The temperature inside the crater was extremely high. The lava was boiling and the bubbles burst loudly.

In such a hostile environment, if a Real Lake Realm Master accidentally fell into it, he would be badly wounded if not killed.

Lu Ye looked around and leapt into it while activating his Spiritual Power to protect himself.

His cultivation technique and Spiritual Power were of Fire Attribute. Compared with other cultivators, he could better resist such an environment. Therefore, even though the environment was terrible, he was generally fine.

The crater was 300 metres deep. Lu Ye reached the bottom and stopped. Then, he found a suitable spot and created a resting place with his Inviolable Saber.

Only when the resting place was formed did Lu Ye activate the Tree of Glyphs to protect himself.

In an instant, he no longer felt hot. Besides that, he could also feel that the heat energy around him was getting absorbed by the Tree of Glyphs and turning into its fuel.

He blessed his eyes with Insight and could clearly see many roots around him. These were the roots of the Tree of Glyphs which protected him from the scorching heat.

In Ameliorate Arcane Glade back then, Huo Liaoyuan of Cult Blackfyre summoned a Deathmatch Platform and tried to kill him. However, regardless of how powerful the spells that he cast, Lu Ye could easily fend them off.

It was mainly thanks to the Tree of Glyphs. With the Tree’s protection, average Fire-Attribute spells could never hurt him.

Certainly, it had something to do with the fact that Huo Liaoyuan wasn’t powerful enough. Although Huo Liaoyuan was more powerful than Lu Ye at that time, they were still in the same Realm, after all. As such, the Tree of Glyphs could help ward off the Fire-Attribute spells.

If there was a huge gap between their powers, the Tree of Glyphs wouldn’t be useful.

As the Tree of Glyphs had been activated, more and more heat energy was getting absorbed by the Tree. Lu Ye looked into his mind and saw some transformation to the leaves that were yet to be set ablaze.

He felt exultant to see what was about to happen.

The Glyph had taken shape two to three months ago, but so far, Lu Ye had yet to set it ablaze, nor did he know what the Glyph was about.

Now that he had such a suitable environment, he could ignite the Glyph if he had sufficient time. Perhaps he might get even more benefits out of it.

Time passed by slowly. While seated cross-legged, Lu Ye activated the Tree of Glyphs to absorb the heat energy around him and refined the medicinal efficacies of Spirit Pills.

He couldn’t delay cultivating his power. In the Real Lake Realm, he had a much greater need for Spiritual Power. Unlike in the Cloud River Realm, it was now much harder for him to achieve an ascension.

Soon, Lu Ye knitted his brows together. That was because he realised that the speed of the leaves getting burned was slow. The situation proved that his speculation was right. Although this place was scorching and the heat energy was everywhere, the quality wasn’t good.

Previously, Mystic Flames and Core Flames were given to the Tree of Glyphs for consumption. Although the amount wasn’t a lot, the quality was assured. As such, the leaves could be ignited quickly.

In comparison, the quality of the heat energy here was ordinary. Considering the speed, it would take one to two days before the Glyph would be fully ablaze.

After giving it some thought, Lu Ye looked down at the boiling lava. If he could let the roots of the Tree of Glyphs expand into the lava, the situation might improve.

He wouldn’t say the quality of the heat energy would improve, but he would have access to a massive amount of it at the very least.

The Tree of Glyphs had been with him for years. Ever since he accidentally activated its power for the first time, he had accumulated some experience in using its power.

With that in mind, he quickly put his idea into action.

His Mental Power surged as he tried to control the roots around his figure.

Much to his surprise, it wasn’t difficult to do that. The Tree of Glyphs seemed able to read his mind as the roots around him expanded into the boiling lava.

With the blessing of Insight, he could clearly see some red energy streaming into his body through the roots. The leaves that hadn’t been burned were getting ignited.

Lu Ye quickly fished out the bottle that contained Soul Cleansing Water and consumed a bit of it.

Activating the Tree of Glyphs wouldn’t cost him much energy, but his Mental Power was being used. In the past, the process of refining Mystic Flames and Core Flames was swift, so Lu Ye could ignore the consumption of energy.

Nevertheless, he was in Thousand Demon Ridge’s territory now, after all. He had to replenish his Mental Power so that he wouldn’t be exhausted. Only when he was energetic enough would he be able to deal with any potential danger.

After the roots stretched into the lava, the absorption became quicker.

Half a day later, the Glyph that Lu Ye was hoping to see was fully activated at last.

He quickly looked into his mind and saw that dozens of leaves were aflame. If he looked closely enough, he could see every leaf carried a complicated pattern that combined the powers of Yin and Yang.

[I finally got it!] Lu Ye looked intently at the leaves. The next moment, he felt a familiar sensation once again. His soul seemed to be getting torn apart as lots of information barged into his mind. The process felt like someone had pried open his skull and messed up his brain with a piece of burning metal.

Fortunately, Lu Ye’s mind was powerful enough, and he had consumed some Soul Cleansing Water in advance. As such, the pain only lasted for two breaths of time before it went away.

When he finally came to his senses, he shook his head and pulled himself together. Then, he studied the Glyph he had just acquired.

A moment later, he sported an awkward expression, for the Glyph he had been hoping to see for the past two to three months turned out to be different from what he had thought.

He was hoping to get Void Glyph. Considering his Mastery in the Way of Wards, he could easily build a Void Glyph and use it as the core of a Teleportation Ward.

However, what he had learned from the books was different from what he could get from the Tree of Glyphs. The Glyphs built using the knowledge from the books might fail. On the other hand, Glyphs acquired from the Tree of Glyphs would never fail, and they could be built with only a flash of thought.

If he could get the Void Glyph from the Tree of Glyphs, he could try out many ideas that required the Void Glyph. By then, he would have more mysterious ways to deal with his enemies.

Alas, he didn’t get the Void Glyph this time. Also, the new Glyph looked like a useless one to him.

Although the Glyph seemed useless, it could potentially be helpful in certain situations.

Lu Ye gently tapped his face and placated himself, saying, “There isn’t a single useless Glyph in the world. There are only useless Glyphweavers!”

That was what his Honoured Master taught him, so he always kept that in mind.

Just like the Gathering Spirits Glyph, he used to think the Glyph was useless, but it turned out to be the most useful and beneficial Glyph to him.

Without this Glyph, he couldn’t have built Spirit Gathering Funnels, and his power wouldn’t have increased so rapidly.

It was wonderful enough that he got a reward, so he shouldn’t be too greedy. Moreover, it was only the beginning.

He looked intently at the Tree of Glyphs again and discovered that dozens of new leaves turned red. It showed that the next Glyph was definitely worth waiting for. Elated, he consumed a bit of Soul Cleansing Water to replenish his Mental Power.

As the heat energy in the lava was continuously absorbed, the leaves became increasingly brighter. It showed signs of being set aflame soon.

Just then, Lu Ye suddenly detected something and furrowed his brows.

Sounds of breaking through the air were approaching. Some people were heard conversing. The noise suggested that a group of people had arrived.

[Are they cultivators from Thousand Demon Ridge who are patrolling the area?]

Lu Ye was now in Thousand Demon Ridge’s territory, so he wasn’t surprised to come across cultivators from the other party. In fact, he had already expected it.

He immediately retracted the power of the Tree of Glyphs and activated a Glyph to conceal his presence. He hoped that they were just passing by.

Unfortunately, things went against his wishes. These cultivators seemed to be coming to this crater, and Lu Ye could clearly hear their conversation now.

“Although we’re in Lone Cloud City’s territory, and there are not many enemies in Blue Flame Mountain Pass which is across from here, we still have to be careful. Since you’re part of the Zhou Watch now, you have to obey orders. This is not your respective Sects, and no Senior Brothers or Sisters will take care of you. If any one of you dare do something fishy or disobey orders, don’t blame me for being harsh to you!”

“Yes,” several people were heard replying in small voices.

The person who had spoken earlier suddenly sounded milder. He was no longer as stern as before. “Of course, our task this time isn’t troublesome. As long as you obey orders, there won’t be problems. Since this is a task, you’ll get battle points upon completing it. I don’t think you need me to tell you how important battle points are. There were not many chances on the Cloud River Battlefield where you could get battle points.”

“Please take good care of us during this trip, Senior Brother Ying,” a gentle voice was heard saying. The person was apparently a female cultivator, and her voice was soft.

“Call me Sir! I’m sure that when you joined the Zhou Watch, you were told that there are no Seniors and Juniors here. There are only higher-ups and their subordinates.”

    “Sir Ying?”

    “Be more serious!”

Then, some women were heard laughing. It seemed that Sir Ying was an easygoing person. Even though he was the leader of this group, the other cultivators were not afraid of him. They even had the courage to tease him.

“Alright, we’ve arrived at our destination. Just wait here. I’ll go in and have a look first.”

At the bottom of the crater, Lu Ye sported an awkward expression. He wasn’t surprised to come across cultivators from Thousand Demon Ridge here, but it was a coincidence that this guy happened to come here. This guy was supposed to be a Real Lake Realm Master who had joined a Zhou Watch on Thousand Demon Ridge’s side now.

Since he was here, it suggested that he had been assigned to Lone Cloud City Pass. In that case, he would be Lu Ye’s opponent.

Lu Ye remembered the time when the eight of them were surrounded by Corpse Race members in the Muddy Sky Temple in the Peerless Continent back then. Just as they all thought they were doomed, this particular person vented his fury on Lu Ye.
