It would be fine if Lu Ye wasn’t the culprit. What the law enforcers did was offensive, and the members of Team A5 had offended many people over the years. It was inevitable that some people were resentful of them and would try to attack them to vent their fury.
However, if it was Lu Ye’s doing, how were they supposed to tell the Commander about it?
Could they say that Zhou Kui, a Body-tempering Cultivator in the Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm, was defeated by a Combat Cultivator in the Fifth Order when the members of Team A5 were around?
If word got out, it would show that Team A5 was useless, and it would also be humiliating for Zhou Kui.
When Zhou Kui heard the Spell Cultivator’s words, a myriad of expressions came over him. A moment later, he ordered, “Return to Grand Sky City!”
He wouldn’t mind getting humiliated as long as he could get Lu Ye punished.
In the Ministry of Laws’ main hall, a speechless Qian Wudang glanced at Lu Ye. “Does it still taste good to you?”
Lu Ye had consumed three cups of tea. When he was done drinking, he would fill the cup with tea himself as though he were at his own home.
“It tastes good.”
A helpless Qian Wudang rubbed his forehead. “If you like the tea, take some tea leaves with you when you go back.”
“Thanks, Sir.” Lu Ye expressed his gratitude.
Suddenly, heavy footsteps were heard approaching. A moment later, a towering figure in blood-soaked clothes stepped into the hall.
When Qian Wudang lifted his head and saw how battered Zhou Kui was, his expression darkened. “What happened?”
It was apparent that Zhou Kui had been beaten up. Moreover, the attacker had used a Spirit Artifact. His wounds were caused by a weapon. The shoe mark on his face was conspicuous and comical as someone must’ve landed a kick on his face.
Zhou Kui was a Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm Master. As such, the person who could badly injure him was probably a Divine Ocean Realm Master.
Qian Wudang subconsciously thought that a Divine Ocean Realm Master from Grand Sky City had attacked Zhou Kui.
After all, Zhou Kui was his subordinate who had performed well in the past few years. Even if he had made a mistake, he would be punished by the Commander of the Ministry of Laws. No one else could interfere and do that.
“Please stand up for me, Commander,” Zhou Kui said grimly while cupping his fists. He looked away in embarrassment. “I was attacked around 200 kilometres away from the city.”
“Who did that?” Qian Wudang asked icily while fuming within.
It was outrageous that someone even attacked his subordinate. He swore that regardless of which Divine Ocean Realm Master did that, he would demand an explanation from that person.
Attacking his subordinate was no different from humiliating him and the Ministry of Laws. There was no way he would put up with it.
“Lu Yi Ye!” Zhou Kui said through clenched teeth as he looked even more embarrassed. After all, it took a lot of courage for him to admit that he, a Ninth-Order Master, was defeated by a Fifth-Order Master like Lu Ye.
However, as long as he could get Lu Ye punished, the sacrifice would be worth it.
A startled Qian Wudang looked behind Zhou Kui. Over there, Lu Ye was seated cross-legged in a chair while sipping tea.
As their eyes met, Lu Ye appeared puzzled.
“What did you say?” Qian Wudang frowned.
“It was Lu Yi Ye who attacked me. We got into a fight at Hundred Fragrance Restaurant several days ago.”
“When did the attack happen?” Qian Wudang probed further.
“Around 15 minutes ago.”
“What nonsense are you spouting?” A familiar voice was suddenly heard coming from behind, followed by some footsteps. Zhou Kui turned around and saw Lu Ye approaching him with a teacup.
“Why are you here?” Zhou Kui glared at him. He was eager to report the incident to Qian Wudang earlier, so he didn’t notice someone was behind him.
“Why can’t I be here?” Lu Ye snorted. He put down the teacup on Qian Wudang’s desk and cupped his fists. “Sir, Zhou Kui is wrongly accusing me of something I’ve never done. Please stand up for me.”
Zhou Kui directly grabbed Lu Ye’s collars and bellowed, “It was you! Do you think I couldn’t figure it out?”
Lu Ye didn’t resist as he turned to look at Qian Wudang. “Look, Sir. He’s even ready to attack me right in front of you. How can he behave recklessly? Please allow me to teach him a lesson on your behalf to uphold our rules.”
“Release him!” Qian Wudang demanded with a dark expression.
Naturally, Zhou Kui wouldn’t dare to disobey his order. He quickly released Lu Ye and said grimly, “Please forgive me for acting inappropriately, Sir. It’s just that this brat has crossed the line!”
Lu Ye smoothed his wrinkled collars and calmly remained in the same spot.
Qian Wudang glanced at Zhou Kui and asked solemnly, “Did you just say Lu Yi Ye attacked you around 15 minutes ago?”
“Yes,” Zhou Kui replied seriously. “After I took on a task from the Hunting Pavilion, I led my team to leave Grand Sky City. Around 200 kilometres away from the city, this guy appeared out of nowhere and caught me off guard. Please look at my injury, Sir. It’s all his doing. He was bold and reckless enough to attempt to kill a colleague. Please stand up for me, Sir!”
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about.” Lu Ye snorted.
“Dare you say it’s not your doing?” Zhou Kui glowered at him. “Do you think you can fool the Commander by coming to this place after attacking me? The Commander is intelligent, so he can easily get to the truth.”
“It wasn’t me, of course.” Lu Ye looked at Zhou Kui like the latter was a fool. “I know you’re resentful of me and eager to get revenge because you suffered a setback several days ago, but you shouldn’t have used such a despicable move.” He then turned to glance at Qian Wudang. “Sir, this guy is slandering me and accusing me of wrongdoing I’ve never committed for no reason. Please punish him for me.”
Qian Wudang was annoyed by their bickering. He gaped at Zhou Kui. “Did you see him attacking you?”
Zhou Kui replied, “He was wearing a face mask, so I couldn’t see his face. However, that person had the same figure and cultivation as Lu Yi Ye. I had an exchange of moves with him and could confirm that the person was Lu Yi Ye.”
“It wasn’t him,” Qian Wudang said.
Zhou Kui’s fury turned into shock as he looked at Qian Wudang in puzzlement.
“He’s been staying here for an hour and has finished drinking three cups of tea. If you were attacked 15 minutes ago, it wasn’t him.”
Zhou Kui was dumbfounded. If someone else had told him that, he wouldn’t have believed it. However, he wouldn’t dare to doubt the Commander.
“That’s impossible!” he barked.
[The person who had attacked me was Lu Yi Ye. There’s no way it wasn’t him. Who else could the person be if it wasn’t Lu Yi Ye?] Since they had been in close-quarters combat, Zhou Kui was confident about the person’s identity.
“Are you saying I’m lying to you?” Qian Wudang stared icily at him.
Zhou Kui shuddered and hurriedly said, “I would never dare.” Suddenly thinking of something, he turned to look at Lu Ye. “If you weren’t the one attacking me, do you have the guts to make a Heavenly Oath?”
They would get to the truth with the Heavenly Oath’s help.
“What right do you have to make me do that?” Lu Ye sneered. “Why would I need to make a Heavenly Oath when the Commander is my witness?”
“You’re the culprit if you refuse to make a Heavenly Oath!”
“You’ve been taught a lesson because you’ve done so many terrible things. It’s laughable that you’re blaming it on me!”
Seeing that Zhou Kui was about to say more, Qian Wudang landed a slap on the desk. “That’s enough!”
It was so inappropriate that they were arguing in the main hall. Zhou Kui and Lu Ye kept their mouths shut in an instant.
“Stop harping on this issue, Zhou Kui. I said it wasn’t him.”
Zhou Kui parted his lips but couldn’t say a word. In the end, he said, “Yes.”
[Was it not him? Who else could it be, then?] At that moment, Zhou Kui started doubting himself.
After giving it some thought, he reckoned that Lu Ye couldn’t possibly be so powerful when the latter was only a Fifth-Order Master. He was powerless to counterattack during the brief exchange of moves. No Fifth-Order Master was capable of achieving that.
[Did a Divine Ocean Realm Master conceal his cultivation and teach me a lesson?]
Zhou Kui felt his chest tightening. He wanted to find out who the culprit was, but he was clueless.
While he was deep in thought, Lu Ye seized the chance to flare up. “Sir, Zhou Kui is slandering me because he’s resentful of me. If not for you, I wouldn’t have been able to explain myself. How are we going to uphold the rules if someone from the Ministry of Laws can slander and accuse a colleague of wrongdoing without any evidence? If this goes on, the Ministry of Laws won’t have any reputation left. Sir, please punish him severely to show everyone that we’re righteous!”
“You…” Zhou Kui glowered at him. He didn’t expect to fail in his attempt to hold Lu Ye accountable. Much to his chagrin, Lu Ye flared up and claimed that his action had tarnished the Ministry of Laws’ reputation. Suddenly, Zhou Kui had a premonition.
Qian Wudang shot Lu Ye a look. He wasn’t willing to see the matter escalating into a big fuss. After all, Zhou Kui had been beaten up, and Lu Ye had lost nothing. He hoped that the matter could be resolved just like this.
However, since Lu Ye had said so, it would be inappropriate if Qian Wudang refused to punish Zhou Kui. After all, Zhou Kui had indeed slandered and wrongly accused Lu Ye of a crime.
“How do you think he should be punished, then?”
Lu Ye replied grimly, “Since you’re the Commander of the Ministry of Laws, I’ll always obey your orders and respect your decisions, Sir.”
Qian Wudang glared at him, thinking that Lu Ye was cunning. He then turned to look at Zhou Kui. “Since you’ve made a scene and accused a colleague of wrongdoing without evidence, I’ll deduct one month of your salary, and you’ll be whipped ten times in prison. Do you have any objections, Zhou Kui?”
Naturally, Zhou Kui wouldn’t dare to object to it. He hung his head low and listlessly cupped his fists. “I’m willing to be punished, Sir.”
“You may leave now.” Qian Wudang waved his hand.
A dejected Zhou Kui turned around. It wasn’t because he was about to be punished, though. Instead, he was thinking that if Lu Ye wasn’t the culprit, who was the Divine Ocean Realm Master teaching him a lesson?
It felt terrible that someone had targeted him. What was more, the person was a Divine Ocean Realm Master.
“Don’t carry out any task for the time being. Get some rest and recuperate,” Qian Wudang ordered.
“Yes,” Zhou Kui replied.
After he was gone, Qian Wudang turned to look at Lu Ye. “Are you happy now?”
Lu Ye cupped his fists. “You’re impartial, Sir. You’re a role model we all should learn from. I’ll stop bothering you and take my leave.”
