Chapter 6109, Their Enemy
by SilavinAuthor: Silavin
If Yang Ji thought about it logically, having other Humans serve as mounts was not too much of a difference. After all, there was no one to declare that Humans reigned supreme over all other beings. He himself was also technically not a Human but a Phoenix. Though, it had to be said that he greatly preferred his Human Form, so he rarely transformed into his Phoenix Form.
In fact, he could not transform anymore. Not after his cultivation had been stripped from him.
As for the reason, Yang Ji has not pin point it. It could be that this Form of his had been sealed, it could be that he could only transform when he could use Qi. Regardless, he identified more as a Human than as a Phoenix. The same could be said for Yang Xu as well. After all, both grew up in a household where everyone maintained their Human Forms. So, it was only natural they felt themselves to be Human rather than anything else.
So, it made sense why Yang Ji got bothered by the scene in front of him.
However, unbeknownst to Yang Ji, such scenes were not at all rare. Rather, they were all too common and he should prepare himself for an even tougher time.
Xing Ting noticed Yang Ji’s reaction and saw it as natural.
If anyone saw their own kind being treated as lowly slaves, would they not be taken aback? So, her hand was already poised to push Yang Ji forward at that moment.
Even as they got into the carriage, Xing Ting’s hand had never left Yang Ji. This not only to make him continue moving, it was also to protect him.
Once they got inside the carriage, Xing Ting quickly instructed the accompanying guard to have the carriage move directly to the Revitalisation Inn. She even gave him a bag for his troubles.
The guard, seeing and weighing the bag, quickly followed her instructions. Even if this guard was acting as a spy, he was far too weak. A grunt without strength had to take whatever they could in such situations. Therefore, Xing Ting had given him an amount which he had to quickly act. An amount that he would feel unnerved to carry around with him in broad daylight.
And, as expected, the carriage started moving at the very next instant. Even if Xing Ting did not make sure of that, the guard would certainly do so to quickly ‘seal the deal’. He would deeply regret it if Xing Ting had thought she had made a mistake, giving him too much and wanted some of it back.
Once they got moving, Xing Ting was quick to act, closing all the windows. She even took out what seemed to be pieces of paper with Runes on them, and placed them on all four sides of the carriage. She even sat next to Yang Ji, in chase of any sudden attacks, having one arm on him at all times in case they needed to manoeuvre.
Wu Lun even praised, “This is how you should act when in the Upper Realm.”
“You say that, but I can’t even use those Artifacts. I can’t even use my Qi, after all.” Yang Ji quipped, though his eyes were certainly glued to those Runes.
“Those are talismans. They exist in the 3,000 Worlds too, but are rarely in use because the Dao that supports them is too flawed. You said you are interested in Runes, right? This is one of its applications. Just staring at them won’t help you though. You can write the same thing, the exact same way, but unless you can imprint your understanding of the Rune, it will not function.” Wu Lun took the time to explain and reminded, “So, stop gawking like an eagle stalking its prey. At least blink a little. Looking at it a thousand times won’t help unless you can see and comprehend the intent behind those Runes. Besides it being an obscure Dao in the first place, true experts of this craft would hide their intent with traps.”
Yang Ji calmed down a little after listening to Wu Lun, he asked, “Then, I can’t learn it without someone there to teach me?”
Wu Lun paused for a moment, as though trying to judge which response would be best. However, he chose to be forthright here, “Not exactly. The True Dao is there for all. Like how ancient knowledge is created, you can find out the truth of the world on your own. Having a Master in this would speed up the process, but it is not like you can’t figure it out on your own.”
Wu Lun then followed with a warning, “But, during that time spent, would it not be better to focus on your own cultivation rather than to mess around with this obscure Dao?”
Yang Ji thought for a moment, then slightly shook his head. “No. I want to learn this Dao as well. I’ve watched my Father, Mother and Aunts and Uncles use Space Principles and Time Principles. From that, Yang Xu and I managed to figure out the Dao of Space and the Dao of Time. I might not have the same affinity to the True Dao of Runes, but I believe I can do it.”
Wu Lun, having already said his part, no longer warned Yang Ji any longer. Since this child has decided, what more was there to add?
Xing Ting, who noticed Yang Ji shaking his head a little, asked, “What’s wrong?”
Yang Ji, a little taken aback by this sudden address, was quick to ask, “Hmm… I was looking at those talismans you’ve placed on the walls. Did you make them?”
“No.” The response was short, swift and decisive, making Yang Ji feel like he was sitting on pins and needles. It was cold to the point Yang Ji decided to just say silent and study the Runes some more.
…
*Tap tap tap*
There were a few gentle taps from outside the carriage, indicating to them that they had arrived. Yang Ji was quick to notice that if such gentle force or sound could come through, then what was the use of those talismans?
He was also not allowed to study further and Xing Ting quickly kept those talismans back and the world turned dark.
Xing Ting soon left the carriage with Yang Ji in tow. ‘In tow’ as in she was actually carrying Yang Ji this time.
Before they left the carriage, Xing Ting had knocked Yang Ji out. She wanted to carry Yang Ji from here on out, since if they were to meet with any danger, she would be able to react quicker with him on her. If not, having Yang Ji sleep would allow her to blend in better. After all, if a child was sleeping, it made perfect sense for the adult to carry them to a bed.
However, unbeknownst to her, Yang Ji had a natural quick recovery speed and a Physique that was unlike any other child. He had reached the Dao Source Realm before, after all. Even without his cultivation, his Physique could not be underestimated, and much less could be knocked out cold like she had expected.
Midway to the room, Yang Ji was about to open his eyes when Wu Lun warned him, “Don’t open your eyes just yet. I’ll tell you when you can open them. Just let her carry you and just continue pretending to sleep.”
Yang Ji, seeing no reason to disobey, continued the act.
He and his Sister had much experience in this. Otherwise, how could he trick his baby sitters, Yang Xiao or Yang Xue, and escape from Starry Sky Palace?
Yang Ji did wonder why he was being asked to do this, and his question was answered soon enough.
A sudden wave of intense aura could be felt. Yang Ji could keenly feel it, but he continued pretending to be asleep.
Footsteps were then heard. Though there were already footsteps all around Yang Ji, he could keenly feel that the owner of these footsteps was different. Soon, the first voice to speak was Xing Ting, “Greetings, Sir.”
The aura, which seemed to initially focus on Yang Ji, soon only focused on Xing Ying, which gave Yang Ji more room to breathe.
“En. Seems like small Niece has fallen asleep after such a long journey. In that case, I shall not disturb her any further. By the way, where is Hong Jun? Why isn’t he with you two?” A deep male voice rang out in response. It was an emotionless voice, which seemed to harbour little regard to life itself.
Yang Ji, being carried, could feel Xing Ting’s heart rate rise, along with faint trembling.
“Sir Hong Jun has stayed behind to take care of our luggage. We met with misfortune along the way. But have no worries, Sir. There will be no issues to the Young Mistress’ safety.” Xing Ting said and a heavy silence soon pervaded the place. It felt like if a pin dropped, everyone there would be able to hear it.
This deafening silence continued for a while before the man finally gave a nod, along with a simple, “I see” and walked away.
Xing Ting, not one to waste an opportunity. She quickly gave a bow as he moved across the aisle and moved on, hurrying to escape from his gaze once his back was turned.
Swiftly, she navigated through the inn and found their quarters, not even waiting for the attendant that was supposed to lead them to the room.
Xing Ting quickly closed the door and activated the Isolation Array, making sure no one would disturb them.
She placed Yang Ji down on the bed and heaved a huge sigh. Even without Yang Ji looking, he could tell that her thoughts must be racing at this moment.
He could not help but ask, “Wu Lun, you asked me to continue pretending to be asleep, right? You knew that man was approaching, and he had something to do with that Young Mistress.”
Wu Lun, seemingly gave a nod. This time, he explained, though he did not go too much into details about himself. “Of course. Like what you’ve heard, that man is her Uncle. This is a Family feud, and that man is their enemy. Simple enough, right?”
“Huh? Are you saying that an Uncle is trying to harm his blood-related Niece?” Yang Ji was a little taken aback by this.
Wu Lun rolled his eyes, “This brat. Ah, you’re too sheltered. Many people are willing to stab another person in the back. What does one’s blood have anything to do with it? I’m sure it is all peaceful in the Family you live in, but not all Families are like that. This has nothing to do with the Upper Realm or Lower Realm. There are just people who are willing to dirty their hands if it means gaining some benefits. That’s all there is to it.”
“But, this is his Brother’s Daughter we are talking about.” Yang Ji could not wrap his head around how another person would be willing to go so far as to harm a kin.
“*Tch* You are realistic and mature in some areas, but not in others, huh? Though, I guess with you being born with such a strong connection to your Sister, you can’t really comprehend the thoughts of true bastards of the world, seeing as to how you are willing to sacrifice your own cultivation for her sake, when to others, this might seem no different to a death sentence.” Wu Lun took a deep breath and continued, “You’ve been born with plenty, such that you do not understand the painful desire of those that starve. You noticed the blood on the floor of the outer region, correct?”
Yang Ji affirmed.
“In that case, if there is blood, where do you think the bodies are?” Wu Lun coldly said a question that struck Yang Ji like a bolt of lightning.
