Gang Guo had initially wanted to resist, but the moment he laid eyes on the people before him, he abandoned all thoughts of defiance.

The Flame Dragon Tribe’s Warriors were numerous, and several among them possessed strength that surpassed his own.

Even from outside the Tribe’s perimeter, the cement houses of the Flame Dragon Tribe were clearly visible, each one standing taller than any wooden houses he had seen back home.

Then his gaze fell upon Ga, who had once belonged to his own Tribe.

Left with no other choice, he had to comply for now. He told himself he would find an opportunity to escape later. What mattered most now was preserving his own life.

He understood that any resistance now would be met with nothing but death.

Escorted by Sha Hong and a group of Totem Warriors, Gang Guo was led into the Flame Dragon Tribe, his arms bound securely with iron chains.

Though a Totem Warrior was capable of breaking free from such restraints, doing so would be demanding and exhausting.

Also, before that could happen, the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Totem Warriors would have more than enough time to take countermeasures.

    *Clank clank clank…*

The rhythmic rattling of chains filled the air as Yan Jiao assigned Warriors to watch over the captives, then made his way to report to Su Bai.

Gang Guo stood at the centre of the Tribe, sweeping his gaze across the surroundings of the Flame Dragon Tribe. Many onlookers had fallen into stunned disbelief.

He had never in his life seen a Tribe so developed. Every direction he looked was immaculate and orderly, without a single trace of clutter or filth.

The various sections within the Tribe were neatly and deliberately arranged, and the wide thoroughfares that ran between them were spacious and well-maintained.

People moved through those roads in organised, purposeful streams. Each person attending to their own duties with a peaceful air to them.

This was something he had never witnessed in any Tribe, not even their own Dark Scorpion Tribe.

“Well? Isn’t the Flame Dragon Tribe better than your Tribe? Was I wrong? How is this even considered torture? You’d practically be living in luxury here.” Ga had anticipated exactly this expression of astonishment. “At first I was just like you, but once you’ve spent enough time here, you’ll discover that this Tribe is truly worthwhile.”

The reason the scorpion girl had stayed close to Gang Guo was precisely to work on winning him over.

Besides, with a recurve bow in hand and Totem Warriors flanking them on all sides, she had no reason to worry that the two of them might try anything.

“And that’s why you’d betray our Tribe? Don’t you know that Totem Warriors are meant to give their lives in absolute loyalty to their Tribe?” Gang Guo realised his expression had betrayed everything. He schooled his features immediately and said coldly. “No matter how fine the Flame Dragon Tribe may be, I have lost all respect for you.”

“That’s right.” Tan added at once. “If word got back to the other Tribes, you’d be spat upon.”

“Ha ha ha ha… So what?” Ga could not help but burst into laughter. “Do you think I care about what other Tribes think of me? I can say with full certainty that there is not a single Tribe on this entire continent that can hold a candle to ours.”

The scorpion girl’s tone and expression radiated complete confidence. What they had just said struck her as nothing short of laughable.

Gang Guo and Tan had nothing to say to that. Both of their faces flushed a deep, frustrated red.

“Besides,” Ga continued, her arms folding across her chest, “do you honestly believe that everything your former Tribe had you do was right? Do you think the values it passed down to you were correct?”

Her expression grew serious. “Ceaselessly sending the Tribe’s people to plunder and invade others, leaving those people without shelter, stripping them of their loved ones…”

Ga spoke at length and with great sincerity. Every word came from the depths of her heart. She had never been fond of such a life to begin with, particularly when such fighting was done purely for the sake of seizing what belonged to others.

In the brutality of this Primitive Era, such things were not exactly rare. But when a Tribe had already grown powerful enough to continue in making others suffer, this was something Ga never accepted.

The arrival of the Flame Dragon Tribe had been, for her, precisely what she needed. She had joined without a single complaint.

Its methods of governance were deeply humane. Food, clothing, shelter, and movement were all well accounted for.

In simple terms, honest labour brought one everything they could want. That was far more fulfilling than receiving food passively.

“This…” Gang Guo fell into silence after hearing the scorpion girl’s words.

He was not, at his core, the sort of man who was irredeemably wicked. In truth, he had long harboured doubts about the way the Dark Scorpion Tribe was run.

But compared to the Tribe’s Shaman, his standing was far too low. As the saying went, a man of little influence carries little weight. His thoughts had never mattered to those who led the Tribe.

Gradually, he had stopped dwelling on it. But Ga’s words just now had cut straight through to something long buried.

Gang Guo felt the faintest tremor of doubt stir within him. Not wanting to let it show, he reassembled his cold expression.

“You truly mean for us to stay here for three days, not to be tormented for three days?” Tan asked.

He was already wavering. Compared to the others, Tan had always been the more passive of the two.

Deep down, Tan was not a bad person. It was simply that in this primitive era, there had been no other path available to him.

His only option had been to align himself with the strongest Tribe, for that was the only way to be valued, the only way to receive enough food.

But now that he understood a Tribe could prosper without burning, killing, and plundering others, the resolve within him had already begun to crumble.

“Whether it’s true or not, why not find out for yourselves?” Ga said earnestly.

She intended to stay by their side for the next three days and was determined to bring them into the fold of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

If Gang Guo and Tan joined, they would be valuable assets to Su Bai.

“What do you intend for us to do during these three days?” Gang Guo asked.

He had quietly concluded that since things had already come this far, he might as well go along with it for now. They did not seem to harbour any ill intentions, and he could afford to let his guard down a little.

“Nothing much. Three meals a day will be taken care of for you. In between, you’re free to wander about the Flame Dragon Tribe. If you find that this Tribe is what you’ve been looking for, then you join. That’s all.” Ga ran her fingers lightly through her long hair and continued, “And if this Tribe is not what you want, our Shaman has already said he will let you go.”

“Are my ears playing me? He said he’d let us go?” Gang Guo asked, with disbelief plain on his face.

“You must be joking. You do understand that if you let us go, everything that happened today will make its way back to the Dark Scorpion Tribe.” Tan added.

“Our Shaman knows this perfectly well. He has always been a man of his word.” Ga said without a moment’s hesitation.

She did not fully understand it herself, but she could only carry out Su Bai’s orders.

“Very well. I accept.” Gang Guo agreed without further resistance.

He saw no harm in it for himself, and if anything, he found himself growing curious about this Tribe.
