Chapter 1166, An Important Role

“When did the Shaman prepare all of this?” Yan Hua’s face was full of shock.
Yan Hua had not dared to say a word during the whole of it. Her entire attention had been fixed on those prosthetic limbs.
She had never seen anything like them before. She had certainly never seen a man without legs stand up again.
The sight of the prosthetics attached to Shan Qiu, and then watching him take those first steps, had been genuinely staggering.
“Right, they looked like they took a long time to make. The Shaman must have been preparing them for a while.” Sha Lan said.
Sha Lan had been the same, not daring to speak aloud, all her attention locked on those prosthetics.
Especially after watching Shan Qiu successfully get to his feet, she had doubted her own eyes more than once.
Because it was not a realistic thing. It was something that simply should not have been possible.
“I was preparing for quite a long time. Drawing the designs alone took me around ten days.” Su Bai said, rolling his shoulders.
Fashioning a pair of prosthetic limbs in this Primitive Era was no simple feat.
There were far too many factors to consider. The height of the prosthetics, the range of motion at each joint, the degree of wear resistance. All of it had to be accounted for. This wasn’t like Earth, where precise instruments and measurements existed to produce a perfect pair.
“Uncle Cang Shi must have been so happy. Walking again out of nowhere like that.” Yan Hua said.
She had almost never seen Shan Qiu cry. Not her, not anyone. Yan Jiao had once mentioned it. He had said that when Shan Qiu first lost his legs, he hadn’t cried even then. The strength of Will in the man had left everyone speechless. But the moment he put on the prosthetics, his eyes filled with water immediately. It said everything about how long this had been weighing on him inside.
“Uncle Cang Shi is a powerful Totem Warrior. If he has legs again, our Tribe’s strength grows a little more.” Sha Lan was already thinking ahead to the Dark Scorpion Tribe’s coming attack.
The Tribe’s current strength was considerable. But every additional fighter was one more measure of force.
“I think the same. Even so, I’d rather let him focus on his duties as stonemason. With our Tribe’s current strength, we’re already able to face the Dark Scorpion Tribe.” Su Bai was reasonably confident.
Though other Tribes were now preparing to move against the Flame Dragon Tribe, his focus remained on development.
That said, defence and counter-attack had both been thought through and were underway. That was precisely why he appeared so composed.
“Ah? I thought the Shaman had brought out the prosthetics to put Uncle Cang Shi at the head of a squad of Totem Warriors.” Yan Hua looked mildly puzzled.
“I never thought that. I made a promise to him a long time ago. Besides, this is the sort of thing you either can or can’t accomplish. If you can fulfil someone’s lifelong wish, why wouldn’t you?” Su Bai laughed openly, then continued. “And our Tribe’s preparations are nearly complete. All we’re waiting for now is the enemy.”
“You mean the explosive packages and the rifles we’ve been building? There really have been many of them, and a lot of Totem Warriors have been trained to use them.” Sha Lan said, her expression uncertain. “But can we truly hold our own against the Dark Scorpion Tribe?”
Sha Lan had only seen the rifles and explosive packages used in small-scale engagements. And the numbers involved back then had been far smaller.
Now they were talking about an entire Tribe. Naturally, the worries surfaced.
“You’ll see when the time comes. The firearms team and the explosive package team alone will be enough to end the whole battle. We could even manage zero casualties on our side.” Su Bai’s tone was completely assured. “The recurve bow team finishes off whatever’s left. This battle won’t last long. I’m really looking forward to it.”
He did not want something pressing down on his mind indefinitely. The Dark Scorpion Tribe matter had been sitting there for long enough.
Su Bai only wanted to get it resolved so the Tribe could begin growing properly.
There were several other Tribes he had plans for as well. His thoughts were full of them. He could not allow this one problem to keep blocking the way forward.
“The firearms team numbers thirty. The explosive package team numbers ten. The recurve bow team is larger, with one hundred fighters, half Totem Warriors and half Warrior Trainees.” Sha Lan ticked them off on her fingers. “The long blade team is another hundred, half ordinary people and half Warrior Trainees. When you count it up, we really do seem quite well-placed.”
“That’s obvious enough, given how advanced our weapons are compared to theirs.” Yan Hua’s expression was one of pure confidence. “If it comes to a real fight, we should have an overwhelming advantage. No wonder the Shaman has been so calm. It all makes sense now.”
“All we need to know is when they set out and how many they send. Then we can prepare the appropriate response.” Su Bai tapped a finger on the table. “This time, failure is not an option. We must clear that Tribe out completely. Only then can the Flame Dragon Tribe grow as it should.”
His plan had always been to bring the Flame Dragon Tribe toward something resembling a city. What had kept him from pushing that forward was the Dark Scorpion Tribe.
He wanted this settled. Then the move toward urbanisation could begin. Each Tribe would start shifting toward city life.
He did not want the people here living as primitives any longer. He wanted everyone to begin living something closer to a modern life.
It was a tremendously difficult thing to accomplish. But it was something that needed to be done.
And Su Bai had already produced so many modern things in this Primitive Era. Given time, his vision would find its way to reality.
But first, action was needed. And clearing away whatever stood in the path was also a necessary part of the work.
“Shaman, I could send Ah’Hen out to handle that. It’s extremely hardy and diligent. It can keep watch for us.” Yan Hua said at once.
Her first thought was of her Peak Eagle. She had raised it all this time. It was finally time to put it to use.
“No, keep it with you. You might need it for other things. I’m planning to send the insects from the Coiled Goat Tribe.” Su Bai said.
He had heard their people mention it before. Those insects were capable of scouting.
“Oh, right.” Yan Hua and Sha Lan both said at the same moment, their voices lit with surprise.
They had nearly forgotten about that important role. It made the Flame Dragon Tribe’s prospects feel all the more certain.
