“The relationship between these two Tribes is truly complicated.” Yu Ying let out a breath of relief when everyone had left.

The entire morning had seen a steady trickle of people from other Tribes entering The Yong’an Building one after another.

Yu Ying was naturally a rather shy person by nature, and only allowed herself to be a little playful in front of people she knew well.

Whenever unfamiliar faces came through the door, Yu Ying spent the whole time nervously hiding behind Su Bai.

Several times she nearly forgot to pour the tea. Each time she stepped out to do it, she had to summon a small measure of courage to manage it.

“You’ve really worked hard today. You’re clearly someone who finds strangers difficult, yet you had to meet so many of them all at once.” Su Bai said, his tone gentle.

He knew Yu Ying’s nature well enough, and had even arranged for her to attend to other tasks instead.

But she had refused. She would rather be frightened than leave the Shaman’s side, to be ready if he needed her to do something.

“My memory is great, and even I found it a little confusing given how many people there were. Xiao Yu must have had it worse.” Sha Lan gave her cat ears a little shake.

    *Step step step…*

Yan Hua walked in from outside at that very moment, the morning’s training finally concluded.

“Shaman, I’m back.” She set her sling bag lazily on the table, her delicate face flushed a soft pink.

Yan Hua had originally intended to remain at the Yong’an Building that morning, as she had wanted to observe what the various Tribes had to say.

But what she was most curious about was their appearance, their manner of dress, their strangeness compared to the Flame Dragon Tribe. It would have been quite a novel sight.

However, the newly recruited soldiers could not go without their daily training, and Yan Hua had no choice but to supervise. Left unattended, some of them might slacken off.

“Did training go smoothly today? Come and rest, have some water.” Su Bai’s tone was the same as ever, warm and unhurried.

He had always been gentle with the girls, making an effort not to speak harshly.

The truth was that Su Bai found the girls so pleasing to look at that he could not bring himself to raise his voice at them. That was the real reason his tone with them was always so mild.

Of course, this was a manner reserved only for them. The moment he spoke with others in the Tribe, or with people from other Tribes, his voice could settle into a weight that made a person quietly question themselves.

People would wonder how someone so young could produce a voice so steady and unshakeable. It gave the impression of someone not to be trifled with, which was precisely the effect Su Bai wanted.

“I’m not tired in the slightest. I’m just a little sorry I missed seeing those strange Tribes.” Yan Hua drank two large cups of water in quick succession.

She had always followed Su Bai’s instruction that one ought to drink plenty of water whenever there was nothing else pressing. Eight full cups a day, at minimum. Yan Hua had taken this to heart and now drank with tremendous enthusiasm at every available opportunity.

Even when Su Bai told her she need not drink quite so much, Yan Hua carried on regardless.

Because whatever the Shaman said was right. She had always believed that.

“You really did miss something. You should have seen the expressions on their faces. It was honestly quite funny.” Sha Lan couldn’t help covering her mouth to laugh.

Ordinarily the Sha Lan also attended these training sessions, but her position was a particular one, as she was both a Totem Warrior and a Shaman Priestess.

When the Shaman of the Flame Dragon Tribe received guests from other Tribes, it fell to the Shaman Priestess to remain close at hand, ready to be called upon for anything that arose.

Beyond that, she was there to guard Su Bai at close range, though if one were being honest, the precaution was somewhat unnecessary.

“Really? Were their expressions truly that funny? What were they like?” Yan Hua was a naturally curious creature, and her curiosity was now thoroughly roused.

“Ah’Lan is telling the truth. Their expressions were so expressive, changing from fearful, to stunned, to deeply respectful, all in an instant. It was like watching someone change faces on stage.” Yu Ying recalled the scene and found herself laughing again. Quite a few of the Tribes had worn much the same look throughout.

“What a shame. How could I have missed something like that.” Yan Hua pouted, genuinely aggrieved.

“It’s not really a loss. It’s not as though they’ll never come to our Tribe again. Next time you’ll be able to see their amusing behaviour for yourself.” Su Bai said, offering a warm measure of comfort.

He continued: “And besides, two Tribes have already joined our Flame Dragon Tribe. We can say we’ve grown even stronger.”

He was not quite sure why, but he found he wanted to share this bit of good news with Yan Hua.

Some people are simply like that. When something genuinely pleasing happens, the first person they want to tell is the one they care about most.

“Really? Weren’t they here to discuss a partnership? How did they end up becoming part of our Flame Dragon Tribe?” The expression on Yan Hua’s face shifted remarkably fast.

One moment full of regret, the next her eyes had gone wide with astonishment.

“The expression you’re making right now is not so different from theirs. Everything the Shaman says is true, you know.” Sha Lan smiled and gave her cat tail a flick.

“Oh, so that’s how it is, Ah’Lan. I didn’t think you’d dare laugh at me. Let’s see how you feel about this.” Yan Hua immediately stepped forward and began tickling her around the middle.

“Hahaha… sorry, sorry… hahahaha, I was only joking, haha…” Sha Lan doubled over laughing, clutching her stomach.

She dreaded this move of Yan Hua’s most of all. She tried to shield herself with one hand while running in circles to escape.

“That’s what you get for laughing at me. I wanted to see their expressions too, you know, but I had things to attend to. Now quickly tell me about those Tribes.” Yan Hua asked, urgent and restless.

At that moment, she looked very much like someone who had waited a long time in a queue only to be told the shop had run out. Indignant, a little annoyed, and unwilling to accept it. Though it had to be said, the look suited her rather well.

“The Horned Goat Tribe and the Coiled Goat Tribe have both joined us.” Su Bai said, smiling.

Watching the girls bicker was not unpleasant. There was something very relaxing and warm about it.

“But… according to what the Shaman has said before, aren’t those two Tribes completely at odds with each other? How could they both join our Tribe at the same time?” Yan Hua looked genuinely unconvinced.

She had heard a fair amount of intelligence about other Tribes over the course of delivering reports to the Yong’an Building, and among that intelligence was the longstanding conflict between the Horned Goat Tribe and the Coiled Goat Tribe. Yet here they both were, newly part of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

“You’re right. These two Tribes that couldn’t stand one another have both become part of our Flame Dragon Tribe.” Su Bai nodded with quiet certainty.

“Shaman, please tell me, how did you manage it? Didn’t they want to argue the moment they laid eyes on each other?” Yan Hua asked, slipping into a coaxing tone.

“Ah, my shoulders are aching a little.” Su Bai said, rubbing at them with deliberate innocence.

“Let me, let me help you.” Yan Hua stepped forward immediately, nudging Yu Ying aside, and began working on his shoulders without any ceremony.
