Time went by quickly.
Ten years after the peace treaty was struck between the Righteous Alliance and the dark beings, peace was gradually restored in the originally chaotic Boundless Expanse.
Dark beings had stopped harassing the Righteous Alliance. Correspondingly, the Righteous Alliance provided a lot of territories and universes as well as offerings for the dark beings, so that their Grand Ceremony could smoothly continue.
In the first few years after the peace treaty was struck, the war was still violent and cruel.
The Heavenslayers Alliance had never stopped retaliating against the Righteous Alliance, nor had they given up on chasing after the dark beings.
During this period, the Heavenslayers Alliance occupied many Civilisations and True Worlds that originally belonged to the Righteous Alliance.
The situation transitioned from being chaotic to one with restraint. Then, things became stable and peaceful.
During this period, the leader of the Righteous Alliance, the Main Happiness Emperor, showed up and showcased his incredible power as the Emperor. He had a talk with the high-ranking dark beings and eventually reached an agreement with them.
Meanwhile, many horrifyingly powerful beings from the Righteous Alliance were revealed. They were much stronger than an average Ancestral Dao Realm expert. They came from different Spacetimes and Civilisation Systems. Some of them were Ancestral Deities born during ancient times.
As for why these beings had gathered in the Righteous Alliance and whose orders they obeyed, it remained a mystery.
Many people speculated that there might be a mighty mastermind behind the Righteous Alliance. Even the Main Happiness Emperor was nothing compared to that being.
Nevertheless, this kind of speculation could not be verified. On the other hand, many felt that dark beings had taken control of the Righteous Alliance. That was the reason they even agreed to such a ridiculous and inconceivable deal.
Dark beings had returned and they brought the Black Disaster with them. They must have a horrifying goal for hosting the Grand Ceremony.
Once the dark beings achieved their goal, no one knew what would happen to all living beings, or what the Boundless Expanse would end up becoming. Would the dark beings even let them off?
One had to know that when dark beings devastated the Boundless Expanse during ancient times, the Great Sages of various Forces had paid a huge price to ward off those dark beings and stop the calamity from spreading.
Now that the Dark beings had return, it was unfortunate that no one could stop them.
The Righteous Alliance’s actions had undoubtedly helped boost the strength of the dark beings.
And in the decades that followed, the Righteous Alliance, the Heavenslayers Alliance, and the dark beings became the three strongest Forces. They restrained each other in the Boundless Expanse.
Although the Righteous Alliance’s reputation had gone down the drain, its foundation and overall might had not been affected. The appearance of many powerful cultivators and the peace treaty had helped stabilise the situation.
On the other hand, those dark beings were wary of the Heavenslayers Alliance Leader, which was why things looked peaceful on the surface.
During this period, many high-ranking dark beings had shown up and wandered around the Boundless Expanse. They were reckless despite their identities.
In the past, dark beings would conceal themselves and their traces. They were worried they would be targeted.
Nevertheless, after signing the peace treaty with the Righteous Alliance, the dark beings became even more arrogant. They had no regard for everyone in the Boundless Expanse.
The identities and backgrounds of some dark beings were terrifying.
Those people included the Kings of Immortal Kingdoms, Ancestors of Celestial Dynasties, and Great Sages who used to protect everyone in the Boundless Expanse.
These ancient beings had fallen into darkness and turned into dark beings. They now opposed all living beings.
No one knew what happened to them that made them become dark beings.
Those from many True Worlds and Civilisations were fearful and sorrowful. Some surviving Forces, from the universes destroyed by the dark beings, wailed with grief. They could not accept such a revelation.
That was because some of those dark beings used to be their Ancestors or valiant cultivators who had protected them before.
Nevertheless, these Ancestors and valiant cultivators had fallen into darkness. They were not going against the worlds they used to protect. How cruel and despairing was that?
Some even willingly join them, and its veil of mystery was gradually lifted off.
The so-called ‘dark beings’ was a collective term. Many knowing Forces would rather call them remnants of the Heaven’s Proxy Group.
As more and more high-ranking dark beings showed up, many records about dark beings were revealed to everyone. A commotion was caused when those from different Civilisations and True Worlds learned of it.
Be it the Black Disaster or the dark tide that had devastated the Boundless Expanse, they had something to do with an organisation named the Heaven’s Proxy Group.
Many epochs ago, the organisation named Heaven’s Proxy Group used to have control over the Heavenly Dao Authority. Using it, they attempted to rule over the Boundless Expanse on behalf of Heaven. And the leader of Heaven’s Proxy Group was the one who created the dark beings and the Aura of Darkness, which brought about the Black Disaster, and the immense devastation of the Boundless Expanse.
Many dark beings would rather call the Master of the Heaven’s Proxy Group the ‘Ancestor of Darkness’.
During that era, the Heaven’s Proxy Group control over the Heavenly Dao Authority and enslaved everyone.
This caused a bloody era of darkness in the literal sense.
The entire Boundless Expanse was shrouded in darkness and despair. All of them could not see any hope. When they lifted their heads, all they could feel was pressure and despair. They had no idea when the Black Disaster would strike them.
Everyone the various Forces lived in fear. They did not know whether they would see the sun or endless darkness when they opened their eyes the next day.
Although people from the current era had only read about the Black Disaster Era in some ancient records, they could feel how desperate and cruel the era was.
Fortunately, during an era that was full of darkness and hopelessness, there were some Great Sages who joined forces to save everyone despite having to put their lives at risk.
On a path full of thorns and mud, they brought hope to the next generation. They were determined to end the Black Disaster Era. More importantly, they had destroyed the Heaven’s Proxy Group.
Those Great Sages collaborated and besieged the Master of the Heaven’s Proxy Group. In the end, they successfully sealed him and caused the Heaven’s Proxy Group to fall apart. Thus, the Black Disaster Era came to an end, and all living beings were finally hopeful.
The later generations enjoyed a long period of peace. Order and calmness were restored to the Boundless Expanse.
These secret records were hidden in the depths of the River of Time. After a peace treaty was signed between dark beings and the Righteous Alliance, those records started circulating in the Boundless Expanse. It was an understatement to say that everyone was shocked.
Many members of the Righteous Alliance were not aware of the secret records and those historical events.
There was no doubt some people had intentionally exposed the secrets of the dark beings to everyone in the Boundless Expanse so that all of rest would know how horrifying the dark beings were.
Now, dark beings have returned. They were collecting nutrients to hold a Grand Ceremony. It was likely that they were trying to resurrect the sealed Master of the Heaven’s Proxy Group, who was also known as the Master of Black Disaster and the Ancestor of Darkness.
The Righteous Alliance chose to avoid antagonising the dark beings. That would only make the latter more arrogant, able to acclimate their forces. Once they grew strong enough, the Righteous Alliance would suffer the greatest backlash.
Once the Master of the Heaven’s Proxy Group awakened and returns, the true Black Disaster would fall.
When that day came, there would no longer be peace in the Boundless Expanse. All hope would be lost.
“Is this true? It’s said that dark beings have taken control of the Righteous Alliance. That they’re now mere puppets.”
“Dark beings intend to resurrect the Master of Black Disaster. Now, even the Righteous Alliance is helping them.”
“What should we do? Is Heaven determined to destroy us?”
Countless people in various places despaired. If cultivators were despairing, what of the ordinary people? They did not even have a right to resist.
“Is this true, Grandfather? Is this the reason the dark beings came back?”
A beautiful young woman was supporting the weight of a staggering old man. There was a sense of anxiety on her young face.
“No one knows whether such news is true. The only thing we’re certain about is that the Righteous Alliance has abandoned ordinary people like us. During this period, many universes fell into darkness. All vitality gone overnight. No one left alive. Sooner or later, such a fate will befall people like us. Oh, when will the darkness end?” The old man’s eyes were turbid and his voice was hoarse.
“What can people like us do?” The young woman was distressed.
“Perhaps we can pin our hopes on the Heavenslayers Alliance. But, I’ve heard some news that some other Force is secretly having a hand in this. They are amassing more power in hopes of making things happen according to their wishes.” A glint of shrewdness suddenly flashed across the old man’s eyes as he looked at the sky.
…
In the depths of the Righteous Alliance were magnificent palaces. They were among the stars.
After Forces such as the Main Happiness Celestial Dynasty, Whirling Sanctuary, and Imperial South Kingdom joined the Alliance, the Righteous Alliance became even more powerful. They now eclipsed how they were before they signed a peace treaty with the dark beings.
There were all sorts of arguments and discussions. All spoken ill about the Righteous Alliance. However, not like they cared about their reputation at this point.
The fact that dark beings had stopped harassing them was the best thing for the members of the Righteous Alliance.
“The rumours spreading around outside is laughable. Do they think we’ve signed a peace treaty because we’re afraid of the dark beings?”
“If they don’t even understand that it’s a temporary measure to stall for more time, it’s no wonder they’re used as the nutrients for their Grand Ceremony. What fools.”
“I suppose the Alliance Leader has summoned us to discuss this matter.”
The palaces in the depths of the Righteous Alliance were massive. They were well-connected and radiated lights as though they were made from stars. Between the cloisters that connected these palaces stood several stone bridges. Some vague figures surrounded by a mist were striding towards the palace in the centre.
The palace was much grander than the surrounding ones. Even its door extended into the sky. The waterfall of Chaos was splendid.
After these figures arrived, more beings came at a later time. There were giants as enormous as mountains and midgets that seemed to be made of fire. In short, various Races and Civilisation Systems were included.
…
It was a dilapidated temple that was full of broken pillars, candles, statues, and lotus seats. No one would visit such a place. The floor was covered in a thick layer of dust, to show its disuse, as well as shattered cloths and wood panels.
The temple door had been taken away and used as firewood. In front of the temple were piles of ashes which were left behind who knows how long ago.
This was an area for the Commoners in the East Bearer Kingdom of the Little Western Sanctuary. Cultivators would not step foot inside this place.
There were many beasts in the ancient forests, but none of them developed any intelligence. They would eat raw meat. Sometimes, they would sit on some boulders and absorb the essence of the Moon when there was a Full Moon.
It was said that there was the Temple of Great Strength in this place hundreds of years ago. It was a magnificent temple with numerous monks. Many visited the temple each day. Even the wealthy of surrounding counties would come over and burn some incense sticks, donating fund for blessings.
However, one night, a gale suddenly gusted through the area. The sky was covered in dark clouds.
Villagers at the bottom of the mountain could see red lightning striking from the sky. It was as though Heaven was enraged, punishing them. One could see the phenomenon from thousands of kilometres away. They could also faintly hear some strange howling.
The next morning, the villagers went up the mountain and discovered in shock that the magnificent temple had collapsed and turned into ruins overnight.
The statue in the Temple of Great Strength was seen with bloody tears, head lopped off, lying on the ground. Moreover, all the monks had vanished overnight, leaving no traces behind.
When they saw such an eerie sight, their faces paled in an instant. Then, they anxiously ran down the mountain.
News soon spread among the villagers. Even those from nearby counties soon found out about it.
In the following years, the wealthy people who used to frequently visit the temple suffered terrible fates. Some lost their jobs as government officials, some lost all their fortunes. In the worst-case scenario, some lost their Wives and children. All ended up in a terrible state.
Then, the place was abandoned. Other than some bold hunters who would do some hunting and get some rest in the temple to avoid beasts, the other villagers dared not even bring it up as a topic for discussion, let alone go up the mountain.
“Fairy, this is everything I know. Please let me go back to my village.”
Presently, an honest-looking villager was fearfully leading the way for a white-clothed beautiful woman. They soon arrived at the dilapidated temple.
An old man with a hunched back who was clad in a Daoist robe calmly stood in front of the temple. It seemed like he was waiting for something.
“Nice to see you again, Fairy Liuyun.” When he heard the noise, he opened his eyes and glanced at the white-clothed woman. Then, he spoke with a smile.
The white-clothed woman only shot him a look in silence. A moment later, a charming and languid voice was heard saying, “It’s so difficult to find this place.
“The Little Western Sanctuary has always been governed by the Little Western Paradise. Those monks hate Daoist priests. Who would have thought that the Decay Realm’s portal was hidden in the Little Western Sanctuary? How interesting.”
“Those from the Decay Legion love putting on pretences. I wonder if the Little Western Paradise is merely a front supported by the Decay Legion.”
A luxurious carriage lifted by several alluring women was seen approaching the white-clothed woman from behind.
There was a hint of shrewdness behind the Old Daoist Priest’s eyes. He cupped his fists and said with a smile, “Greetings, Priestess Qi Luo. I am Wu Xuzi.”
The Little Western Sanctuary was a vast Realm in the Boundless Expanse. It consisted of many Advanced Thousand Worlds as well as countless Basic and Intermediate Thousand Worlds. There was also a multiverse that could accommodate experts in the Dao Realm.
Buddhism was the main religion in the Little Western Sanctuary. The most powerful Force was called Little Western Paradise. It ruled over many Buddhist Sects, and its might was as great as that of an average Supreme Civilisation.
“You’ve intentionally lured me to the Decay Realm’s portal. Aren’t you worried I’ll expose your whereabouts?”
The luxurious carriage landed on the ground. The maidservants drew the curtains open.
A charming and languid woman stepped out of it. She was clad in a red robe. Her shoulders were slightly revealed since her hair had been tied up. Her snow-like skin was glowing. Everything she did was charming. Any woman would pale in comparison when standing beside her.
She was Priestess Qi Luo, who was ranked fourth in the Heaven Legion.
The Old Daoist Priest named Wu Xuzi said with a smile, “This is merely an illusory fissure, not the real portal. Even if you expose it, it won’t affect us by much.”
A glint flashed across Priestess Qi Luo’s eyes as she said with a smile, “This is such an incredible move. I didn’t even realise it was an illusory fissure. It seems that even this temple is a base all of you have intentionally left behind. Ordinary people will not realise that.”
Then, as she waved her red sleeve, the black mist suddenly streamed towards the ruined temple and drowned it.
