Chapter 1092, Sparing Their Lives
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
After the Levels and Professions of every member of the Tie Family had been wiped away, Tie Fusheng’s body had already begun to turn translucent.
It seemed that the Skill just now had placed an enormous strain on his body as well.
When one thought about it, that was entirely understandable. This was a Skill capable of erasing the Levels and Professions of every person present. It could only be described as a Godly Skill, and nothing less than that.
Only when one’s power represented a complete and utter crushing dominance could he strip the opposing side of their abilities so effortlessly, reducing them all to crippled wretches in an instant.
Had the Skill’s targets been opponents whose strength was comparable to his own, or even superior, it would have been extraordinarily difficult to make this Skill take effect at all.
Within the entire Tie Family, the only person whose strength had surpassed Tie Fusheng’s was the Tie Family Ancestor. Now that the Ancestor was dead, erasing the Levels and Professions of everyone else presented did not face much opposition.
Yet the crux of the matter was this: what Tie Fusheng had erased were the Skills and Levels of every last member of the Tie Family. It was the entire Family, without exception.
The sheer difficulty of this feat was in no way lesser than reducing someone of the Tie Family Ancestor’s calibre to a cripple.
And so, Tie Fusheng had all but exhausted his own Vitality to its very limits. Only by doing so had he managed to strip the entire Tie Family of any combat capability whatsoever.
His body had begun to dissolve with the casting of this Skill, leaving behind nothing more than an empty shell that might dissipate at any moment.
Tie Fusheng’s face was etched with utter exhaustion. He lowered his head and looked at his translucent body, then let out a long, slow breath.
After a moment, he turned his gaze to Ye Wuxian, and offered a faint smile. “With things as they are now, you should be willing to spare the members of my Tie Family, shouldn’t you?”
Ye Wuxian was deeply shaken by what he had done. She had never anticipated that Tie Fusheng possessed such a formidable Skill. It was one capable of erasing even a Player’s Profession and Level. She also never expected that he would turn this very Skill upon his own Family members, all for the purpose of reducing them to crippled individuals who posed no threat whatsoever to the Ye Family.
A group of cripples, whether Ye Wuxian killed them or let them go ultimately made little difference.
“What you’ve done has surprised me.” Said Ye Wuxian, her composure restored. She looked at Tie Fusheng again, and found that the man was not nearly as foolish as she had originally thought.
Tie Fusheng smiled again. “Surprised? When I think about it, it seems as though this was the only way to save the rest of the Tie Family. Had I not done this, the Tie Family would have been truly finished. Miss Ye, I have already gone this far. I only ask that you show mercy. The Tie Family no longer has any possibility of taking revenge against you. So please spare these people and let them live. From here on, they will return to being ordinary people, labouring for a living, no longer the proud members of a Supreme Tier Ancient Noble Family standing high above others.”
Ye Wuxian did not reply immediately. She fell into contemplation.
Letting them go was not entirely out of the question.
As Tie Fusheng had said, the people present posed no threat to her whatsoever. Even if she allowed them to leave, it would make no real difference.
Yet there was no particular reason to do so, either.
If Ye Wuxian simply cut them all down here and now, what of it? No one would dare utter a word of protest, and she would save herself a great deal of trouble in the future.
Seeing that Ye Wuxian showed no inclination to easily pardon the Tie Family’s members, Tie Fusheng clenched his jaw and said, “If you truly wish to kill, then kill a few more, if you must. I say only what I have said before. There are many innocent people within the Tie Family. My only wish is that you, Miss Ye, spare them. Beyond that, I ask for nothing.”
By the time he reached the last words, Tie Fusheng’s voice had grown faint and distant.
His body began to crumble along with it, clearly unable to sustain itself any longer.
And it was like this that Tie Fusheng’s body dissolved into green particles, like wind-scattered sand, drifting away through the air and vanishing without a trace.
For a moment, the Tie Family base fell to utter silence. And then the commotion among the Tie Family members surged louder than ever.
Some of the more hot-headed individuals cursed Tie Fusheng furiously for his stupidity, saying there was no sense in using such a Skill on his own people to beg forgiveness from an outsider.
What Tie Fusheng had done, in their view, had plunged the entire Tie Family into an abyss, turning them all into playthings for Ye Wuxian to butcher at her leisure.
Others wept without ceasing.
These people were the cool-headed ones. They saw things more clearly.
They understood that if Tie Fusheng had led the Tie Family in a head-on clash against Ye Wuxian and her companions, annihilation would have been the only outcome. Yet by abandoning all struggle and resistance, and instead erasing everyone’s Levels and Professions, he had left a path of survival open to them.
Whether that path could truly be walked depended entirely on Ye Wuxian’s Will. However, it was still infinitely preferable to the certainty of a thousand deaths and no survivors.
And so, Tie Fusheng’s approach had not been wrong.
The Patriarch’s final choice had been overly soft. However, it had also been the only means of preserving the lives of the remaining Family members.
More than that, he had paid for that choice with his own life.
As Tie Fusheng disappeared, Ye Wuxian stared at the place where he had been and sank into deep thought.
After a long moment, she laughed quietly at herself, then raised her voice and declared. “Since the Patriarch of the Tie Family pleaded with his life, I have seen this sincerity of his with my own eyes. Every one of you here has ceased to be a Player. Killing so many defenceless people is meaningless.”
“Since that is the case, you may all leave. The Tie Family has a Transport Array. It can take you out of the Western Border and into ordinary human society, right? I will give you half an hour. Take the Transport Array and leave. After half an hour, anyone who remains within this territory will be treated as someone seeking to defy me. They will be executed on the spot, without exception.”
She paused, then continued. “Quickly move. Half an hour is not a generous amount of time. My patience only goes as far as this half an hour.”
With that, she descended from the air and settled upon the shoulder of the Asura King.
The Tie Family members listened to Ye Wuxian’s words in stupefaction.
No one had imagined that, with every opportunity to slaughter them all, she would ultimately choose to let everyone go.
It was now clear that Tie Fusheng’s choice had been the right one. He had fought and won a path of survival for them all.
After only the briefest of hesitations, every single member of the Tie Family surged toward the Profession Change Hall, intent on boarding the Transport Array to leave.
As for returning to their homes first to gather belongings, there was plainly no time for that.
Every one of them was now an ordinary person. They had no way of using Flying Skills or items. Simply reaching the Profession Change Hall and boarding the Transport Array left them with almost no time to spare as it was.
What if, because of the queue, they failed to leave within the allotted half hour, and Ye Wuxian truly began her slaughter?
The fact that Ye Wuxian had spared them did not mean she would not kill them.
At that moment, every member of the Tie Family rushed in mass toward the Profession Change Hall. Not a single Soul dared to linger.
Seeing the Tie Family members cooperating so obediently, Jian Ying and the others chose not to act either, and simply watched as the crowd scrambled over one another to leave.
