Chapter 1186, Three Coloured Pills
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
It was early morning. Su Bai got up and Checked In straight away, as he always did.
What came out this time was a little disappointing. Just a pair of cotton gloves.
He had long grown used to drawing ordinary things, especially after the good pulls he’d had before.
“Shaman, breakfast is ready. Today’s breakfast is dried vegetable congee.” Yu Ying’s voice drifted over.
She had been fond of experimenting with different breakfasts lately. Whenever she came up with something new or particularly good, she would write it down. It was so that when the Shaman fancied something one day, the recipe could be found straight away.
After all, some of her dishes came together on a whim, and actually recreating it later was harder than it seemed.
“Good. Is it from the vegetables we dried before the snow season?” Su Bai asked.
With the Growth Acceleration Skill bolstering things along, most vegetables grew at a remarkable pace. Fast enough that there was always a little more than could be eaten. The cellar could only hold so much.
Whatever was left got pickled into sour vegetables or dried into vegetable strips, a different way of keeping things.
“That’s right, Shaman. We’ve been eating the pickled ones for a while now. I haven’t tried the dried ones yet, so today I thought I’d make them into congee.” Yu Ying gave a small nod.
“Your cooking is as good as ever. Just the smell alone is something.” Su Bai smiled a little.
He made quick work of washing up, then sat down as Ji poured out a bowl of congee that had been set aside earlier to cool.
“You’re too kind, Shaman. My cooking isn’t half as good as yours.” Yu Ying laughed, a little flustered.
…
Breakfast was finished early. The two of them headed outside together, walking around the Tribe.
There was not much snow covering the grounds right now. They had people clear it out regularly.
It was to keep the main paths open. That way the Tribe could still move despite the weather.
“Shaman, where are we going?” Yu Ying asked, curious.
“Yeah, where?” Sha Lan added. She was equally curious.
They had no training today, so they had eaten breakfast in the Yong’an Building as well.
“I want to show you something. It might be useful to you.” Su Bai said, his voice level.
His expression was calm, as though he had already expected such questions.
The girls beside him were puzzled. Yan Hua most of all. Her red eyes were full of questions.
*Step step step…*
Half an hour later, they arrived at a cliff face some distance from the Tribe. Nobody usually comes out here, and especially not during snow season.
“Shaman, there’s nothing here at all. What did you want to show us?” Sha Lan swept her gaze around.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything special. Though the view from here is nice.” Yan Hua’s long black hair lifted and drifted in the wind.
“These three. Eat them. They might do something useful for you.” Su Bai reached into his inner space and drew out three small pills, each a different colour.
They were about the size of a fingernail. One green, one red, one blue.
He had received them from the System a few days ago. He had gone back and forth over them ever since and had only made up his mind today.
“Shaman, what are these?” Yu Ying blinked, her pink eyes curious.
“Are they something to eat? Then why did we have to come all the way out here?” Sha Lan tilted her head.
“I’ll try one and see if it tastes good.” Yan Hua swallowed the red pill without a moment’s hesitation.
“Wait, you should hear what the Shaman has to say first.” Sha Lan didn’t manage to stop her in time. Yan Hua was already chewing.
“It doesn’t taste like… like anything at all. It’s like chewing air.” Yan Hua scrunched her brow and pursed her lips.
“No taste?” Su Bai wasn’t sure himself what the pills would taste like. He went on. “I made these with a Shaman Technique. They’re meant to improve your physical condition.”
He had not known this beforehand. When he first drew the three pills from the System, the System had explained it to him.
Each one was supposed to raise a person’s various stats. Stamina, Agility, Defence, Strength, and so forth.
Su Bai had thought about eating one himself but decided against it. His own stats were already strong, and they continued to rise over time. These pills were of little value for him.
The girls had come to mind almost immediately. He had wondered whether eating them might raise their stats too.
“Right. No taste. But will this really make us stronger?” Yan Hua was still chewing steadily.
“I’ll give it a try.” Sha Lan picked up the blue pill and placed it into her small mouth.
She chewed with a perfectly ordinary expression. Nothing particularly good about it, nothing particularly bad.
“Mm… towards the end it gets a bit sour.” Sha Lan wrinkled her brow.
By the last of it, she looked as though she had bitten into a salted plum. Her whole face puckered.
“Why did yours taste sour? Mine had no taste at all.” Yan Hua was genuinely baffled.
She almost wanted to prise Sha Lan’s mouth open and have a taste herself. Almost.
“Sour?” Su Bai found that mildly surprising. He did not know what flavour to expect from any of them.
“Very sour. Though it seems to have faded now.” Sha Lan ran her tongue across her teeth.
She felt as though her teeth were about to dissolve. There was even a faint trembling sensation.
“If I’d known, I would have taken the blue one. At least I’d have gotten some kind of taste out of it.” Yan Hua was thoroughly envious. She had eaten the whole thing and felt nothing from start to finish.
“Come on then, Xiao Yu, try the last one. Perhaps each pill gives a different experience, and brings different benefits.” Su Bai held out the final pill.
The System had said the three pills would raise a person’s stats across the board, but hadn’t gone into specifics.
“All right.” Yu Ying felt a little nervous. She reached out slowly and took the last green pill.
“Give it a try. The taste might be quite nice.” Su Bai encouraged her gently.
He wanted Yu Ying’s stats to go up, even a little. He was not asking for much. Enough to look after herself was enough.
Nobody could say what might happen down the road. Getting stronger was always better.
“All right.” Yu Ying nodded slowly.
