Chapter 1105, Turning the Tables

The Charming Fox Race, by virtue of their beauty, had drawn in no small number of subordinate experts.
On ordinary days, these experts were endlessly attentive, the very picture of those who would gladly have their heads cut off and their blood spilled for the Fox Race’s sake.
Yet regarding such things, the ancestral teachings of the Charming Fox Race, written in the blood-bought lessons of countless Charming Fox forebears, carried a warning.
‘Never place too much reliance on others.’
Once upon a time, Mei Ler had also believed these people would do anything for her sake. Yet the scene before her eyes made her understand, with profound and aching clarity, the truth behind every one of those lessons.
Even so, the Charming Fox Race dared not fall out with those subordinate experts. For without them, the Charming Fox Race would very likely become mere playthings in others’ hands.
As for those experts departing, Shi Weixi had watched that as well, though he made no move to stop them. Right now, what he most wanted was to flay and pull the tendons from that brat hovering in mid-air, surrounded on all sides, and then deal with Mei Ler at his leisure.
And as for the encircled Qin Yichen, his expression remained as unbothered as ever. Even watching those guards flee like startled birds below, he looked precisely as though he had anticipated it, and his face showed not the slightest ripple.
“Putting on airs!” Gazing up at that slender silhouette standing upright in mid-air, Shi Weixi’s palm rose slightly, ready to issue the order that would transform the surrounding tribesmen into a pack of raging lions tearing the latter to shreds.
“Who gave you the audacity to raise your hand in our Elf Forest?!”
Yet just as Shi Weixi prepared to roar the command, an authoritative voice, like a thunderclap from Heaven, exploded without warning through the air above.
Under that voice, the Sky Lions who had a moment ago been so ferociously charged had their auras shrink back as one, every last one of them looking as though they had taken a heavy blow.
Then, from the distant horizon, a streak of snow-white radiance came howling across the sky and came to rest in mid-air.
When the silhouette became clear, Shi Weixi’s expression changed abruptly.
It was, unmistakably, a Fire Elf Deacon, riding atop his Unicorn. It was Fiery.
The Elf Race was nothing like the Sky Lion Race. Although the Elf Race had long dwelt in seclusion within the Elf Forest, never stirring up trouble outside, no Race on the continent had forgotten what a terrifying sight it had been when the Elf Race had once bared its fangs.
The Sky Lion Race, capable as they were of bullying plenty of weaker Races, had absolutely no standing to strut about in front of the Elf Race.
“I am Shi Weixi of the Sky Lion Race. Greetings, Deacon.” For Fiery, no small number of merchants at the Merchandise Fair had laid eyes on him before. Shi Weixi hurriedly performed a deep bow, calling out with all appropriate respect.
“Shi Weixi? The Sky Lion Race?” Fiery swept a cold glance over Shi Weixi, asking mildly.
“Precisely, precisely!” Shi Weixi bowed and nodded repeatedly.
“Oh, it seems the Sky Lion Race has been doing rather well for itself.” Fiery’s gaze swept across the assembled Sky Lions, his tone cool.
Hearing this, Shi Weixi had not even managed to feel pleased before the latter’s next sentence plunged him into something that felt very much like stepping into an ice cellar.
“To think they now dare raise their hands within our forest. The Sky Lion Race has indeed grown formidable.”
“Deacon, this is a misunderstanding!” On hearing that, Shi Weixi’s body shuddered and he dropped directly to his knees. Then his gaze fell upon Qin Yichen, his expression instantly shifting into someone who had his Ancestors wrongly accused of a grave crime, and in a voice thick with tears he said, “Deacon, it was this fellow who struck first. Two of my people were injured by him. I beg you to investigate clearly, Deacon!”
Off to one side, the two Sky Lions who had previously been struck by Qin Yichen were likewise wearing faces full of grievance, their auras appearing even more feeble than before.
They acted precisely as that of genuine victims.
“Deacon, it was not like that…” Witnessing this, Mei Ler hastened to open her mouth in explanation. “It was Shi Weixi who first harboured improper intentions toward me. Qin Yichen was simply here to help me.”
It was rather obvious that the words of a weak evidence-less woman mattered very little here. She was not able to match the old cunningness of Shi Weixi and his like.
At this moment, from a distance, the urgent sound of wind being cleft apart rose up, and presently an Elf Race patrol squad came rushing in.
Clearly, under the Elf Queen’s orders, the Elf Race maintained an extremely high degree of vigilance throughout. Even within the Elf Forest, any disturbance was detected and responded to with speed.
“Greetings, Deacon!”
Upon catching sight of Fiery hovering in mid-air, the patrol squad bent slightly at the waist in unison.
“What happened here?”
Fiery gave a mild nod, whereupon the patrol’s gaze shifted to the scene below. The leading Elf’s brow furrowed as he asked.
“Sir… It’s like this…” Seeing the Elf patrol had arrived, Shi Weixi repeated his earlier explanation once more.
Then, pointing at Qin Yichen with an expression of bitter indignation, he said, “I merely wanted to restrain him and wait for the ever powerful Elves to come and settle matters for me.”
Having heard Shi Weixi’s account, the Elf patrol squad captain’s gaze turned toward Qin Yichen. When he sensed that the latter’s aura was no more than Early Stage Martial Ancestor, he was inwardly struck with astonishment.
Sky Lions were by no means weak within their own cultivation level. For this fellow, relying on the same cultivation level, to have struck down two Sky Lions without taking so much as a scratch, the Race standing behind him must be extraordinarily powerful.
Even so, regardless of which Race he hailed from, anyone who dared cause trouble on Elf Race territory had to pay the corresponding price.
“Deacon, please pass judgement…” Although the situation before them was rather transparent, out of courtesy, the Elf patrol squad captain still turned respectfully toward Fiery in mid-air to seek his guidance.
“Deacon, you must act to bring justice to the innocent!” Shi Weixi also turned to Fiery with an expression of earnest entreaty.
Truth be told, he wished to personally teach Qin Yichen a lesson, but with the Elves now intervening, self-preservation had to come first.
“For raising a hand within the Elf Forest, regardless of which side, have their cultivation stripped and cast them out.” Fiery’s eyes swept briefly below. His mild voice carried within it a quality that made the chest feel oddly tight.
Hearing this, the colour drained from Mei Ler’s lovely face beneath her veil.
Although the Elf Race had rules against outside Races causing disorder in their territory, even when minor skirmishes broke out between outside Races, they would not impose a punishment this severe.
In a world where the strong ruled, having one’s cultivation stripped was considerably worse than being killed directly.
Shi Weixi, hearing this from the other side, felt a quiet surge of delight. Having his cultivation stripped and being expelled from the Elf Forest, did that not mean this brat still could not escape his grasp? And moreover, he would be sparing himself a lot of effort.
“Yes!”
On hearing the order, the Elf patrol squad captain’s expression shifted slightly. He evidently felt the punishment was a touch severe, yet he had no intention of questioning Fiery’s verdict.
