“I wonder what cultivation level this woman has reached when she was at her peak. I came across her at the waterfall and took her back. But, such a terrifying sight has already appeared when she has only just awakened.” The white-clothed young woman was startled as her eyes widened in disbelief. She did not go near the white jade bed. Instead, she stood far away from it while vigilant.
Streaks of Chaotic Light swirled around the white-clothed woman, making the void look like it was about to collapse.
These streaks of Chaotic Light clashed with one another and disappeared, causing a part of that space to break apart. It showed that these streaks of Chaotic Light contained immense power and could easily destroy the world.
At this point, she dared not go close and put her life at risk.
The red bird followed her and stuck out its head. Then, it said cautiously, “When you were away from the Supreme Cave, I wouldn’t even dare get close to her. Even when this woman was badly injured and unconscious, she was terrifying. There is incredible power within her body. Anyone who dares to approach her will die a horrible death in an instant.”
“When I took her back from the waterfall, she was soaked in blood and her vitality was mostly gone. I hesitated for a long time before picking her up… No, I should say I’d saved her. I thought I might take the gamble. I just hope that she’s not an ungrateful person. Anyway, she’s almost as beautiful as I am. She can’t be a terrible person if she’s that beautiful, right?” the white-clothed young woman muttered under her breath as her delicate eyebrows were knitted together.
Upon hearing that, the red bird almost rolled its eyes. It was inconceivable that she was still so narcissistic at this point.
The red bird remembered clearly that at that time, Gu Xianer said she would take the white-clothed woman back and let her meet her own fate. As for whether the woman would survive, it depended on her luck.
Naturally, Gu Xianer was unable to help a horrifying being like the white-clothed woman when the latter was so badly injured. All her valuable pills would not help.
Just as Gu Xianer and the red bird were whispering among themselves, the white-clothed woman on the white jade bed suddenly moved as her eyelashes fluttered.
Her eyes, which were as clear as moonlight, suddenly opened as she stared at the ceiling of the Supreme Cave.
She still seemed bewildered as though not having fully regained her senses. Even her eyes seemed out of focus, in a dazed state.
Upon seeing that, Gu Xianer and the red bird quickly kept their mouths shut while vigilantly waiting for the white-clothed woman’s next move.
“Ouch… My head hurts… Where is it?” The white-clothed woman was not aware of their presence them. She lifted her slender hand and touched her forehead before getting up from the white jade bed. Her voice was pleasant to hear. It was like a breeze in spring.
Although her clothes were still stained with blood, it did not affect her beauty and elegance.
Even Gu Xianer had to acknowledge that the white-clothed woman was the most beautiful woman she had ever come across since she ventured into the Boundless Expanse.
Her face was flawless and delicate. Her brows were dark, her nose was upturned, and her eyes were clear. Her lips were naturally red and well defined. It was as though she was a masterpiece made by Heaven. She had no flaws.
If she smiled, she would make all the men in the world fall for her and willingly do anything for her.
“A beautiful woman like her was badly injured and almost lost her life. I wonder who her nemesis is. It’s unbelievable that a person would have the heart to kill her. I don’t even have the heart to hurt her…” Gu Xianer muttered and studied the white-clothed woman before her eyes. It seemed like she was appreciating the most beautiful thing in the world.
The red bird rolled its eyes when it saw that. The creature felt that Gu Xianer was being narcissistic as she found similarities between the white-clothed woman and herself.
She was like a bud, so how did she have the nerve to compare herself to the white-clothed woman who was like a fully bloomed flower?
“Who are you?” It was only then did the white-clothed woman notice Gu Xianer and the red bird. She looked perplexed.
Gu Xianer stared at her and let down her guard. She could tell that even though the white-clothed woman had just awakened, something was off about her mental state. It seemed that her Soul had been damaged, which was why she had forgotten about many matters.
After clearing her throat, Gu Xianer pretended to be calm and placed her hands behind her back. She went over and said, “This is my Supreme Cave. I was the one who saved you and brought you back from the waterfall.”
“Huh?” The white-clothed woman glanced at her while looking bewildered. Her head aching terribly as though it was about to explode. She could not recall anything. She could not remember her background, her identity, her name, and why she was here.
“You saved me?” Muttered the white-clothed woman.
Suddenly, some vague images flashed across her mind. The sky had broken apart as its fragments fell. There was an enormous black lotus as the black mist surged. Also, a man whose eyes were emotionless and icy.
[Who is that? Why do I tremble in fear whenever I remember the look of those eyes?] She covered her aching head with both hands.
She indeed recalled some images, but she only remembered that she was struck by the vague figure, after which she fell into endless darkness.
As for who the vague figure was, she had no idea. She also didn’t know why she would feel helpless, fearful, and despondent when she looked at him.
“Senior, I’m afraid your Soul has been damaged. Since you’ve just awakened, you’d better not try to recall anything first. You should prioritise on resting and healing first.” Gu Xianer did not expect that her words would make the white-clothed woman suffer such pain.
She did not have the heart to see her suffer, so she stopped her pretence and persuaded her to focus on recuperating in a small voice.
“Many thanks for saving my life. I’ll repay this favour.” The white-clothed woman’s face was pale. Trying to recall some memories indeed made her head ache terribly, so she had no choice but to give up.
She drew a breath to calm herself down. Then, she forced a smile and thanked Gu Xianer.
Gu Xianer shook her head. “I didn’t really help much, Senior. I merely brought you back from the waterfall.”
“Regardless, you indeed saved me. Otherwise, it would’ve taken me a longer time to awaken.” The white-clothed woman smiled and looked at the young woman who was also clad in white clothes. Perhaps it was because the young woman had saved her, she instantly took a liking to her.
Gu Xianer had been wary the entire time. She was finally relieved.
She would’ve used her trump card and fled if the white-clothed woman were an ungrateful person.
“Senior, is this something important to you? You held onto it tightly even though you were unconscious.” Just then, Gu Xianer picked up a slightly rusty ancient bronze mirror from the jade table and passed it to the white-clothed woman.
The bronze mirror was small and the edge was indistinct. It seemed that the mirror had been around for a long time as the surface was slightly rusty.
The pictures on the back of the mirror were almost indistinguishable. One could faintly identify that it wasn’t an item from this era. The pictures included people worshipping Heaven in ancient times and ancient ferocious beasts such as Pixiu, Yazi, and Kui.
“This is…” The white-clothed woman was still bewildered when Gu Xianer presented the bronze mirror to her. She found the bronze mirror familiar and felt that it was important to her, but she could not remember anything about it.
After giving it some thought, she decided to take it.
Although Gu Xianer knew nothing about the bronze mirror, she knew it must be extraordinary as this Senior treasured it.
She was initially curious, but she stopped caring about it after examining the mirror. She had no intention of holding onto it.
On the other hand, the red bird kept telling her that it was an incredible item. However, even though Gu Xianer was greedy, she had principles she stuck to. She would not steal someone else’s treasure.
Then, she explained to the white-clothed woman where they were.
The white-clothed woman’s background was mysterious and she was badly hurt. It was apparent that she had fought a powerful enemy. Therefore, Gu Xianer did not inform those from the Waning Moon Sect about it, worried she might bring trouble onto herself.
Now that the white-clothed woman seemed like she was suffering from amnesia, Gu Xianer naturally would not expose her whereabouts.
The white-clothed woman felt guilty and bashful. Since her injury would not heal in a short time, she naturally could not leave this place. As such, she had to let Gu Xianer look after her during this period.
Gu Xianer also used the alias Ku Xianer instead of her real name.
In the following days, the white-clothed woman rested and recuperated in the Supreme Cave.
On the other hand, Gu Xianer had been digesting the benefits she had acquired from the training to prepare to refine the Sword Dao True Essence.
Although the white-clothed woman was suffering from amnesia, it did not affect her experience and judgement. She could easily point out her problems and give her some guidance when Gu Xianer cultivated.
This came as a pleasant surprise to Gu Xianer. Since she ventured into the Boundless Expanse, she had been exploring everything on her own. No one would give her any guidance.
Now, this white-clothed woman could easily give her some guidance and make her understand things she previously found puzzling.
In just a few days, she learned significantly more than she did in the past few years. They also got along quite well.
However, something strange happened a few days later.
One night, dark clouds emerged and concealed all the stars and the Moon in the sky.
The entire land became pitch-black and fell into dead silence.
Suddenly, someone was heard weeping. The voice spread across the land under the dark sky and reverberated across mountain ranges. Beasts were fearful and apparitions trembled in fear. The atmosphere was eerie.
An indescribable icy aura spread across the mountains.
An invisible portal seemed to have opened up in the void. Those invisible figures stepped out of it and wandered around. As they moved around the mountains and rivers, they were heard sobbing.
In the Supreme Cave, the red bird which was snoring in its nest awakened in shock. It was so fearful that all its feathers stood on end.
“Xianer, the voice is back…” The creature fluttered its wings and screamed while looking appalled.
Gu Xianer was seated on a cushion. When she heard the noise, she looked out of the cave with a frown.
Although she was not as frightened as the red bird, she was anxious as well.
During her stay in the Waning Moon Sect, she had heard this kind of weeping on several occasions. The voice was truly eerie.
It was no wonder that those from the Waning Moon Sect regarded this place as inauspicious.
“The voice will die down in a few hours. Just don’t leave the cave during this period.” Gu Xianer said in a small voice.
She seemed worried that if she was too loud, those invisible figures outside the cave would stop and watch.
“Something terrible must have happened here in the past.” Just then, the white-clothed woman in the Supreme Cave got out of the white jade bed and walked up to the entrance. She was trying to watch what was happening outside the cave through the Restriction.
However, it was pitch-dark outside the cave as all the stars and the Moon were concealed.
Gu Xianer approached her and whispered, “Do you see anything, Senior?”
The white-clothed woman gave it some thought with a frown. Then, she shook her head. “No. I just feel that it’s an evocation to bring an ancient spirit back to the Mortal World.”
[An evocation to bring an ancient spirit back to the Mortal World?] Gu Xianer was startled. She was suddenly not so terrified when she heard that.
The white-clothed woman smiled and glanced at her. “Why don’t we go out and have a look?”
Gu Xianer was suddenly much braver as she agreed to it without much hesitation.
The white-clothed woman waved her hand and the two of them disappeared from the cave. When they reappeared, they were already in the dark and icy ruins.
They could faintly see that there were collapsed buildings such as pavilions, towers, temples, palaces, and some pillars. The area was covered in moss and grass. In some places, broken bones could be seen. There were also pieces of weapons and furnaces and cauldrons.
Gu Xianer clenched her clothes, feeling cold all over her body. She felt that some invisible beings had walked past her. Some were watching her from behind.
The chilling breezes gave her goosebumps.
Just then, the sounds of weeping were heard again. Gu Xianer’s pupils dilated. In the distance, a gap was suddenly formed in the dark clouds as a streak of moonlight shone on the ground.
A shrivelled figure with unkempt hair and a hunched back appeared on the mound. Her pale face was covered in her long hair. She was crying under the moonlight as her tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Grandma…” Gu Xianer exclaimed as she recognised the person.
The woman was the one who saved her life and brought her to the Waning Moon Mountain.
Everyone from the Waning Moon Sect regarded the old woman as ominous. A jinx. She was usually nowhere to be found. Gu Xianer did not expect that the woman would appear in the ruins and weep at the Moon at this hour.
When the old woman with a hunched back and unkempt hair noticed their presence, she vanished into thin air.
The white-clothed woman was beside Gu Xianer. Her pupils dilated when she saw that.
“Such a powerful person like her is hidden in the mountains. I better stay in the Supreme Cave before I fully recover. Otherwise, I’ll be too conspicuous.” She muttered to herself.
Gu Xianer still had not recovered from her shock, so she was oblivious to the white-clothed woman’s words.
The next morning, the Sun rose from the horizon as the mountains were covered in a fog.
Gu Xianer had already left the Supreme Cave. She went to the ruins in an attempt to look for the old woman.
Nevertheless, there was no one else other than collapsed buildings.
She wandered around for a while but still could not find the old woman. As such, she could only give up.
Suddenly, the deafening sounds of a bell were heard reverberating across the Waning Moon Mountain.
Gu Xianer had just returned to the Supreme Cave when she had no choice but to leave for the Waning Moon Sect.
It was the most important ancient bell in the Waning Moon Sect. It would only be struck when something major had happened. It was used to gather the Elders and Disciples.
When Disciple of the Waning Moon Sect heard the sounds of the bell, they were obliged to go over.
They turned into rays of light and headed to the main square from their respective mountains and islands.
Some Elders and Disciples were already there.
Still, the massive square could accommodate countless people, as it was a world of its own.
When Gu Xianer arrived, there were already many Disciples of the same generation. Older Disciples and those from other eras were in front of her.
“Come over here, Junior Sister Xianer.” A soft voice called out to her.
