Chapter 1108, A Supreme Expert Accepts Disciples
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
The Myriad Beasts Domain was not that far from the Elf Forest.
This stretch of territory had once been a place rarely visited by anyone, and it was only with the rise of the Myriad Beasts Domain that it had transformed into a place of such extraordinary bustle.
Within the Myriad Beasts Domain there existed numerous cities, and Myriad Beasts City was the grandest and most magnificent of them all.
Given that the Myriad Beasts Domain was a place where dragons and serpents mingled freely, it was only natural that wherever people gathered, rules would eventually take shape. Myriad Beasts City thus served as the nominal authority that set and maintained those rules.
Under Qin Yichen’s relentless pace, the far edge of that vast grassland at last came into view.
When the two of them reached the boundary of the Myriad Beasts Domain’s territory, they found the sky above them streaked at irregular intervals with figure after figure streaking through the air, pouring in from all four directions like a swarm of locusts descending upon the land.
“The Myriad Beasts Domain is so popular?” Watching those figures streak past overhead, a flicker of surprise crossed Qin Yichen’s eyes.
A majority of those passing shapes radiated the power of Martial Ancestors, and Qin Yichen noted with some interest that quite a number of them appeared remarkably young, yet the auras exuding from their bodies could stand in comparison with Sacred Masters of some of the Human Race’s Sacred Lands.
Clearly, those were prodigies of their respective Races.
“Amazing. To think there are this many powerful experts in one place…” Surveying those experts drawn from such varied Races, Qin Yichen could not help but murmur to himself.
Those who ventured out to travel the continent were, as a rule, carrying items of considerable value on their persons. Were it not for the fact that they were now within the bounds of the Myriad Beasts Domain, one suspected that more than a few of them would already have been eyeing each other up and throwing hands.
“This is only the outermost boundary of the Myriad Beasts Domain. Once you reach Myriad Beasts City itself, you will see far more than this…” Mei Ler kept herself docilely behind Qin Yichen and said in a soft voice, “Though, in ordinary times, there would not be this many experts here.”
“Oh?” Hearing this, Qin Yichen’s eyes narrowed slightly, and it was only upon registering that second sentence that some understanding settled in.
If a neutral territory could attract this density of powerful experts as a routine, that would be rather excessive even by this continent’s extravagant standards.
If there were not normally this many, then something must have drawn them all here.
“Sir, are you unaware that Lord Mo Sheng is accepting Personal Disciples here?”
Watching Qin Yichen’s expression, Mei Ler could not help but ask.
“Lord Mo Sheng?” Qin Yichen’s pupils contracted.
That name was one he believed he had encountered in the ancient records of the Human Race.
Mo Sheng was an expert of the same era as the Saints Heavenly Manor Master, and he was one of the most renowned Supreme Experts on the continent.
No one knew to which Race Mo Sheng belonged to, and he had never once taken part in the wars between the various Races.
Of course, since Mo Sheng was himself a Supreme Expert, no Force had ever been foolhardy enough to antagonise him.
A wandering cultivator who was a Supreme Expert, even if provoked by a pinnacle race, would cause that Race nothing but headaches they could thoroughly do without.
“Three years ago, just as I was entering the Elf Race’s territory, I heard the news of Lord Mo Sheng accepting Disciples. If I recall correctly, the date he set was right around now.”
Seeing that Qin Yichen was genuinely unaware of the matter, Mei Ler felt a momentary puzzlement, though she herself had been curious to witness the event ever since leaving the Elf Race’s territory, and she proceeded to say what she knew.
“A Supreme Expert accepting Disciples?” Qin Yichen’s expression froze a little, and he thought, [no wonder there are this many people.]
Mo Sheng was an expert from the same period as the Saints Heavenly Manor Master, and even as a Supreme Expert, he was presumably not far from the end of his natural lifespan.
A wandering Supreme Expert, however little he concerned himself with fame and fortune in ordinary times, could hardly be expected to want his lifetime of extraordinary arts to vanish from the world along with him.
A Supreme Expert accepting Disciples…
Even the most supremely gifted geniuses from the very Top Races would, one suspected, find themselves unable to resist coming to try their luck.
“Miss Mei Ler, if this Lord Mo Sheng is seriously recruiting Disciples, why did you choose to enter the Elf Race’s territory then?” Qin Yichen asked with genuine curiosity.
A Supreme Expert as a Master, even one close to the end of his lifespan, would represent a temptation of simply astronomical proportions for the Charming Fox Race. Should any one of them earn the right to become his Disciple, it would be a piece of news worthy of a great celebration for the entire Charming Fox Race.
Even after Mo Sheng reached the end of his natural lifespan and departed from the world, that connection alone would be enough to make many people hesitant to cross the Charming Fox Race.
After all, a Supreme Expert’s casual parting gifts, even the smallest of preparations he might leave behind, were not things a First Tier Force could simply covet at will.
And moreover, once the individual who had inherited a Supreme Expert’s legacy grew to their full potential, they would in time become an independently formidable power unto themselves.
For the Charming Fox Race, which had spent so long living at the mercy of others, this was a temptation that ought to have been irresistible.
“I’m afraid the honoured Sir is unaware… our Race simply has no one capable of meeting Lord Mo Sheng’s requirements for accepting a Disciple.” Mei Ler’s expression went through a brief and rather uncomfortable series of changes.
Though Mo Sheng had placed no restriction on Race, and had not even outright refused a Race as unsavoury as the Blood Beastmen Race, his stipulations were clear enough: one’s cultivation history must not exceed one hundred years, and one must have reached Martial Ancestor Realm or above. Only those meeting both conditions would be permitted to participate.
From this, it was clear that Mo Sheng truly harboured no particular preference in matters of Race. So long as one could pass his trials, one could become his Disciple.
Qin Yichen gave a small nod. It seemed the Charming Fox Race’s circumstances were even more difficult than he had anticipated.
Still, if Mei Ler was willing to help him take his first steps in building a commercial enterprise, he would not object to doing what lay within his capabilities to assist the Charming Fox Race.
The Human Race, if it wished to expand beyond its current territory, needed not only formidable strength, but substantial financial resources to sustain such an endeavour.
Mei Ler, though her conduct within the Elf Race’s territory had shown she was a skilled calculative opportunist. She also had demonstrated a distinctly sharp eye for being able to grasp commercial opportunities. Had she lacked any of these one aspects, she would never have become the first member of the Charming Fox Race to secure an embassy qualification within the Elf Forest.
While Qin Yichen turned over in his mind the question of how best to draw Mei Ler into his camp, a region radiating a peculiar and unusual colour gradually came into view before him.
All around him, great surges of people and figures streaked past in every direction. After another hour or more of this, once a succession of enormous mountain ranges had been left behind, a roaring wave of noise and clamour burst upward and spread through the entire expanse of sky and earth.
Hearing that clamour, Qin Yichen raised his head slowly, and there, at the very edge of his vision, like an enormous ancient beast lying in rest, an immense city of seemingly limitless scale came into view.
In the skies encircling that city, Humanoid figures swarmed in and out like locusts from every direction, and that surging tide of noise rolled outward from within, enveloping this entire stretch of Heaven and earth.
“That is Myriad Beasts City…” Mei Ler pointed to that great city, a complex expression settling across her brows.
In ordinary times, members of the Charming Fox Race who appeared in such a place were, more often than not, concubines who had been taken into some powerful expert’s household…
