Near the entrance to the dining room.
Clad in the Azalea Academy girls’ uniform. Cyan was pumping herself up for what she was about to do. Watching her, Lady Violet and I couldn’t help feeling anxious.
“…Are you really going, Cyan?”
“Of course I’m going. Thanks for lending me your clothes, Io.”
“Well, that’s fine, but…”
If you’re wondering why Cyan was wearing a school uniform, the reason is entirely because I egged her on.
Personally, I only meant something along the lines of, ‘dressing up a bit differently is a great way to get someone’s attention’, but somewhere inside Cyan’s head, it apparently got translated into, ‘men are helpless against school uniforms…’?!. I mean, sure, I guess working could have been better.
Unfortunately, Lady Kriemhild and the others hadn’t brought their uniforms along. But, since Cyan and Lady Violet are around the same height, she ended up borrowing Lady Violet’s uniform instead…
“Lord Kuro, is Cyan going to be alright? I adjusted the skirt to the length from back when I attended the academy, but, um… Cyan is just…”
Lady Violet stepped closer to me, lowering her voice so Cyan couldn’t hear.
I could see why she was worried. The standard Azalea Academy girls’ uniform features a skirt. Since uniform modifications are permitted within reason, students are pretty much free to choose their own skirt length, unless they go completely overboard. Lady Violet had never worn hers particularly short, so it was definitely on the longer side compared to what Ms.Kriemhild or Ms.Mary usually wore… But the real problem lay elsewhere.
“Hmm, to be honest, it’s more breezy than usual. It’s easier to move around in, but I need to be a little more careful.”
The thing is, since Cyan was adhering to the doctrine, she was not wearing underwear. To put it bluntly, this was riskier than a habit with a thigh-high slit.
“…Knowing her, it’s not like she’d actually put any on if we told her now anyway. Let’s just cover for her as best we can.”
“…Good point.”
Besides, Cyan is deeply devoted to her faith, so saying anything now would be pointless. It’s not like she’d make an exception ‘just this once.’ That’s just how stubbornly earnest she is. Though, if she were actually that serious about her faith, you’d think she wouldn’t have put a thigh-high slit in her nun’s habit in the first place, but let’s not talk about that right now.
“A-a-a-a-alright, I’m going. I just need to make a quick appearance, have a quick conversation, get a quick opinion, and then quickly give him a hug. Hehehehe, it’ll be fine. I can do it. Otherwise, he’ll be taken away, so I should be able to do it…!”
Listening to her unsettled display of ‘enthusiasm,’ Lady Violet and I exchanged a glance and silently nodded to one another. Whatever happens, happens. There was turning back now.
“Alright—let’s go!”
Suppressing the urge to yell, ‘Where exactly do you think you’re going in that state?!’ The two of us followed closely behind Cyan, whose movements were stiff as a board.
…Wait, a sudden thought struck me. When Lady Violet and I get all flustered and can barely talk to each other, do people look at us the same way we’re looking at Cyan right now? …Yeah, looking at this, I guess I really can’t blame anyone for teasing us.
Anyway, since I was the one who instigated this in the first place, I resolved myself to back her up as much as possible. I also made a mental note to apologize to Lady Violet later for dragging her into this mess.
With those thoughts in mind, we finally stepped into the dining room. And the sight that greeted us was—
“Ah.”
“Eh?”
“Wait, Cyan?”
“Father?”
It was Ms. Mary backing Father into a corner.
They were standing unusually very close.
…Uh, what is even happening right now? I have no idea what the context is here, but did the Father actually turn out to be exactly Ms. Mary’s type or something?
Otherwise, if they’re just chatting, there is absolutely no reason for them to be standing this close, faces practically touching, with Ms. Mary looking at him with intense interest—yeah, this is totally going to be a battlefield. We might be missing the actual generals, but there is no avoiding the bloodbath.
“Oh, Cyan, you look cute in an uniform—“
“Fatheeeeeeeer!!”
“Y-yes?!”
Completely tuning out Ms.Kriemhild’s adorable remark, Cyan shouted.
Her voice was at a volume and pitch she would never normally use in front of the Father. Ditching all pretense of composure, her face twisted in sheer panic as she lunged forward, wedging herself directly between the Father and Ms. Mary to force them apart.
She then whipped around to face the Father. Everyone in the room, especially the Father himself, was completely bewildered, eyes blinking in total shock.
“Father! What do you think of me in this outfit?!”
“Huh? Oh, uh… Since you usually wear a habit and your casual clothes are always pants, seeing you in a short skirt is a breath of fresh air. You look really cute, Cyan.”
“Thank you very much!”
Ah, normally just hearing those words would make her blush so hard she wouldn’t even be able to speak. But right now, Cyan is so completely blinded by panic that she’s totally oblivious to her surroundings… Should I stop her? Then again, if I tried to step in now, she’d probably unleash a punch or kick at full power at me. A Kick would be especially dangerous.
“Father, there’s actually something I’ve wanted to tell you for a while now!’
“I-is that so? What might it be—Cyan?!’
In her current state of mind, Cyan probably didn’t even realize what she was doing. She lunged forward and forcefully clamped both of her hands over the Father’s.
Under normal circumstances, she’d be way too paralyzed with nerves to even dream of brushing against him, making this a shockingly bold power move.
“I’m so nervous because I want to say what’s on my mind! Can you hear my heart pounding right now?!”
“Y-yeah, Cyan. I understand that you’re nervous, so please calm down a little—“
“No, no! Father, you don’t understand my nervousness at all! Specifically, I would say your estimate is off by roughly a trillion light-years!”
“A trillion light-years?!”
To top it all off, her hyperbole didn’t even make any sense contextually. That’s ten to the power of… fifty-six, was it? The number is so astronomically massive that it probably loops right back around to being close.
Completely ignoring our utter bewilderment, Cyan’ kept right on barreling forward—
“So please listen carefully to my heartbeat!”
“Huh, what are you—ngh!?!”
After suddenly letting go of the Father’s hands, Cyan reached behind his head, pulled him forward, and buried his face straight into her chest.
………What the hell is she doing?!
