“Aren’t you on good terms with Shui Yuan? Supposedly, you should take care of people from the Crimson Blood Sect. What are you up to?” The man in tight-fitting clothes was puzzled.
“Yes, I’m friends with her, but we’re in Grand Sky City, and this is the Ministry of Orders. How can I neglect my military duties and favour someone because of a friend?” the woman said matter-of-factly.
The man chuckled. “You almost fooled me.”
“Whatever.”
Suddenly, intense fluctuations of Spiritual Powers were felt coming from outside the hall, and then someone shouted, “How dare you!”
Spiritual Powers clashed and Spirit Artifacts clanged with each other. Following that, one figure rushed into the hall, followed by two people.
Shocked, the man in tight-fitting clothes looked at Lu Ye, who was barging into the hall with a saber, and he blurted, “He’s got some gall!”
They were in the Ministry of Orders in Grand Sky City. No one had had the guts to barge into this place like this before.
What was even more astonishing was that Lu Ye actually managed to do that. One had to know that the two people guarding the entrance were fairly powerful, but they were unable to stop Lu Ye at all.
Meanwhile, Lu Ye looked ahead and saw the man and the woman. He was shocked to find how powerful they were.
It was apparent to him that they were both Divine Ocean Realm Masters.
He wondered which one of them was the Commander of the Ministry of Orders and which one was the guest.
Anyway, he had been waiting outside for a long time, but the Commander still didn’t have any intention of seeing him. Obviously, the other party was making things difficult for him.
As such, he understood that it was pointless for him to keep waiting outside. In that case, he decided to force his way into the hall.
He turned his hand over and lifted a bronze token, which was sent to the Crimson Blood Sect by Zhao Che a while back. Then, he shouted, “I’m Lu Ye from Crimson Blood Sect. I’m here to report for duty!”
The two cultivators who had followed him into the hall were furious and fearful. One of them said, “Please forgive us, Commander. He…”
“Run along.”
“Yes!”
Embarrassed, the two cultivators shot Lu Ye a resentful look before leaving in a hurry.
Only then did Lu Ye glance at the charming woman clad in an imperial dress, for she was the Commander of the Ministry of Orders.
The woman got to her feet and slowly approached Lu Ye before stopping in her tracks around 10 metres away from him. She sported an inscrutable expression.
“I’m Lu Ye from Crimson Blood Sect. I’m here to report for duty!” Lu Ye shouted again.
The woman raised her hand and drew the bronze token from Lu Ye. Then, she tossed it into the basket on the table beside her. That way, it could be considered that Lu Ye had reported for duty.
“You’re pretty bold, aren’t you?” She snorted.
“The deadline was about to be due, and I was anxiously waiting outside. Please forgive me, Commander!”
“So you just barged in?”
“I had no other choice.”
“You had no other choice?” The woman seemed to be fuming as her aura as a Divine Ocean Realm Master spread. Instantly, Lu Ye felt immensely pressured as his forehead was beaded with sweat.
She said icily, “I don’t care what position you hold in Crimson Blood Sect or what you’ve done before. Since you’re in Grand Sky City, you must obey our rules. Has nobody told you this before?”
“My Senior Sister has told me this.”
“In that case, why don’t you keep that in mind? If everyone was as reckless as you, Bing Zhou Watch would disintegrate.” She turned to look at the man in tight-fitting clothes. “Qian Wudang! You’re the Commander of the Ministry of Laws. Since this man has barged into an important place without permission, how should we deal with him?”
The man named Qian Wudang donned a solemn expression and said grimly, “According to the rules, he should be killed.”
Lu Ye arched his brow. [Are they going to kill me just like this?]
Amber, which was crouching on Lu Ye’s shoulder, growled at the woman, who flicked the tiger’s forehead and silenced it.
Then, in a slightly milder tone, Qian Wudang said, “Since it’s his first time making a mistake, he’ll be whipped and confined for ten days as a punishment instead. If he makes a mistake again, he’ll be punished severely.”
Finally, he understood what the woman was up to. That was indeed a good idea.
The woman shot him an impassive look. “Since you, the Commander of the Ministry of Laws, have spoken, I’ll let you handle him.” She then turned around and left.
Qian Wudang nodded and approached Lu Ye with a smile. “You’re pretty unlucky, brat. Come with me.”
He then shuffled out of the hall.
Lu Ye had no choice but to follow him.
He initially thought that after he joined Bing Zhou Watch, he would be able to make a contribution. However, before he even officially joined the organisation, he was punished.
In that situation, it wasn’t like he had a choice. The Commander of the Ministry of Orders apparently wanted to make things difficult for him. If he hadn’t barged into the hall and missed the deadline, it would’ve been troublesome.
In comparison, the punishment was no big deal.
Certainly, Lu Ye wouldn’t forget about the grudge. He would get his revenge sooner or later.
As for whether he should run away, he might not have the chance to do so. Even if there was a chance, he wouldn’t do such a thing to embarrass his Sect.
Running away from one’s duty was a taboo in Bing Zhou Watch.
Qian Wudang, who was walking ahead, suddenly said, “Brat, things aren’t as simple as they seem, and some people are different from what you think. Since you’re young and new to Grand Sky City, it’s only normal that you can’t see through many things. You’ll figure it out soon.”
Lu Ye remained silent and followed him.
Although the Commander of the Ministry of Laws didn’t seem to have any malicious intentions against Lu Ye and had even given him a lighter punishment, it was a mystery as to whether he was a friend or a foe. Since Lu Ye knew nothing about this place, he’d better say less and observe more.
“Not bad. You’re pretty careful.” As though knowing what was on his mind, Qian Wudang didn’t mind it and only put on a faint smile.
They crossed half of Grand Sky City and landed somewhere.
There was something that looked like a mound. The entrance looked like the hideous head of a beast made from stone with its mouth wide open. The inside was dark and gave off a horrifying feeling.
It was a prison in Grand Sky City. It was also the place that terrified all the sentries. It was said that if one entered this place, he would suffer terribly, and he would be considered lucky if he even survived.
There were many sentries, and they were supposed to obey orders and follow the rules. However, some cultivators would still break the rules for various reasons.
The cultivators who had made mistakes would be sent to this place to be punished.
All the sentries wouldn’t go near this place. Even when they were flying overhead, they would avoid it.
“Why are you here, Commander?”
Upon seeing Qian Wudang, the cultivators guarding the place were surprised. An old man hurriedly approached him.
“I’m here to pass this guy to you.” Qian Wudang picked up Lu Ye, who had been curiously looking around behind him, and he placed the man in front of him as if the latter was a chick.
The old man was stunned.
Over the years, countless sentries had been sent to this prison, but it was the first time the Commander had personally sent someone to this place.
Surprised, the old man asked, “What has this man done, Commander?”
He instinctively thought that Lu Ye must have done something atrocious. Otherwise, the Commander wouldn’t have personally come to this place. At that moment, the old man imagined many horrible images in his mind, and he looked at Lu Ye with a grim expression.
“Nothing much. He didn’t know the rules and barged into the Ministry of Orders,” Qian Wudang explained nonchalantly.
“Well…” The old man was lost for words as he looked sympathetically at Lu Ye.
Barging into the Ministry of Orders wasn’t exactly a serious crime. Surely, Qian Wudang happened to be there and decided to send Lu Ye to this prison.
“I’ll pass him to you. Take good care of him,” Qian Wudang ordered and shot into the sky.
“Goodbye, Commander.” The old man received the order and saluted Qian Wudang along with the other cultivators.
After Qian Wudang was gone, the old man turned to glance at Lu Ye and extended his hand with a smile. “This way, Little Friend.”
“Thanks.” Lu Ye nodded and headed towards the huge beast’s mouth before disappearing into the darkness.
He then followed the old man to move downwards. The environment was dark and damp.
Soon, they arrived at the lowest floor. There were two rows of cages to which many cultivators were confined. Most of them appeared battered from all sorts of punishments. Some of them were gasping for air, and their vitalities were weak.
The old man said with a smile, “A prison is where people who have broken the rules are confined, so it’s unlike the environment you’re used to. However, rules are to be followed. Since they’ve broken the rules, they’re supposed to be punished. Take it as an eye-opening experience for you so that you’ll be more careful with everything you do in the future. We have very strict rules here. If you make a mistake, your Sect won’t be able to help.”
“Thanks for the advice, Old Sir.” Certainly, Lu Ye would heed the old man’s advice. The sight before his eyes showed him how strict the rules were within Bing Zhou Watch.
Lu Ye reminded himself that if he broke the rules here, the Sect Master wouldn’t be able to save him.
“Not all the prisoners are Cloud River Realm Masters. If you go further inside, you’ll see Real Lake Realm Masters. There were also Divine Ocean Realm Masters in the past,” the old man said.
“How will I be punished?” Lu Ye was more concerned about himself than other people.
“You’ll be whipped three times and confined for ten days.” The old man didn’t hide anything from Lu Ye. Qian Wudang had told him what the punishment was before he left.
Lu Ye dipped his head.
Although he wasn’t a Body-tempering Cultivator, he had a robust body. Therefore, he was fine with getting whipped three times. As for getting confined for ten days, there wouldn’t be a problem.
Suddenly, the old man put on an eerie grin. “Do you think the punishment is light, Little Friend?”
“No.”
Out of nowhere, someone was heard yelling, “It’s not like I’m afraid of getting whipped. Just whip me hard. If I even let out a sound, you can call me a wimp!”
The old man shook his head. “There are always people who don’t know how severe things are.”
They soon reached a place where prisoners were punished. Lu Ye lifted his gaze and saw a bald, stocky guy who was hung in mid-air with his hands and legs tied.
The man growled, “I told you to just whip me. Why did you even hang me here? I’m a Real Lake Realm Master! I deserve some respect!”
“Alright. Cut the crap. I’m going to whip you now. Hold on!”
“Come on!” the stocky man said provocatively.
The sound of breaking through the air was heard. With a slap, the long whip struck the stocky man.
Lu Ye felt his eyelids twitching. Suddenly, he had the urge to unsheathe his sword and force his way out of this place.
That was because the moment the whip struck, the stocky man, who was in the Real Lake Realm, was seen with his eyes rolled up and quivering uncontrollably. It was as though he was going through some excruciating pain.
It wasn’t until five breaths of time later that he came to his senses and shrieked.
