On the Floating Land, many residents came over in a hurry and looked at the horrifying scene outside the light barrier while trembling in fear.
In the distance, the sky had become transparent and a fog was streaming towards them.
They could even see that many substances in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea had become transparent. The substances were fragmented, and everything was turning vague and dark.
More terrifyingly, a black fog was coming to them like waves. There also did not seem to be an end to this darkness. The black fog passed through the Spacetime Rifts of the Chaotic Spacetime Sea. Every wisp contained bizarre-looking Atrophies and Shadows.
“Those are Atrophies and Shadows. They’re finally coming. The oracle left behind by the Holy Ancestor has come true. That day has eventually arrived…”
All the residents of the Floating Land were fearful. Their voices were shaky, and many of them were so despondent that they collapsed to the ground.
Some knelt and clasped their hands together to pray for their safety. Their faces were pale in this despairing situation.
Elder Zhu clenched the ancient Artifact in his hand. His already wrinkled face seemed to have grown older.
He looked at the scene outside the light screen for a moment before speaking to the people around him. “All of you, get ready to fight. We’ve been hiding for countless years, and it’s time we faced all these.”
They were the descendants of the Great Sages, who had hunted down by the remnants of the Black Disaster. Their Ancestors went into hiding and wandered around before eventually settling down on this land in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea.
Although some Atrophies and Shadows had come and attack them over the years, they managed to destroy all of them. Therefore, the existence of the Floating Land was never exposed.
However, as long as the remnants of the Black Disaster were still around, their location might get exposed one day.
They did not expect this day to come so soon, though. They were caught off guard.
The massive black fog was apparently coming to the Floating Land to destroy these descendants.
“We should’ve expected this day to come. The Black Disaster has never been annihilated, so the danger was never truly gone. The relic left behind by the Holy Ancestor is meant just for this day. Our feud with the remnants of the Black Disaster has been ongoing since our Ancestors’ time. There will never be an end to it.”
All six Major Families of the Floating Land had arrived. The old man holding the snake-patterned crutch was Wang Quan, an Elder of the Wang Family. He could be considered the person in charge of the Wang Family.
Behind him were the members of the Wang Family from all age groups. They were solemn and determined. It showed that they were ready to sacrifice themselves.
Besides the Wang Family, the other five Major Families were also there. Many ancient Artifacts had awakened and ancient runes flickered, showcasing their ancient powers.
Every ancient Artifact was seen hovering in the void. Divine Chains covered the entire sky like a waterfall. Lights of different colours surged and illuminated the sky.
“I’ll take out the sacred Artifacts left behind from the Holy Ancestor Pavilion to deal with this dark tide. We only have one chance to fend it off…” Elder Zhu was solemn as he swept a glance over the people of the Floating Land.
“Is Fairy Qing aware of this?” Asked a young woman in a red dress. She was the person in charge of the Shangguan Family. Her name was Shangguan Qing.
“She must be aware of this. There’s no way she can’t detect the reaction from the Holy Ancestor’s relic.” Elder Zhu said seriously.
The surging dark waves sounded like the ocean crashing the shores and rocks. The entire Chaotic Spacetime Sea trembled upon impact.
Eerie laughs were heard coming from the fog. Countless living creatures had formed a bizarre army as they moved in all directions and surrounded the Chaotic Spacetime Sea.
All the residents of the Floating Land were alarmed. Although they were ready, they still felt despondent and fearful. Some collapsed to the ground, and some knelt and sought the Holy Ancestor’s protection.
Suddenly, a divine light came over from a distance. A handsome young man arrived in a hurry. Some parts of his clothes were dyed red with blood and hot air billowed from him. It was apparent that he had just returned from a battle.
He was the person whom Elder Zhu had adopted, Zhu Xuan. The divine light dissipated and revealed a young man with an exceptional temperament.
“Grandfather, I’ve heard there’s a strange reaction from the Holy Ancestor’s relic.” Zhu Xuan immediately came up to Elder Zhu and asked him about what was going on.
“The remnants of the Black Disaster have discovered the Floating Land. I’m worried they intend to destroy us.” Elder Zhu sighed with a solemn expression. “Considering the scale of the darkness, I believe that the remnants of the Black Disaster have come up with a greater plan to devastate the Boundless Expanse. The Floating Land isn’t their only target.”
Upon hearing his words, Zhu Xuan was flabbergasted. At the same time, he was terrified deep within.
He looked at the scene outside the light screen. The massive black fog reminded him of some memories from the distant past.
…
It was a dark night, and the ground was dyed red with blood. Shrieks were heard as the breeze carried a metallic tang. A slender and dispassionate figure stood atop a mountain under the Red Moon. He calmly watched everything.
Many figures that carried wisps of black smoke were like monsters from Hell. They arrived from the void and mercilessly slaughtered all living beings.
As the wind gusted through the land, the fire spread quickly. Villages, palaces, mountains, and islands were set aflame.
“Were the remnants of the Black Disaster the ones who killed my people? Why!? What did my Family do wrong!?” Zhu Xuan’s gaze was icy as a murderous intent surged from him.
Elder Zhu sighed. He knew that Zhu Xuan had a special background, which was why the latter drifted to the Chaotic Spacetime Sea as an outsider.
Suddenly, a bright portal appeared in the distance. Behind it was a peak which exuded a sacred aura.
Hymns were heard reverberating across Heaven and Earth. A golden path formed and a woman whose hair had been tied up stood on top of it.
She was holding a wooden tray with both hands. On the wooden tray was a translucent bead the size of a fist. It was a wonder what the bead was made of. It exuded the aura of Great Dao and the Mist of Chaos.
“She’s Lady Tiea, who works for Fairy Qing.” The people of the Floating Land were pleasantly surprised when they saw the woman.
Fairy Qing was the Daughter of the Holy Ancestor, so she had a special status in the Floating Land.
“Lady Qing had expected this moment to come. She’s in seclusion, so she can’t get out for now. This is the Primordial Bead left behind by the Holy Ancestor. It contains a power that transcends the Ancestral Dao Realm. Moreover, with the protective barrier left behind by the Holy Ancestor, the dark tide will not be able to break through for the time being. There’s no need to worry…”
Tiea parted her lips and spoke. She swept a glance over Zhu Xuan before telling him to come over and take the Primordial Bead.
Zhu Xuan was startled for a moment. Then, many people watched with shock, envy, and puzzlement as he went over and respectfully took the wooden tray.
Anyway, many were aware that Zhu Xuan had been cultivating at the bottom of Holy Ancestor Mountain during this period. Sometimes, he would receive some guidance from Tiea.
In a way, Zhu Xuan could be considered a Half-Disciple of Fairy Qing, so it was only natural that he was given such an important task.
“The dark tide is far more violent this time. I’m worried there’ll be a calamity. Lady Tiea, when will Fairy Qing exit her seclusion?” Tiea was ready to leave upon passing the wooden tray to Zhu Xuan. Upon seeing that, Elder Zhu could not help but ask.
Although the residents of the Floating Land had good aptitudes in cultivation, it could be said that they were slow in improving because of a lack of cultivation resources here.
Over the years, only a small number of people had managed to ascend to the Dao Realm. Those were from the six Major Families.
Considering their strength, it was impossible for them to go against the dark tide. What was more, there were countless Atrophies and Shadows.
Those strange beings were terrifying. Ordinary cultivators were not a match for them.
“I have no idea when Lady Qing will come out. But, if the Floating Land is being invaded, Lady Qing won’t be able to turn things around either. All of you better get prepared.”
Tiea stopped in her tracks but did not turn around. Her calm voice was heard speaking.
These people were initially hopeful, but they felt disappointed and helpless upon hearing her words.
“Regardless, there’s still hope. The dark tide has suddenly appeared in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea and it’ll catch the attention of other Civilisations. If the remnants of the Black Disaster dares to show up again, the others will not put up with them. They’ll join hands once more to destroy them.” Zhu Xuan said promptly.
These people became less despondent upon hearing that.
Before they met their end, there might still be hope.
On top of Holy Ancestor Mountain stood a slender figure in green clothes who was wearing a face veil. She looked at what was happening in the Floating Land without any emotion behind her gaze.
“The darkness is coming…” she muttered.
In a valley of the Heavenslayers Alliance, Ling Yuxian gave it some thought and told her Older Sister to go somewhere else so that she could spend some time alone with Gu Changge.
She knew what the consequences would be for her Older Sister if she brought up the Chaotic Spacetime Sea to Gu Changge right in front of her.
However, she had no choice but to inform Gu Changge about it.
Therefore, after weighing the pros and cons, she still decided to make Ling Yuling move away and told Gu Changge about the matter in detail. She did not hide anything from him.
“These are the pieces of paper I found when sorting out my Older Sister’s notebooks. These are records about the abstrusities of several First-Generation Civilisation Supreme Treasures and how to use them. I think that the person who gave her these notes is the one who helped her prepare the Primary Hope Covenant. The person wanted her to collaborate with the Primary Hope Saintess and use the Mirror of Reincarnation to deal with you.”
“But, I believe my Older Sister would never try to scheme against you. That person left behind a trap in the Golden Book of Covenant. For some reason, my Sister was not willing to expose who it was. Also, that person most likely comes from the Chaotic Spacetime Sea, which is located in the depths of the Imperial Celestial Palace.” Upon finishing her words, Ling Yuxian fished out the notes written by her Older Sister.
The handwriting was beautiful and new. The words carried the fragrance of ink.
Gu Changge was still calm and collected. He took the notes and glanced at them.
“Have you come all the way here just to tell me these? Doesn’t that mean you have betrayed your Sister?” He smiled faintly and pocketed his gaze from the notes, not surprised at all.
Ling Yuling was a Great Sage, so she surely had some connections with Great Sages of the same era.
She returned to the Boundless Expanse after so many years, so she surely would try to contact those beings.
Gu Changge had intended to use Ling Yuling as bait. Nevertheless, those big fish were cautious and none took the bait.
“I just want to clear my Sister’s name since she’s innocent. Although she might blame me and even loathe me, I don’t wish for her to keep making these mistakes.” Ling Yuxian said in a small voice.
Gu Changge smiled. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell her about it. The two of you will remain as close as ever.”
Ling Yuxian was hesitant. On her way to this place, she had seen many things regarding the Heavenslayers Alliance. There were good as well as bad things. She was not sure if she should tell Gu Changge about them.
She felt that the Heavenslayers Alliance indeed had some bad reputation, especially in the remote areas where its members had little restraint.
She understood that no Force in the world was strict enough to make all its members adhere to all of its rules.
Although the Heavenslayers Alliance was powerful and ruled over the entire Primary Hope Civilisation, it had only been around for a short time. Its influence could not reach every corner of the Primary Hope Civilisation.
Gu Changge knew what Ling Yuxian wanted to say, but he had no intention of talking about it.
“I’ll ask some people to lead an army to venture into the Chaotic Spacetime Sea and capture the person behind your Sister. If things are just like what you’ve said, I’ll set her free.” He smiled faintly.
Then, Ling Yuxian did not stay for long. After bidding her Older Sister farewell, she quickly left the place.
Ling Yuling had no idea what her Younger Sister had told Gu Changge, but she could feel that something was off.
“Alliance Leader…”
In the afternoon, people like Old Man Sai Ya, Chu Heng, and White Bone Ancestor King arrived at the valley upon receiving the order.
“Take some people and head to the Chaotic Spacetime Sea. It’s located in the depths of the Imperial Celestial Palace. The mastermind who had ruined the Primary Hope Covenant is hiding there. I want all of you to capture that person and bring them to me,” Gu Changge ordered nonchalantly.
“Yes, Alliance Leader.” Some, like White Bone Ancestor King and Chu Heng, were startled for a moment before accepting the order.
Ling Yuling had been by Gu Changge’s side. Her expression changed when she heard his words.
“What’s hidden in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea?” Gu Changge glanced at her.
Ling Yuling lowered her gaze and clenched her sleeves. “I’m sorry.”
She had formed some speculation, given her intelligence. Ling Yuxian appeared guilty when she left.
Ling Yuling had never left the Imperial Celestial Palace during that period, so Ling Yuxian would surely suspect she had contacted the beings in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea, which was located in the depths of the Imperial Celestial Palace.
“But, the person who ruined the Primary Hope Covenant has nothing to do with the person in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea. I can swear on my life.” She appeared sincere and anxious.
“I’m curious now. What’s your relationship with the person in the Chaotic Spacetime Sea? Why are you hiding this person from me? Even at this point, you’re still unwilling to reveal any information even when you know that I can shatter your Soul and go through your memories if I want to. So, you’d better not make me run out of patience.”
Gu Changge appeared slightly helpless, but there was no emotion behind his gaze.
He shook his head and landed a finger between Ling Yuling’s brows. It was as though he could easily penetrate her Knowledge Sea at any moment.
Ling Yuling was startled, thinking that Gu Changge misunderstood something. She blushed and shook her head before explaining, “Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing to do with that person. She’s just a young woman. She’s the Daughter of my deceased friend. Since her identity is special, she has been living in the depths of the Chaotic Spacetime Sea over the years.”
