Chapter 1102, Running into a Familiar Face
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
Upon hearing that mocking sound, the group that had been flying away came to an immediate halt.
Each and every guard turned to look behind them, their faces filled with fury.
The reason they followed Mei Ler was not because the compensation she offered was greater than what others paid. Rather, they had come drawn by her reputation, hoping for a chance to get closer to her. Now that Mei Ler was being mocked so openly, this was naturally their moment to step forward and distinguish themselves!
In the centre of the crowd, when Mei Ler heard that utterly unconcealed mockery, her delicate brows also drew together slightly.
She had spent considerable effort, barely managing to claim the top position at the Merchandise Fair for three consecutive years, and only through that had she been awarded qualification for establishing an embassy.
Yet within just a few short days, before she had even had the chance to demonstrate her abilities, the Elf Race had undergone a sudden change and driven away all merchants.
That alone had been enough to leave Mei Ler thoroughly frustrated. And now, someone actually had the poor judgment to come and pick at her wound. It was only natural that she felt horrendous.
“Shi Weixi?”
Following the commotion behind her, Mei Ler’s beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, and the face beneath her veil darkened by several degrees.
Those guards who had been on the verge of showing off before Mei Ler, upon catching sight of that figure and the formidable auras radiating from the guards at his side, had their expressions freeze abruptly, and their own bearing involuntarily deflated.
*Whoosh!*
In but a moment, as the sound of wind-splitting filled the air, over a dozen figures came sweeping in and landed directly in front of Mei Ler’s group.
“Heh heh, Miss Mei Ler, what a coincidence. To think I’d run into you here of all places.”
At the very centre of that group, a middle-aged man dressed in black robes gazed smilingly at the alluring figure within the crowd before him, the filthy gleam in his eyes making no effort whatsoever to conceal itself.
“Shi Weixi, what is the meaning of this?” That naked stare filled Mei Ler with revulsion, yet when she caught sight of the powerful auras surging from the group at the latter’s back, she had no choice but to suppress the anger in her heart. She let out a voice that was cool and somewhat flat.
“No particular meaning. Miss Mei Ler looks to be down on her luck, which truly inspires one’s pity.” Shi Weixi let out a light chuckle, the filthy light in his eyes flickering, and he said, “Why not become my concubine, Miss Mei Ler, and follow by my side? I’ll guarantee you want for nothing, and enjoy riches and splendour without end.”
Hearing those words, Mei Ler’s complexion instantly darkened.
Behind her, the line of guards were each seething with indignation, yet not one of them dared to voice it.
The middle-aged man before them was a member of the Sky Lion Race!
The Sky Lion Race, while not the Strongest Race on the continent, was nonetheless one of the most renowned Races, and their manner of conducting affairs was exceedingly ferocious, causing many Races to hold them in deep wariness.
Speaking of foundations, the Charming Fox Race that stood at Mei Ler’s back was completely unable to compare with the Sky Lion Race.
Although many of the guards harboured a measure of admiration for Mei Ler, those who had spent years rolling about in the wider world were hardly eager to offend the Sky Lion Race.
One careless misstep could drag in the entire Race standing behind them, and that was not a price anyone wished to pay.
As Shi Weixi finished speaking, the many experts at his back deliberately or otherwise released their auras, locking down on the group opposite. In an instant, the atmosphere within that space grew tense.
…
And at that very moment, far in the distance, a streak of white radiance shot across the sky like a meteor, leaving a deep furrow through the canopy of forest below.
This streak of light was, unmistakably, a Unicorn whose entire body was as white as snow.
Upon the back of this Unicorn, both Fiery and Qin Yichen stood tall and upright.
“Sir Qin, if the opportunity presents itself in the future, do come and visit our place more often.” Fiery looked at Qin Yichen, a note of admiration in his gaze, and spoke with considerable feeling.
This fellow had been the one he had selected from the Elf Race’s Merchandise Fair. Yet he had never imagined that his own careless gesture would bring about such tremendous change for his own people.
Driving out the Blood Devouring Poison, resolving the greatest hidden danger within the Elf Race…
Either of those alone was enough to earn the gratitude of the entire Elf Race. And most importantly of all, his Daughter turned out to actually be a Night Elf!
And so, though Fiery was a Deacon of the Elf Race, in dealing with Qin Yichen he showed not the slightest trace of arrogance. In truth, were it not for the latter’s own request, he would not even have dared to address him so directly as “Sir Qin.”
“If it is convenient, I will certainly come.” Qin Yichen nodded and smiled in kind.
With Little Ling’er here, how could he possibly not come?
It was simply that, so long as the troubles within the Human Race remained unresolved, he would certainly not dare take the risk of bringing Little Ling’er back.
“Great!” Fiery nodded repeatedly, his face breaking into a broad smile. Then, as though something else had come to mind, his expression shifted through several complex changes, and in the end he seemed on the verge of speaking, yet fell silent.
*Whoosh!*
Beneath the swiftness of the white Unicorn’s stride, it was not long before they arrived at the outer reaches of the Elf Forest.
“Could it be that Deacon Fiery is after more Peak Grade Divine Immortal’s Intoxication?” Watching Fiery’s expression of a man who wanted to say something yet held back, Qin Yichen could not help but smile.
They would be leaving the Elf Forest before long now.
*Ahem ahem…* Upon hearing that, Fiery let out a fit of dry coughs, his face wearing a somewhat awkward look. Yet his eyes remained fixed unwaveringly on Qin Yichen.
“In return for Deacon Fiery bringing me along to the banquet, these ten jugs of Peak Grade Divine Immortal’s Intoxication are yours.” Qin Yichen shook his head, swept his sleeve, and drew ten jars from his Space Ring, smiling lightly as he did so.
“Many thanks! If you ever need anything in the future, simply give the order. So long as it is within my power, I, Fiery, will not refuse!”
“Ahh!” The moment he laid eyes on those fine wines, Fiery’s gaze lit up immediately, and his mouth was already making the most generous of promises.
“Think nothing of it…” Qin Yichen shook his head and smiled, watching Fiery, whose expression was precisely that of a man who had just won the heart of his beloved.
“Oh?” All at once, Qin Yichen’s eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze shifting towards the distance.
“What is it?” Seeing Qin Yichen’s reaction, Fiery looked in that same direction as well.
“I’ve run into a familiar face.” The corner of Qin Yichen’s mouth curved into a faint smile.
“Is that not Mei Ler? That little vixen, *hmph!* All she ever knows is how to ingratiate herself with the things girls fancy. Nothing but an opportunist.” Fiery had clearly noticed the commotion in the distance as well, though he responded with nothing more than a mild cold snort, and was completely unbothered by it.
He attended every Merchandise Fair in person, yet this Mei Ler had always managed to claim the top spot simply by winning the favour of the high-ranking female Elves, and had never once given him even the slightest pleasant surprise.
And so, while he could not say he disliked Mei Ler exactly, he held no particular warmth towards her either.
“I’ll go and take a look.” Though Fiery’s attitude was decidedly lukewarm, Qin Yichen simply smiled lightly, tapped the tip of his foot against the Unicorn’s back, and shot forward.
From what he had observed of her methods at the Merchandise Fair, he knew that Mei Ler was likely a business genius no less remarkable than Ye Liangchen!
Born into the lowly Charming Fox Race, yet able to rely on her wits alone to claim first place at the Merchandise Fair for three consecutive years, thereby securing the qualification to establish an embassy within the Elf Forest that Myriad Races envied. That was not something an ordinary person could accomplish.
