Lan Xin was both alluring and curvaceous. Clad in a light blue dress, her silky hair had been tied into a bun and fixed with a wooden hairpin, which made her look far more elegant.
“Senior Sister Lan Xin.” Gu Xianer obediently went over and stood beside her.
The companions of Lan Xin furrowed their brows when they saw Gu Xianer approaching them. Some moved away to avoid her. Many of them remained silent to show Lan Xin some respect, but they could hardly conceal their iciness and disdain.
The Waning Moon Sect had many Disciples. Gu Xianer was the first one who was summoned to see the Sect Master and then sent away even though she was this gifted.
Back then, many Elders felt that she would be a future star in the Waning Moon Sect.
Much to their surprise, after the Sect Master spoke to her, he did not take her on as his Direct Disciple. Instead, he pointed out that since Gu Xianer had come into contact with a jinx, they should not approach her to avoid forming a karmic connection with her.
The incident caused a commotion in the Waning Moon Sect.
Gu Xianer became famous among the young Disciples and Elders.
Still, the Sect Master was in a dilemma. He was not willing to let a person so much potential like her go. Therefore, he told other Elders to come up with a way to accept her.
Nevertheless, those Elders directly turned him down. They dare not agree to it regardless of how talented Gu Xianer was.
At their level, karma was important.
If someone as powerful as the Sect Master was not willing to accept Gu Xianer, they naturally would not agree to it either. They were worried about bringing trouble to themselves and that their effort in cultivating would get wasted.
The incident became a true farce in the Waning Moon Sect.
In the end, the Sect Master considered everything and agreed to let Gu Xianer stay in the Waning Moon Sect, but she would cultivate as an ordinary Disciple.
After the incident, the Elders and Disciples avoided coming into contact with her.
This was all because Gu Xianer was brought to the Waning Moon Mountain by the seemingly insane old woman.
Everyone in the Waning Moon Sect knew this old woman.
It was said that she used to be an ancient powerful being, but she lost her mind for some reason. She rarely had a clear-head and always acted like a mad woman.
Those of the Waning Moon Sect had no idea how she found the Waning Moon Mountain. They only knew that she loved wandering around the nearby mountains and lakes.
Some Ancestors of the Waning Moon Sect had tried to chase her away, but all of their attempts failed.
On the other hand, the insane old woman lightly waved her sleeve and sent them flying, leaving many from the Waning Moon Sect terrified.
It was for this reason that the people of the Waning Moon Sect never dared to chase her away again.
However, some Disciples and Elders could tell that the old woman was strong, so they intended to get some benefits out of her. Since she was mentally unstable, it might be easy to fool her. Therefore, they searched around for her, trying to imitate the way she cultivated. Some even wanted to receive guidance from her.
Although the old woman was not of sound mind, she never hurt anyone, nor did she have any ill intentions.
In those rare moments when she was clear-headed, she would give those Disciples and Elders some guidance, which greatly benefited them.
Nevertheless, those Disciples and Elders ended up falling into danger not long after coming into contact with her.
Some failed to breakthrough and died when they were in seclusion. Some suffered damage to their Souls, thus becoming no different to walking dead. Some were killed by the repercussions of battles between powerful beings when they ventured into the outside world. Some were destroyed then when their enemies came to get their revenge. None of them remained safe, and all eventually died.
If not death, they either became mad or crippled. Those who were killed were the luckiest because they did not have to suffer through such torment.
All these coincidences made everyone in the Waning Moon Sect shocked and fearful. Even those Ancestors found this matter eerie. They were so frightened that they were drowned in sweat even when the weather was fine.
Disciples and Elders who had come into contact with the insane old woman grew apprehensive. They started to believe it must be a curse.
Their speculation was proven right. No one was safe. Those who had received guidance from the insane old woman or imitated the way she cultivated ended up in a horrible state.
Therefore, all of them from the Waning Moon Sect were terrified of the old woman, whom they could neither defeat nor chase away. They even considered relocating to a different location to avoid her.
Many ancient beings concluded that the old woman went insane because she had come into contact with something ominous beyond comprehension. As such, those who had come into contact with her would suffer the same horrendous luck as well.
They would not have to worry about it as long as they avoided approaching her. It was for this reason that all the Disciples from the Waning Moon Sect distanced themselves from Gu Xianer. They did not want to suffer from interacting with her.
Many Elders and Disciples even hoped that she would leave the Sect or die a horrible death sooner.
“Senior Sister Lan Xin, we all know that you’re kind-hearted, but you’re not supposed to get close to that woman. Don’t forget that she has come into contact with that jinx. If you spend too much time with her, you might suffer from misfortune as well.” A woman clad in a pink blouse and a white dress came over. When she saw that Lan Xin stood beside Gu Xianer, she frowned and spoke in a meaningful tone.
“Stop saying such nonsense, Xu Hui. It has been so long since Junior Sister Xianer joined the Waning Moon Sect. Do you see anything bad happening to her? Junior Sister Xianer treats everyone well, and is so obedient, yet all of you treat her like this.”
Lan Xin’s face fell when she saw the woman. She could hardly conceal her disdain.
When the young Disciples saw that, they tactfully moved away, refusing to interfere in their conflict.
The woman named Xu Hui sneered and said, “I’ve never oppressed her. I’ll just stay away from her whenever I see her. She’s inauspicious, an eyesore in the Sect.”
“Come at me if you’re displeased with me. Why are you humiliating Junior Sister Xianer like this?” Lan Xin donned a dark expression and her gaze was icy.
She and Xu Hui were always on bad terms. It could be said that they were rivals.
Naturally, this had something to do with their Masters. There was an irresolvable feud between both parties.
However, since she was the more powerful one, Xu Hui was wary of her and would usually avoid her. It was unlike now, when Xu Hui dared to boldly go against her.
Lan Xin suspected that Xu Hui’s Master might have instructed her to do so, and the innocent Gu Xianer was dragged into their petty conflict.
“You’re still so haughty, Senior Sister Lan Xin. I’ll see if you still can be so smug after today.” There was a hint of mockery on Xu Hui’s face. She sneered and turned around to leave, ignoring Lan Xin’s furious stare.
She had never spared Gu Xianer a glance as though the latter was invisible.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into this, Junior Sister Xianer. I was her target.” After Xu Hui was gone, Lan Xin spoke apologetically to Gu Xianer.
Gu Xianer still looked pliant. She shook her head upon hearing that. “You don’t have to apologise, Senior Sister Lan Xin. You know I don’t care about it.”
Lan Xin smiled. “I don’t know what got into Xu Hui that prompted her to say such things.”
Gu Xianer gave it some thought and whispered, “Senior Sister Lan Xin, don’t you think there’s an underlying meaning behind what she said? It seems that she’s aware of the reason all the Elders and Disciples are gathered here today.”
Lan Xin only realised something was off upon hearing her words. She furrowed her brows. “You have a point. Why did Xu Hui say that?”
Suddenly, a commotion happened in the distance. Lan Xin snapped back to reality and looked in that direction. Then, she was startled.
A handsome and elegant young man clad in white clothes with cloud patterns came over while surrounded by many young Disciples. He was tall and there was a graceful smile on his face. His eyes were gentle and bright. He looked like an upright nobleman.
“Senior Brother Song Yu…” Lan Xin muttered. A hint of admiration flashed across her eyes as she felt conflicted.
Song Yu was undoubtedly the most brilliant youth of the current generation in the Waning Moon Sect. Not only was he talented and lucky, his cultivation was also inscrutable.
Even a confident prodigy with a firm Dao Heart like Lan Xin admired him. She knew that she was not a match for him.
Just like his name, Song Yu was always gentle when treating others. He was approachable and his reputation was great. Almost all Elders liked him.
“Senior Brother Song Yu is back…”
“It’s said that Senior Brother Song Yu went to train in the chaotic Flourishing Light Ancient Territory. I’ve heard that even Ancestral Dao Realm experts might perish there.”
“I wonder what opportunity Senior Brother Song Yu came across in the Flourishing Light Ancient Territory. I feel like his cultivation has improved significantly and become even more abstruse.”
Many Disciples whispered among themselves when they saw the young man. They could hardly conceal their admiration.
Even Xu Hui, who had just argued with Lan Xin, was full of admiration.
[The most brilliant young Disciple of the Waning Moon Sect…] Gu Xianer pocketed her gaze and thought to herself.
She knew that she had to conceal her true strength, so she never showcased it to anyone. Nevertheless, when she studied the young man named Song Yu earlier, she felt a sense of danger.
It seemed that Song Yu was more complex than he appeared to be.
As many Elders and Disciples gathered in the main square of the Waning Moon Sect, the Sect Master, the Great Elder, and the others appeared at the head.
The Sect Master of the Waning Moon Sect was a thin but energetic old man. He was holding a whisk while a mysterious aura surrounded him.
Upon closer look, one would realise there were all sorts of strange lights in the void behind him.
Beside the Sect Master was a man clad in a cloak with a long scar on his face. He squinted his eyes and swept a glance over these Elders and Disciples.
The other Elders were polite to this man.
“He’s an Envoy from the Righteous Alliance. He’s come to the Waning Moon Sect to make an announcement. It’s for this reason that I’ve gathered all of you here.” The Sect Master swept a glance over them and spoke. In a hoarse voice, he introduced the man and talked about his intention.
Those dark beings had become even more dangerous. Unlike how chaotic they were in the past, they were now taking action in an orderly manner.
As of late, many teams of the Righteous Alliance were ambushed and killed by those dark beings.
An Ancestral Dao Realm expert even lost his life. He was besieged by powerful dark beings and lost his life in an instant, with reinforcement not even having a chance to save him.
The incident caused an uproar in the Righteous Alliance, making many feel apprehensive.
To deal with that, different Forces within the Righteous Alliance had a huge discussion. They soon decided that the most powerful Elders of their Forces would form a team of Envoys.
Then, this team of Envoys would head to the Heavenslayers Alliance and negotiate with them, hoping to put aside their differences so that they could establish a covenant to solely focus on deal with the dark beings for now.
After all, neither the Righteous Alliance nor the Heavenslayers Alliance could deal with the Black Disaster on their own.
The only solution was for both parties to collaborate and go against their common enemy.
“What?” Upon hearing the Sect Master’s explanation, all the Elders and Disciples were rooted to the spot.
“They’re forming a team of Envoys who will head to the Heavenslayers Alliance?”
“Are we talking about that Heavenslayers Alliance?”
When the Elders came to their senses, they donned dark expressions. They were slightly fearful and worried.
In their opinion, the Heavenslayers Alliance was not any different from those dark beings. During this period, those from the Heavenslayers Alliance had seized the chance to occupy many Civilisations and True Worlds.
All the Forces that went against them were destroyed and buried in the River of Time. They disappeared into nothingness. Moreover, there were all sorts of terrifying rumours about the Heavenslayers Alliance.
Their Alliance Leader was unimaginably powerful and had all sorts of inconceivable Techniques.
Living beings who had come into contact with him, regardless of their cultivation level, would be enslaved and become his followers.
Even the Great Sage, who stood up against the Black Disaster in the past, was now his subordinate. She would go around to wage wars in his behalf.
In the territories of the Heavenslayers Alliance, countless Heavenslayers Temples had been erected to worship their Alliance Leader. The temples were always full of the smoke from incense.
Even at a time when the Black Disaster had devastated the Boundless Expanse, those from the Heavenslayers Alliance still relentlessly waged wars to expand their territories.
To the other Civilisations and True Worlds, those from the Heavenslayers Alliance were no different from Demons. Living beings who dared to approach their nest would never be able to come out alive.
Under such a circumstance, it was inconceivable that they were trying to form a team of Envoys. They would need to head to the Heavenslayers Alliance, and have a ‘discussion’ with them. How could anyone be so naive?
It was no different from sending those Envoys to Hell.
At this moment, the Elders of the Waning Moon Sect donned dark expressions and cursed in their hearts. They wondered which brainless fool came up with this terrible idea. Perhaps that person was a mole from the Heavenslayers Alliance who intended to send them to Hell.
“Since the Envoy from the Righteous Alliance is here, I suppose candidates are being selected. There’s no turning back unless we dare to defy the rules of the Righteous Alliance.”
“But it’s no different from telling us to go to Hell.”
“Will the chosen Elders be able to survive?”
The Elders of the Waning Moon Sect were vexed and bitter. It was pointless for them to be furious, though. They could only pray that they would not be selected.
If they left the Waning Moon Sect and headed to the Heavenslayers Alliance, they would be besieged by those dark beings. Even if they managed to arrive at the Heavenslayers Alliance, they would not have a chance to return.
From the looks of it, those from the Heavenslayers Alliance had never taken the Righteous Alliance seriously. There was no way they would welcome this team of Envoys.
“Why is this even happening? It’s like making each Force choose an Elder who will bring their Disciple to Hell.” Lan Xin, who was among the crowd, was in a dazed state as she found everything inconceivable.
She did not expect the Sect Master to gather all the Disciples and Elders for this matter.
Gu Xianer’s eyes widened in disbelief as she was unable to come to her senses.
She had heard the name Heavenslayers Alliance many times. [Is this Heavenslayers Alliance the same as the one I’m familiar with?]
Just then, Lan Xin noticed a pair of scornful eyes. She turned her head and saw Xu Hui looking gleefully at her. The woman never concealed her mockery.
[What’s the meaning of this?] Lan Xin suddenly had a premonition.
The spacious square was unusually silent. All the Elders and Disciples kept their mouths shut.
Upon finishing his words, the Sect Master looked helpless and guilty as well. Then, he shifted his attention to a woman whose hair had been tied into a bun. She was wearing a shawl and a grey long dress.
Silavin: Song Yu’s name, 徐玉, the 徐 means gentle.
