    *Thud thud thud.*

    *Rustle… Crack.*

Through the dense primitive forest came the thunderous sound of something running at tremendous speed, accompanied by the continuous crash and collapse of trees and undergrowth.

Viewed from above, it was as though a train were ploughing its way through the forest.

Surrounding beasts and Ferocious Beasts alike scrambled to get clear, not one of them willing to contend with this overwhelming advance.

Yan Hua was seated atop a Six Eyed Red Bird, with eight more following closely behind.

Yan Hua had already set off in the direction of the Flame Dragon Tribe, having completed all the tasks Su Bai had entrusted to her.

Carried swiftly forward by the Six Eyed Red Bird’s rapid stride, Yan Hua was soon at the outer perimeter of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

At the outer perimeter, construction work was underway on the walls. She exchanged a brief nod of greeting with those she passed and pressed on toward the Tribe without pausing.

The workers building the wall were all struck dumb, staring in astonishment.

“Ah’Hua is truly formidable. Look at how many Ferocious Beasts she’s brought back in one go.”

“I’m no Totem Warrior, but have you noticed, doesn’t Ah’Hua seem different? There’s something about her presence.”

“You noticed it too? Surely she hasn’t broken through? She only became a Totem Warrior not long ago.”

“Hard to say. Our Shaman is so amazing. Maybe he’s taught them some new Shaman Technique that allows Totem Warriors to break through more quickly.”

    “…”

The wall workers all stopped and began murmuring amongst themselves, each of them staring in disbelief at the retreating figure of Yan Hua.

On her way back, Yan Hua also passed the patrolling Totem Warriors and Tan, who was posted atop the watchtower overlooking the farmland.

The wall workers might not have known for certain, but the Totem Warriors all could feel it clearly. There was a power radiating from Yan Hua that had never been there before. They all knew she had broken through.

Yan Hua was now a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior! It was plain to see simply from the presence she now carried.

And indeed, that was precisely what had happened. After her confrontation with that giant serpent, Yan Hua had successfully broken through!

The serpent’s hide was currently coiled about her waist as a trophy, a testament to what she had endured.

Some minutes later, Yan Hua handed over the Six Eyed Red Birds to Yan Jiao to be settled in, then made her way to the Yong’an Building to deliver her report.

    *Step step step…^

Yan Hua bounded up the stairs with light, eager steps and entered the second-floor living room with a bright smile. “Shaman, I’m back.”

Su Bai had already sensed the commotion from outside the Tribe and heard the gatekeeper downstairs greeting Yan Hua. He had known she was coming long before she arrived.

He rose with a smile and extended his arms. “Welcome back. You’ve had a long journey.”

He was not entirely sure why he had opened his arms on instinct. His body simply acted before he could think, as though it had already decided for him.

“Thank you, Shaman.” Yan Hua did not refuse. She hesitated for just a brief moment before stepping in.

Her hesitation came from feeling genuinely touched and a little overwhelmed. There was also the matter of Su Bai’s standing, as the Tribe’s Shaman, after all, and she was merely a Totem Warrior, not a Shaman Priestess. To receive treatment like this was truly remarkable.

“Were you injured on this mission? Let me have a proper look at you.” Su Bai took her by the shoulders and examined her carefully.

Yan Hua’s exquisite red eyes met Su Bai’s dark, deep-set ones, and a flush of scarlet crept instantly across her face.

Her beautiful eyes seemed almost to tremble, like the surface of a still lake struck by a thrown stone, rippling outward in widening rings.

She held his gaze for a long moment before feeling her face grow hotter and hotter, and finally lowered her eyes, unable to look any further.

“Congratulations on successfully breaking through. Coming back unscathed is the best result of all.” Su Bai could feel the change in her clearly.

In truth, he had sensed it the moment she entered the Yong’an Building, and all the more so now that she stood before him.

“Yes, this mission wasn’t difficult at all. It might be the easiest one I’ve had in all this time.” Yan Hua smiled, her teeth showing.

And that was fair to say. The Six Eyed Red Birds she had tamed had largely been subdued through the one bird the Tribe had sent with her. The process had cost hardly any strength or effort to speak of.

The only real challenge had been the drawn-out struggle with that giant serpent. Evading its attacks had genuinely been taxing on her.

More than once, Yan Hua had come within a hair’s breadth of being caught by its sweeping tail. A single blow would have reduced her to dust and splinters.

But fortunately, everything had gone smoothly in the end, and she had even broken through to become a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior in the process.

“Don’t take any chances. Always be careful and thorough.” Su Bai gave her neat, upturned nose a gentle flick.

Were it not for the fact that this was the Primitive Era, Yan Hua’s refined and well-defined nose would have had him thinking it was artificial. It was simply too perfect, and yet entirely natural. That was something no procedure could replicate.

“Oh! Shaman, I nearly forgot. I retrieved a Ferocious Beast Crystal from inside the giant serpent I fought.” Yan Hua had almost let the main matter slip her mind entirely. She hastily pulled the Ferocious Beast Crystal from her sling bag.

“What a stroke of fortune. Breaking through and obtaining a Ferocious Beast Crystal all at once.” Su Bai accepted it with some surprise and began studying it carefully.

The Ferocious Beast Crystal was not especially large, but even so, one could sense the immense power contained within it.

“I was just as stunned. After its body blew up, the Ferocious Beast Crystal was suddenly just there, right in front of me.” Yan Hua shook her head, still a little bewildered.

All she could recall was hurling the explosive package into the giant serpent’s open maw before ducking behind a boulder to shelter from the blast. When the boom faded and she turned back, the Ferocious Beast Crystal was already floating in the air before her.

“Let me see whether it suits you. It’s your trophy, after all.” Su Bai smiled.

He placed the pale-blue Ferocious Beast Crystal in the centre of his open palm and held still, sensing the warmth it radiated. Then he slowly brought it toward Yan Hua.

The Ferocious Beast Crystal did not react in the slightest. It lay perfectly still in Su Bai’s palm.

“Shaman, it may be that this Ferocious Beast Crystal and I simply are not compatible. Had we been, I think it would have entered my body of its own accord the moment I obtained it.” Yan Hua said this with remarkable composure.

Yan Hua was not particularly troubled by whether this Ferocious Beast Crystal belonged to her. She already had one, after all.

Of course she wanted to grow stronger, and this was obviously a stronger Ferocious Beast Crystal. However, she also understood clearly how Ferocious Beast Crystals worked: they sought out their own Masters.

And there was the cautionary example of Ban Ye, where the Ferocious Beast Crystal had put him through tremendous suffering.

Even now, after she had broken through to become a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior, her overall strength was solid but not exceptional.

Yan Hua was not the sort to dwell on something like this. If there was someone better suited to it, all the better.

Silavin: Author forgot Yan Hua already has a Ferocious Beast Crystal. Changing context to suit it.
