Chapter 1121, Testing the Pill Upon Oneself
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
“Nothing more than an ignorant Junior seeking to impress a crowd.”
Beside that strikingly handsome young man, an Elder who appeared to be somewhere in his fifties or sixties let out a cold snort, his tone suffused with contempt.
In the crowded expanse of the Blood Boulder Platform, the space immediately surrounding these two was strangely empty, entirely at odds with the atmosphere pressing in from every direction around them.
Behind them stood a row of guards radiating formidable auras, making it abundantly clear that these two were not ordinary people.
Bear in mind, even figures of Li Shang’s calibre, when in Myriad Beasts City, went without attendants.
Had Xiang Linzi and the others laid eyes on these two, they would very likely have lost their composure on the spot.
The young man dressed as a noble son bore no outward difference from an ordinary member of the Human Race, except that his hair was an iridescent shade of blue, and his eyes resembled the deep sea, giving anyone who looked into them the impression of unfathomable depth.
As for the Elder, he had only three guards at his back, yet all three of those guards radiated fierce auras. They were all Saints.
At the cuff of the Elder’s robe were lines of golden stitching that formed the outline of what looked remarkably like a small cauldron in the style of the Human Race’s Pill Furnaces.
From a considerable distance away, gazes heavy with awe drifted toward him from time to time.
That golden cauldron represented a peculiar Force in the continent, the Medicine Race.
The Medicine Race, by the measure of combat ability, did not even qualify as a First Tier Race. And yet even the Top Tier Races of the continent treated them with politeness and propriety when facing them.
This was because the people of the Medicine Race were born with formidable Spiritual Energy, making them a Race that cultivated Spiritual Energy as their primary pursuit.
Moreover, on the path of Pill-making, they possessed abilities that other Races found impossible to match.
Though even the Medicine Race could not concoct so-called Pills effective for the Myriad Races, they were capable of crafting, according to the specific distinctions of each Race, Pills uniquely suited to those Races.
And relying upon the deep-rooted foundation they had cultivated across vast ages, even certain Top Tier Races were compelled to lower their stance when dealing with them in matters relating to Alchemy.
“Speaking of Pills that work for every Race, only an ignorant Junior would dare say such a thing.”
The Elder snorted coldly, and the look in his eyes was nothing but undisguised contempt.
“Old Song, let us go.”
The handsome young man let out a light laugh, withdrawing his gaze and walking toward the exit.
…
At this moment, on the other side of things, virtually everyone was still reeling from the shock of Mei Ler’s words.
After all, a Pill effective for every Race was something they had absolutely never heard of before. Were it not for the strength Qin Yichen had already displayed, and the world-defying efficacy of that Pill, there would very likely have been someone who could not hold back and jumped out to challenge them already.
Even so, the eyes of Xiang Linzi and the others still held a measure of scepticism. They were not the sort of naive, easily deceived fools who could be talked into anything.
“Moreover, this Pill also possesses the effects of healing injuries, staunching blood, and restoring Yuan Energy.”
As for their scepticism, Qin Yichen appeared entirely indifferent. At his instruction, Mei Ler continued.
“Three effects!?”
Upon hearing that it actually possessed three separate effects, it was not only Xiang Linzi and the others whose expressions changed drastically, even some of the sharp-eared bystanders in the crowd felt their faces shift.
If the earlier claim, that the Pill worked for every Race, had been dismissed as wild boasting, then this claim was simply the stuff of fantasy.
It was common knowledge that every Pill had a single effect. In the understanding of the Myriad Races, it seemed there had never been such a thing as a Pill possessing two effects. Let alone three.
At this point, Xiang Linzi was beginning to lose any desire to continue the conversation.
Though he wished to cultivate good relations with Qin Yichen, and though he was curious to try the effects of this Pill, the things Mei Ler kept saying were simply a bit too preposterous.
“Instead of just doubting me, why not test it for yourselves?” Just as Xiang Linzi and the others decided that Qin Yichen was someone who talked nonsense and made to leave, Qin Yichen’s voice, carrying a faint smile, rang out without warning.
Hearing this, Xiang Linzi’s group exchanged glances, and within each pair of eyes was a flicker of wavering.
Though they did not believe a word of the effects Mei Ler had described, each of them harboured a small, stubborn flicker of hope in their hearts.
After all, if this Pill truly was as extraordinarily potent as Mei Ler had claimed, the sensation it would cause would be immense. And by that time, getting close to the latter again would likely prove near impossible.
“Very well. I will trust you just this once, Little Brother.” Xiang Linzi suddenly let out a great laugh.
Straightaway, he acted with decisive, unambiguous resolve, drawing a short blade and carving a deep gash across his own forearm, one deep enough to bare the bone. Then he landed a palm squarely against his own chest, and in an instant, his aura began to grow listless and dim.
Witnessing this, the expressions of everyone watching shifted at once. He had shown absolutely no restraint whatsoever. To test a Pill that ought not to work, he had actually dealt himself a blow this severe. It seemed like Xiang Linzi truly was the sort to stake everything on a gamble.
“Little Brother, I shall place myself entirely in the hands of your Pill.”
Xiang Linzi, his aura beginning to wane, squeezed out a smile toward Qin Yichen and said lightly.
“This guy…”
Li Shang’s expression changed upon seeing this.
He had to admit that in matters of scheming, there was quite a gap between himself, and Xiong Xiong and the others, compared to Xiang Linzi. Regardless of how things turned out, with this act, Xiang Linzi would leave a favourable impression in Qin Yichen’s mind.
Toward this, Qin Yichen merely nodded, appearing not in the least concerned about being exposed.
Then, under the watchful gaze of countless eyes, Xiang Linzi tossed the smooth, round Pill in his hand straight into his mouth and swallowed it whole.
“Hmm?” The very instant that Pill went down, Xiang Linzi’s expression changed sharply, and he sat down cross-legged without delay.
Seeing his movement, the massive noisy crowd that had been pressing in on all sides fell suddenly silent, and gaze after gaze fixed itself unblinkingly upon Xiang Linzi.
Whether the so-called Pill for the Myriad Races would have any effect on the Giant Elephant Race remained to be seen. As for the three effects, Xiang Linzi had dealt himself no small injury in order to put them to the test.
*Pu!*
Under the gaze of one pair of eyes after another, after a fair stretch of time had passed, Xiang Linzi’s face flushed a sudden, vivid shade of red, and then he opened his mouth wide and coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood.
“What is going on?”
“Did he simply strike himself too hard, and was unable to suppress his Qi and blood?”
“This is serious. Even with his own Race’s healing Pills, wounds like that would likely take ten days to half a month to recover from.”
“Yes. The day Lord Moshe accepts Disciples is not far off either. Xiang Linzi’s conduct here was frankly a bit too reckless.”
Seeing Xiang Linzi’s state, whispers erupted from all through the crowd.
More than a few gazes turned toward Qin Yichen carrying a trace of mockery, as though hoping to catch from his face the panicked look of a man whose lie has just been laid bare.
And yet, to their bewilderment, from beginning to end, Qin Yichen wore nothing but a composed, faint smile, without the faintest trace of alarm, as though every last bit of this had unfolded precisely as he had anticipated.
