After the old man finished speaking, he left the place without waiting for the woman to respond. The ripples of Spacetime spread around him before everything returned to normalcy.
The white-clothed woman only stood there in silence. She did not make the old man stay.
She knew that the other party must have the confidence to flee. That was why he dared to show up like this and wasn’t worried that she would make a move.
“All of us will suffer miserably?” She muttered to herself meditatively. After hesitating for a bit, she waved her hand and opened up a Spacetime portal. Then, she entered it and disappeared.
As far as she was concerned, the Heaven Legion and the Eight Legions originated from the same place, which was the Heaven’s Proxy Group.
However, after the Master of the Heaven’s Proxy Group was sealed, the group fell apart, splitting into the Heaven Legion and the Eight Legions.
It could be said that both parties were on terrible terms.
Supposedly, the old man who claimed he was from the Decay Legion should not have come to look for her.
After all, the Eight Legions had been hunted down by the Heaven Legions over the years. They were like rats in the gutters. They usually wouldn’t dare to show up.
That was because after Heaven’s Proxy Group came apart back then, those from the Eight Legions took away many valuable treasures.
Most of those supreme treasures and Dao Artifacts from ancient times were taken away by them.
Those from the Heaven Legion claimed to be the legitimate Successor and they had always sought to restore the Heaven’s Proxy Group. Naturally, they had to retrieve those valuable treasures that belonged to Heaven’s Proxy Group from the Eight Legions.
The Priestess behind the white-clothed woman was a powerful figure in the Heaven Legion. Her history could be traced back to the Black Disaster Era, when the Heaven’s Proxy Group reigned supreme.
However, according to the old man, it seemed that the Priestess behind her had a different plan.
[Some being had opened his eyes and was coldly watching over us? Is that being the one I think it is?] The white-clothed woman soon disappeared from the depths of Spacetime. Nevertheless, those dark beings, who were in different places, had no intention of retreating. They were still streaming towards the universe and the Great Realm in the distance.
The boundless black mist was like a cold and deep ocean. It descended from skies and streamed into the distance while carrying the pieces of a broken universe.
…
In the distant Great Realm, all the most powerful living beings could see something that looked like bubbles approaching them from a distance.
The black mist was rapidly approaching, shattering universes and coming close to the Great Realm.
Dark beings emerged from the black mist and pounced on them like waves coming from the depths of the skies.
Darkness swept across and stars trembled. Immense pressure struck the ground.
A violent war broke out just like this without a warning. Those dark beings naturally never give anyone a warning before they arrived.
“Kill them!”
“I’ll destroy all of you!”
The most powerful cultivator of this Great Realm emerged. He was a being who was close to the Dao Realm.
He growled with resentment and fury. His body radiated a glow and the centre of his brows brightened. His Life Force being burnt up. He was determined to destroy those dark beings even if it meant losing his life.
However, a massive hand with red hair suddenly extended from the black mist and struck him. He exploded into broken pieces and a blood mist in an instant. He lost his life just like this, without being able to do anything.
A sense of sorrow and misery spread between Heaven and Earth. All those nearby felt mournful.
His Family members could not accept what just happened. They staggered for a bit before they blacked out and collapsed to the ground.
Blood splattered in all directions. Dark beings hovered in the black mist.
They were chanting some ancient scripture. Dark Grand Runes flew forward and intertwined with one another to form an enormous altar which slowly rose into the air.
Blood lights shot into the sky, covering the Great Realm. It was like a cage that prevented all living beings from fleeing.
It was a despairing sight as though it was doomsday. All were fearful and unresigned to their fates.
Chasms appeared in the ground. Mountains fell apart. The vitality in cities and villages was immediately gone after they were devoured by the black mist. Only bones remained.
Bones piled up on the ground, but everything was soon covered in a mist. The place soon fell into desolateness.
“Heavens, please open your eyes and look at us. Is there a chance for us to survive? All of us are doomed. Lives will be lost and only bones will be left. Is there still hope? Can anyone stop this atrocity?”
Countless cried out in mourning. They were despondent and furious.
This Great Realm was vast, and innumerable people lived here. When it was at the peak of its power, there were even beings who had attained enlightenment and ascended to the Dao Realm.
But now, even those Forces, which used to have Dao Realm experts, lacked the power to resist. Those Forces were turned into ruins in the blink of an eye.
“Father…”
In a vast area where there were many cities and the mountains were splendid, a young woman in a long dress stood atop the wall of the royal city. She kept weeping until her eyes were bloodshot. Like an injured bird, she was full of sorrow.
In the depths of the skies, Divine Lights surged and intertwined with one another. There, a mighty figure stood. He was the last King of this Kingdom.
In front of him was the surging black mist that looked like a boundless sea. It was streaming towards him.
Wherever the black mist went, the place would fall into darkness. Even sunlight was blocked out as all they could see was darkness.
He stood there on his own with an icy gaze. He was wearing a crown and a battle robe while holding a royal sword. The aura of his Dragon Bloodline surrounded him.
“I’m the King of this land. I have the responsibility to protect my Kingdom and my people.” He looked at those dark beings and growled. Then, he determinedly flew forward like a ray of light and clashed with the endless darkness.
“Your Majesty…” On the city wall, all of them were crestfallen and shouting out to the King.
“Father…” A young woman cried until her voice was hoarse. Her body was like a leaf in autumn as she trembled uncontrollably.
Endless misery washed over her, making it difficult for her to breathe.
She extended her hand as though trying to grab her Father for one last time. In the past, regardless of how mischievous she was, her Father would always look at her with a gentle and amiable smile. But now, he left her just like this.
“It seems like we’ve come too late. Those dark beings have arrived earlier than we expected.”
Suddenly, a gentle voice was heard speaking to the young woman. She felt a warm hand touching her shoulder.
Shocked, she turned her head and saw a demure and elegant woman in a long blue dress beside her.
“Don’t worry. Your Father will be safe.” The woman in a blue dress smiled and her voice was soft.
Her voice seemed to have a special power that could get the young woman out of her melancholy and calm her down.
The young woman rubbed her eyes to wipe away her tears. She couldn’t help but ask, “Who are you?”
Suddenly, she realised many people had appeared on the city wall. There were men and women and most of them were young. Some were ancient beings with dark gazes and they were covered in the Mist of Chaos.
“We come from the Waning Moon Mountain. You may not have heard of it, but you just have to know that we’re here to help all of you fend off those dark beings,” said the woman in a blue dress with a smile.
“Waning Moon Mountain?”
The young woman was still in a dazed state, unable to come to her senses. Just then, the woman in a blue dress turned around and cupped her fists at a middle-aged man. “These dark beings which have come to attack this Great Realm aren’t as powerful as we thought. But, you would still have to make a move, Martial Uncle Zhou.”
The middle-aged man was clad in a purple robe and he looked impassive. He nodded upon hearing that.
“I’ve scanned around and discovered that the strongest dark being is in the Quasi-Dao Realm. Not so difficult to deal with. I thought there would be some big fish here. It seems like I was mistaken. Perhaps he had fled upon detecting our auras.”
Upon finishing his words, the middle-aged man spat out a fine-looking long sword from his mouth. The blade was white as though made from jade. It exuded a celestial aura and was surrounded by Grand Runes. There was no doubt it was a powerful weapon.
Then, he waved the sword, and it expanded with the wind. He leapt and landed on the sword. Soon enough, he turned into a ray of light and flew into the distance.
“Martial Uncle Zhou has gone through his Fifth Decay Tribulation. He’ll easily kill those dark beings. We came to this place when we realised this Great Realm was being destroyed. We thought we had come across a big fish, but it seems that not all dark beings are unafraid of death. Those higher-ups must have fled upon detecting Martial Uncle Zhou’s aura.”
“Well, he’s pretty lucky this time, but he won’t be so lucky all the time.”
“Those dark beings are just weaklings in front of Martial Uncle Zhou. They can only oppress Great Realms where there are no Dao Realm experts…”
These young men and women could not help but whisper among themselves.
Through their conversation, it was easy to tell that they respected the middle-aged man.
The other people on the city wall came to their senses and approached them to thank them. They could tell that these young men and women were mighty and inscrutable. They also had the protection of such a powerful being. There was no doubt they came from a prestigious background. Nevertheless, they had never heard of a Force called the Waning Moon Mountain.
“One should never show arrogance when dealing with dark beings. During this period, many Ancient True Worlds and some Supreme True Worlds have fallen, sacrificed by them. Just because the dark beings we’ve come across today are weak, it doesn’t mean you can start acting smug and underestimate them. You’re only safe this time because Martial Uncle Zhou is here to protect you.”
“Try fighting them yourselves as training. Without taking on some risk, you’ll never grow stronger. Battles will be even more violent in the future. Who will be there to protect you then?”
The woman in a blue dress furrowed her brows upon hearing their conversation. Helpless, she decided to criticise these Juniors.
Upon seeing that their Senior Sister get angry, these young men and women quickly kept their mouths shut. It was apparent that they respected the woman in a blue dress.
The woman shook her head helplessly.
She was not sure if it was the right decision that the Sect has allowed them venture into the outside world and get train during such turbulent times. They were basically expected to go against those dark beings.
After all, they had been well-protected and had never experienced violent battles. Also, it seemed that they underestimated those dark beings. She found it inconceivable.
[If only they could be as calm and cautious as Junior Sister Xianer…] At the thought of this, the woman in a blue dress couldn’t help but glance at a slender figure at the back of the crowd.
She was a young woman in white clothes with an ancient sword on her back. Her silky black hair had been tied into a ponytail with a red band, which revealed her beautiful face with delicate eyebrows. She was tall and slim. Her skin was as flawless as a piece of porcelain. There was a plain white jade at her waist. It was a wonder what the jade was made of.
Apart from the red hairband and the jade, the young woman did not have other accessories. This made her look naturally beautiful.
[During our time out training, Junior Sister Xianer has performed well. She’s always calm and collected regardless of what happens, and she has a lot of combat experience. When facing dark beings, she’s cautious and determined. She would not hesitate to destroy them.] There was a hint of gratification on the face of the woman in a blue dress.
Then, she recalled something and shook her head helplessly. [It’s such a shame…]
In the skies, Sword Qi howled and shot forth with horrifying fluctuations that shook the entire universe.
Dark blood splattered. Someone was heard growling furiously. It seemed that the person was unresigned to his fate.
The black mist had come like a rising tide, but it was now quickly retreating into the distance.
Many dark beings were killed by the Sword Qi as they fell apart.
Billions of sword lights covering every part of Spacetime. It was like an ocean of swords which covered the entire sky like a screen.
It was the best rendering of the Sword Dao. All the substances in the world seemed to have turned into swords. The broken stars transformed into divine swords and they came in different colours such as green, red, purple, and so on. They were as magnificent as mountains or seas.
The dazzling light shone on darkness. Countless sword lights flew between Heaven and Earth.
Those dark beings in the black mist growled resentfully. Their ancient and huge bodies were penetrated by countless divine swords. They could only retreat as their dark blood spilt.
On the city wall, the young woman in white clothes with an ancient sword on her back looked attentively at everything. The same scene was enacted behind her gaze. She seemed mesmerised.
The ancient sword on her back started resonating with her emotions.
A vague sight appeared from behind her. A world of ancient swords opened up. Countless divine swords had been jabbed into the cliff. They started buzzing as though they would fly out of the cliff at any moment.
When all of them felt the icy aura, their hair stood on end. It was as though a sword had skirted past everyone’s face.
“She has great potential. I didn’t expect her to fall into the state of enlightenment all of a sudden.”
The horrifying scene soon disappeared. The massive black mist had fled into the distance. The middle-aged man with an impassive expression held a blood-soaked figure in his hand and returned while riding the sword.
His gaze fell upon the young woman, surprised. Then, he nodded as a form of acknowledgement of her potential.
When these young men and women saw that, complex emotions such as envy, jealousy, and disdain rose within them.
“Junior Sister Xianer is indeed extremely talented. Back then, even the Sect Master complimented her. He found it inconceivable that she came from a remote Nascent True World.” The woman in a blue dress said with a smile.
The middle-aged man dipped his head upon hearing that, but he stopped dwelling on this topic and pocketed his gaze from the young woman.
“The leader of those dark beings has escaped. Since he’s injured, I’ve decided not to chase after him. I’m worried it might be a trap. Those dark beings won’t come to attack this Great Realm again for the time being.”
“But, for the sake of the people here, I suggest all of you migrate. Although we have no interest in a Great Realm like this, these are turbulent times. We can make an exception and offer you some protection for the time being.”
He took a look at the figure in his hand and threw him onto the city wall. His voice was indifferent as he spoke.
“Thanks for saving us, Senior. It’s because of you that we’ve managed to survive this calamity.”
The gallant middle-aged man in an imperial robe spoke with gratitude. He was ready to salute the man from the Waning Moon Mountain.
Although he was the King, he understood that the middle-aged man before his eyes was far stronger than he was. That this person could protect an entire Great Realm.
