So long as the Sacred Jiang Family appeared, the other eight Sacred Lands that had once buried and slaughtered the Sacred Jiang Family’s finest would certainly move to eradicate them.

After all, if the Sacred Jiang Family truly existed, vengeance was only a matter of time.

To rebuild the Sacred Jiang Family beneath the vigilant suppression of eight rival Sacred Lands, growing it to the scale that Lu Fan had witnessed…

How extraordinarily difficult that would be.

[Was this Sacred Jiang Family truly the same one from a thousand years ago?] Lu Fan voiced his doubts. In response, Situ Qianqian could offer him no definitive answer.

However, Situ Qianqian had done everything within her power, gathering every available piece of information concerning the Sacred Jiang Family and compiling it into a file, which she then handed to Lu Fan.

Lu Fan flipped through it, and had barely finished the third page when his expression shifted noticeably.

Seeing that change in him, Situ Qianqian immediately asked what the matter was.

Lu Fan pointed to a portrait in the dossier and asked in disbelief, “Is this person depicted here the Sacred Master of the Sacred Jiang Family?”

Situ Qianqian looked at the portrait. It depicted a middle-aged man with a long beard, his features imposing and domineering.

Though the portrait was several centuries old, even now one could discern the commanding authority of this figure from the distant past.

“This should be the Jiang Family’s Patriarch, and Sacred Master, Jiang Baishen.” Situ Qianqian said, not entirely certain. “At least, from what we know, that is who he appears to be. Among the nine Sacred Lands, Jiang Baishen’s strength was second to none. Records of him should exist within every major Sacred Land. His appearance is not a particular secret, so the authenticity of this portrait should be fairly high.”

Lu Fan fell silent for a long moment. When he finally spoke, his voice was quiet. “This Jiang Baishen, I have seen him before.”

“What!? You have seen him before!?” It was now Situ Qianqian’s turn to be stunned.

Jiang Baishen had been the Sacred Master of the demolished Sacred Jiang Family. If he had lived to the present day, he would be well over a thousand years old.

Even among Players, very few possessed such longevity.

Those who had survived for thousands upon thousands of years were, for the most part, not Players at all, but Monsters, whose lifespans were inherently far longer than those of Humans by nature.

Even a Player who had achieved Divinity would have a lifespan of only a few centuries, perhaps just barely reaching a thousand years.

Jiang Baishen, according to records from before the destruction of the Sacred Jiang Family, had already been over seven hundred years old.

If he had survived to the present day, his lifespan would be approaching two thousand years.

He would have utterly transcended the boundaries of what any Human lifespan ought to be.

Beside them, Ouyang Bai Ge, who had remained silent throughout, spoke with clear calmness. “Even if you have seen him, that doesn’t necessarily prove much. For an Ancient God, extending a person’s life by a thousand years, or even granting them endless longevity, is not difficult at all.”

Lu Fan nodded. “True. Since the Sacred Jiang Family has conspired with the Slaughter Ancient God, the Slaughter Ancient God would certainly have extended the lifespans of those beneath his command, to keep them in his service.”

With that, Lu Fan continued reading through the intelligence report on the Sacred Jiang Family.

The first half of the report was unremarkable. It was a chronicle of the Sacred Jiang Family’s development over the years.

Lu Fan had assumed the report would simply conclude with the destruction and plundering of the Sacred Jiang Family.

What he had not expected was this: two hundred years after the Sacred Jiang Family was annihilated, someone suddenly appeared in the Western Border claiming to be a member of the Sacred Jiang Family.

What made it stranger still was that this person had no genuine connection to the Sacred Jiang Family whatsoever.

The first person to claim affiliation with the Sacred Jiang Family was a young outsider from the Sacred Feng Family.

This young man possessed exceptional Talent, not only had he gotten a powerful Hidden Profession, but he had subsequently encountered one fateful opportunity after another and had even obtained the blueprint of a top-quality Legendary Grade Item.

With sufficient materials, this Legendary Grade Item could be crafted to completion, forged into a tremendously powerful equipment, which Attributes could touch the very threshold of the Mythical Grade.

Equipment of this calibre was extraordinarily rare even within a Sacred Land.

Yet this young man was merely an outsider, not part of the direct Bloodline. Naturally, others would have their eyes on him.

A Young Master of the Feng Family’s direct lineage had taken a fancy to the young man’s Legendary Grade Item blueprint. He privately sent men to demand it, offering terms that were entirely devoid of sincerity.

    The young outsider naturally refused.

After all, once this Legendary Grade Item was crafted into its completed form, his Talent alone would guarantee him a future as a pillar of the Feng Family. Even as an outsider, there was every chance he could be elevated into becoming a core member.

What he did not know was how laughable it was to imagine the Feng Family would ever truly value his loyalty.

Later, during a mission, the Feng Family Young Master set a trap, stranding him in the

Wilderness of the Western Border and forcibly seizing his Legendary Grade Item blueprint. As for the young outsider himself, he fought desperately and fled, his Level dropping sharply as a result.

The Feng Family Young Master had no intention of finishing him off. After all, the man was already broken, and in the peril-laden wilderness of the Western Border, even if he escaped, death would come for him soon enough.

That Feng Family Young Master subsequently succeeded in crafting the Legendary Grade Item. He rose to become an Elder of the Feng Family, his power terrifying, his status lofty.

For a long time afterward, he even wore the betrayal of his fellow Family member as a badge of honour, recounting the tale to his own Descendants, letting them understand that in the pursuit of strength, any means were justified.

But this story did not end so simply.

A hundred years later, this Feng Family Young Master led his Descendants into the Western Border to explore and claim new territory. However, he never returned.

The Feng Family later dispatched men to search for them, and in the Wilderness, they found his body and the bodies of the others.

Lodged in his corpse was that very same Legendary Grade Item, all shattered. Beside him lay a strip of paper.

‘A world forsaken by the Gods deserves to be destroyed!’

The name signed at the bottom of that note read, ‘Sacred Jiang Family, Feng Butong.’

This Feng Butong was none other than the young outsider from before.

The people of the Sacred Feng Family were utterly shaken, unable to believe that Feng Butong was still alive.

They brought the note back to the Feng Family and compared it against the handwriting Feng Butong had left behind in the past. The writing was identical, without question.

From that point forward, Feng Butong was never seen again.

Yet Feng Butong, and the Sacred Jiang Family that had so suddenly reappeared, became the abiding nightmare of the Feng Family.

At this time, the name of the Sacred Jiang Family had not yet drawn serious attention.

The people of the Sacred Feng Family assumed that Feng Butong had simply used the name of the Sacred Jiang Family as a cover for his vengeance.

But as time passed, several similar incidents occurred throughout the Western Border.

In nearly every case, it was someone who had been wronged by a Sacred Land returning for retribution, leaving behind the name of the ‘Sacred Jiang Family’ as their calling card.
