“We’ll see if it suits Ah’Lan when she gets back.” Su Bai said casually.

 

He reached out and gave Yan Hua’s face a gentle pinch. He felt she was being rather too gracious about the whole thing.

 

But that was simply the way of things in this Primitive Era. Whatever one earned through their own effort and strength belonged to them. Even if she had chosen to keep it all to herself, not a Soul would have said otherwise. It was hers by right of what she had done to obtain it.

 

“Ah! Absolutely! I hope Ah’Lan turns out to be compatible with it.” Yan Hua nodded enthusiastically, even with a hint of anticipation.

 

The two had always been close, having grown up together. It was only natural that she hoped the Ferocious Beast Crystal would find a match in her.

 

Half an hour later, Sha Lan returned from outside, having spent the whole morning overseeing the training of the new soldiers.

 

Since the new batch of recruits had been taken on, Sha Lan had been put in charge of their training. With Yan Hua away on a new mission, the responsibility had fallen squarely on her shoulders.

 

“You’re finally back. I heard from someone that you’d returned, but I wasn’t sure I believed it. I was too busy to come and check.” Sha Lan came rushing over at once.

 

“I’m back. And I’ve successfully broken through!” Yan Hua opened her arms and drew Sha Lan into an embrace.

 

The two of them held each other tightly, because the mission had truly been a dangerous one.

 

“I’m so glad for you. You’ve achieved what you’ve been working toward for so long. Now, your next step is to set your sights on something even higher.” Sha Lan’s exquisite blue eyes had grown moist.

 

Sha Lan was genuinely happy for her closest companion from the bottom of her heart. This had been Yan Hua’s dream for as long as she could remember.

None of it, of course, was entirely separate from Su Bai. Had the Flame Dragon Tribe not changed its Shaman, none of this would have come to pass.

 

“We have to keep striving together. The next breakthrough will be yours, I’m sure of it.” Yan Hua flashed a bright, white-toothed smile.

 

“Let’s hope so.” Sha Lan’s expression softened considerably.

 

Clearly, she was not as fixated on breaking through. Becoming a Totem Warrior was enough for her.

 

Besides, Sha Lan was already busy working for Su Bai, effectively serving as something close to half a Shaman Priestess and half a Totem Warrior. There was a great deal to manage every day beyond training alone, and Sha Lan simply did not have the energy to spare for a dedicated pursuit of a breakthrough.

 

Had she done so, Sha Lan would likely have reached that threshold herself by now, much as Yan Hua had.

 

“Oh, right! When I was dealing with a Ferocious Beast, I obtained a Ferocious Beast Crystal. Try it and see whether it suits you.”

 

Yan Hua turned back to look at Su Bai. “Shaman, shall we give it a try?”

 

“Of course.” Su Bai extended his open palm, revealing the pale-blue Ferocious Beast Crystal resting within it.

 

Sha Lan was visibly taken aback. She blinked her exquisite blue eyes repeatedly, looking back and forth between the two of them.

 

Then, covering her mouth in disbelief, she said, “You actually obtained a Ferocious Beast Crystal? I can’t accept this. You’ve earned it.”

 

Sha Lan was genuinely stunned. To break through and obtain a Ferocious Beast Crystal at the same time seemed almost too much to take in.

 

Obtaining a Ferocious Beast Crystal at all was no easy feat. There were people who had never even heard of one, let alone held one.

 

“It’s fine. I’m not compatible with this one. And I have my own one already. So, see whether it suits you.” Yan Hua quickly said.

 

“Since she’s not bothered about it, there’s no need for you to feel guilty.” Su Bai said warmly from beside them.

 

“Yes.” Sha Lan wrestled with herself for a good while before finally giving a nod.

 

Su Bai slowly brought the Ferocious Beast Crystal toward Sha Lan, watching to see whether they were compatible.

 

As the pale-blue Ferocious Beast Crystal drew near Sha Lan, it underwent no change at all, remaining completely still in Su Bai’s palm.

 

Clearly, this Ferocious Beast Crystal and Sha Lan were not compatible either. Had they been, something would have happened by now.

 

“Shaman, it seems I’m not the right person for this one either.” Sha Lan let out a quiet breath of relief.

 

And she genuinely meant it. The relief she felt was because accepting something so valuable left her deeply uneasy. If it had been a gift from the Shaman himself, that would have been one thing, but this Ferocious Beast Crystal had been earned by her closest companion through real hardship. Sha Lan had no wish to receive something like that for nothing.

 

That was the way of most Totem Warriors from the Primitive Tribes. They disliked receiving things they had not earned for themselves. Especially when it came to something this precious, and especially when it came from someone close to them.

 

“What a pity. I really thought it might suit you.” Yan Hua looked thoroughly crestfallen.

 

“Never mind. There will be one that suits me eventually, won’t there? Maybe one day I’ll obtain one of my own.” Sha Lan patted her on the shoulder with a reassuring smile.

 

“It seems we’ll need to find this Ferocious Beast Crystal a new Master.” Su Bai weighed it lightly in his hand.

 

“Maybe Father might be a match.” Yan Hua’s eyes brightened at the thought.
