Chapter 1174, What Does an Outsider Like You Know?
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
That aura sent even the Devouring Dragon King reeling under a wave of pressure.
“Truly worthy of being an Ancient God. To think its power could rise to such terrifying heights… If this were not a fight to the death, I would have turned and run long ago. Who in their right mind would choose to battle an existence like this?”
Lu Fan smiled faintly and said, “What a pity, then, that this is a fight to the death. If we cannot kill him, every one of us dies. Speaking of which, can you actually kill him? If not, it is not too late to let me ride you right now. The Attributes on me are nothing to be scoffed at. With my Attributes added to yours, your power would rise by another notch.”
*Pui!* The Devouring Dragon King gave not the slightest concession to Lu Fan’s dignity. “What a lovely dream you’re having. This Grandma has no need of that paltry little contribution of yours. So your strength has improved somewhat, has it? I can still handle this just fine!”
With that, an astonishing aura erupted from the Devouring Dragon King’s own body. Aura after Aura lit up across her, each one evidently some manner of Buff Skill, elevating her power to a dramatically higher level.
In an instant, the Devouring Dragon King’s physical form grew noticeably larger. Her scales lengthened by half a measure, each one jutting outward like a blade, making her a sight that no one dared approach.
Her power was thus elevated, the Devouring Dragon King took on an expression of pure competitive stubbornness. Throwing any semblance of tactical discipline to the wind, she charged straight at the Slaughter Ancient God and flung herself back into the fray.
With both sides having undergone a further elevation in power, the intensity of the battle ratcheted up yet another notch.
Even the Golden Asura King, an existence possessed of astonishing Defence, would not dare to charge headlong into the fight and join the fray, fearing to be caught up in the battle’s shockwaves.
Jian Ying and the others piloting the Golden Asura King kept their distance instead, holding their shields to help Ouyang Bai Ge and Han Ke deflect the battle’s spillover that came crashing outward at any moment. They did this while simultaneously unleashing ranged Water Element Skills, contributing what little they could.
By comparison, it was Han Ke whose Skills proved most useful of all.
Han Ke’s Moonlight Barrier, which she used to block incoming attacks, crumbled like paper before the Slaughter Ancient God.
But her Buff Skills were another matter entirely, offering genuine and substantial assistance to the Devouring Dragon King. With her support, the Devouring Dragon King fought with considerably greater ease.
As for Ouyang Bai Ge, she could not quite replicate the effect Han Ke produced.
She continued tearing open rift after rift into the Void World, summoning forth other varieties of Void Insect she possessed, some to assist the Devouring Dragon King, others to create complications for the Slaughter Ancient God.
Though the vast majority of those Void Insects were nothing but cannon fodder, and had barely even demonstrated any measure of their power before the Slaughter Ancient God swept them away with a single Skill, at the very least, Ouyang Bai Ge had contributed something. She assisted the Devouring Dragon King and relieved the latter of no small portion of the pressure weighing down upon her.
With everyone working in concert, the Slaughter Ancient God let out roar after roar, his power surging without end, yet he remained pinned down without respite, unable to seize the upper hand.
His recovery capability was formidable, certainly, but the Devouring Dragon King was no slouch in recovery either!
And besides, Lu Fan, Han Ke, and Tao Xiaoman all had Support Skills.
Even amongst Ouyang Bai Ge’s Void Insects, there existed a variety that resembled glowing fireflies, capable of channelling a steady stream of power to the Devouring Dragon King from range, healing her wounds and restoring both her Stamina and Mana Pool.
With such abundant reserves of support behind her, the Devouring Dragon King, as a fully matured Eternal Phase Dragon King, was capable of fighting for several centuries and remaining at her absolute peak.
Yet despite the initiative remaining firmly in the Devouring Dragon King’s hands, Lu Fan did not feel the current situation was particularly encouraging.
The reason was that though the Devouring Dragon King’s power had been elevated further through her own Skills, pressing down upon the Slaughter Ancient God by yet another degree, if they could not actually kill the Slaughter Ancient God and simply continued fighting him indefinitely, the other party’s power would eventually surge upward and overtake them all.
The key was not whether they could suppress the Slaughter Ancient God, but whether they could kill him!
And as things presently stood, even with everyone’s combined effort, it did not appear they could achieve that.
If the Slaughter Ancient God could not be killed, all their advantages were hollow illusions that would do nothing to change the outcome of their defeat.
“Hey, can you not just kill him already and stop going back and forth with him like this?” Lu Fan called out, continuing to provide support to the Devouring Dragon King from nearby, his tone growing more urgent. “The longer this goes on, he will just keep getting stronger, to the point where none of us can handle it.”
“If you are so capable, why not come and kill him yourself?!” the Devouring Dragon King snapped back at once, giving Lu Fan absolutely no face.
“If I could kill him, I would have done so long ago. Am I keeping him alive for my own amusement?” Lu Fan went momentarily speechless at that, then said with exasperation, “You know perfectly well what the Slaughter Ancient God’s abilities are. If we cannot kill him, we would be better off not fighting him at all. Dragging this out like this will only make things more and more disadvantageous for us!”
“Shut up. I naturally have my own plan!” The Devouring Dragon King declared, whereupon her assault grew even more ferocious. Skills flew from her in a relentless torrent, and with the backing of multiple ‘Supporters’, she expended both Stamina and Mana as though neither had any value whatsoever.
Such a savage and unrelenting offensive only left the Slaughter Ancient God more and more unable to cope.
Before even a few minutes had passed, the Dragon Claws of the Devouring Dragon King gleamed with golden radiance, and she swept out a piercing attack rivalling Ye Sha’s own Skill, slicing several metres clean off the Slaughter Ancient God’s tail!
*Whoosh!*
With a single Dragon Breath, the Devouring Dragon King showed not the slightest mercy, incinerating that severed portion of the Slaughter Ancient God’s body in one fell swoop.
“Do you see that? I am firmly in the lead. When it comes to how to fight, you still need to watch and learn from me. What does an outsider like you know!?” The Devouring Dragon King delivered this icy and cutting remark, rendering Lu Fan speechless.
Even so, he knew perfectly well that the Devouring Dragon King was not reckless.
As a Devouring Dragon, she was cast out and rejected by the other Dragons. She was effectively the common enemy of every other Dragon Clan.
To have survived until now, the Devouring Dragon King had relied on anything but brainless impulse.
[Could it be that she really has a method to deal with the Slaughter Ancient God?!] The thought struck Lu Fan, and he found it very likely.
After all, knowing the Devouring Dragon King’s temperament, unless she had a method that could genuinely overcome the Slaughter Ancient God, she would never have remained here, fighting such a dangerous enemy for this long.
With that realisation, Lu Fan felt a measure of ease settle over him.
The battle continued. Lu Fan summoned forth Projections after Projections in quick succession, assisting the Devouring Dragon King in her engagement with the enemy, helping her maintain her advantage and leaving the Slaughter Ancient God no opportunity to counter.
This battle lasted far longer than Lu Fan had anticipated.
Across the entirety of the Sacred Jiang Family’s territory, with no distinction between day and night, the unbroken, unceasing combat was such that Lu Fan himself eventually lost all sense of time.
