it will be hard. They seem to have a large number of Totem Warriors, and then there are these fine buildings and roads. It’s… it’s all very difficult to see through.” Qing Bo was equally uneasy.
“What worries me is that their strength might far exceed what we can see. And right now, it’s only the two of us. We have to be careful, more careful than careful.” Qing Xi said with concern.
“We don’t have time to go back and bring reinforcements. At most, we can observe the Flame Dragon Tribe’s situation first and work out what to do after.” Qing Bo said.
“We still haven’t solved the most important problem. When we see the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Shaman, what do we say? What do we actually have to offer?” Qing Xi walked back to her seat.
“I’ve said it already. Nothing. We really have nothing to offer.” Qing Bo spread his hands open.
“All that talk for nothing.” Qing Xi finished speaking and lay back on the bed, still unable to resist enjoying the feeling of the comfortable thing beneath her.
“So, what are we going to do?” Qing Bo asked.
“You don’t have any good ideas yourself, so what can we do? There’ll be nothing to say when we’re face to face with them. Are we supposed to just offer dried meat?” Qing Xi was at a loss.
“Fine. I’ll go and rest. We’ll deal with it as it comes.” Qing Bo said, giving up for now.
“We only have a couple of days. We can’t waste it.” Qing Xi sat up properly and continued, “Should we go and ask the people from the other Tribes? Find out what they’re planning to offer?”
“There’s no need. Every other Tribe has their own advantages. We’re the only ones who don’t.” Qing Bo sighed.
The Green Snake Tribe truly had nothing of particular value to bring. Their only real asset was their own strength.
Qing Bo’s Tribe was one that many Tribes did not dare provoke. Even Large Tribes kept their distance, knowing the outcome would simply be mutual destruction.
This had made the Green Snake Tribe increasingly bold over the years, and they had long since stopped putting other Tribes in their eyes.
The reason they had come to the Flame Dragon Tribe at all was because the goods here had drawn them in. The wine, the linen, the ceramics, all of it was simply too fine.
And most of all, the salt. The Flame Dragon Tribe’s salt was something the Green Snake Tribe had come to deeply crave.
Their Tribe had always eaten food that was flat and without flavour, and they had only ever managed to scrape a little by taking it from other Tribes through force.
But that was not always possible, which made their longing for salt all the more acute.
“Then we deal with it as it comes. See what the Flame Dragon Tribe needs, and figure out what we can offer from there.” Qing Xi said, resigned.
