Chapter 1103, An Instant Kill?!
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
He turned.
And what met his eyes was a colossal entity that had been standing directly behind him all along.
Its form was one Lu Fan recognised without hesitation.
The shape of a giant serpent, bearing nine heads, its entire body as still and rigid as a stone statue.
Yet though it resembled a statue, it was anything but a statue.
The moment Lu Fan turned, he could see that those eyes, every pair of them, were a vivid, blood-soaked crimson. And every single one of them had locked onto him with unwavering intensity.
The revelation struck him with profound disbelief. From the very beginning until now, despite possessing Black Dragon Perception, he had not detected anything, not even a trace of this entity’s presence.
It had been standing right behind him the entire time, and yet he had perceived only empty air.
Either this entity was extraordinarily adept at concealing its own aura…
Or it was so immensely powerful that, should it choose, it could close the distance to Lu Fan without him registering so much as a flicker of it approaching.
Either possibility told Lu Fan the same thing: if this entity wanted him dead, it would be effortless.
Lu Fan and the Slaughter Ancient God held each other’s gaze for the span of a single heartbeat. Then, in the next instant, a tide of overwhelming killing intent and pressure came crashing toward him like a breaking wave!
Lu Fan’s mind sharpened into a razor’s edge. With a sweep of his hand, multiple Summoning Arrays were sketched into existence in rapid succession.
The entity clearly had no interest in exchanging words. From the very first moment, it was going straight for the kill.
Lu Fan naturally had no intention of standing by passively. Even though this was merely a Projection, if he could probe the extent of the Slaughter Ancient God’s power, this trip would not have been in vain.
*Boom… Rumble…*
Thunder rolled from within the Slaughter Ancient God’s body, his massive frame shuddering as though attempting to shed the stone-like casing that covered him.
Initially, Lu Fan had believed that regardless of how formidable the Slaughter Ancient God might be, he should at least possess the power to contend with him.
Once all his Pet Dragons’ Projections had been summoned, he would engage the Slaughter Ancient God in an all-out clash, to find the true measure of his strength.
But what followed defied every single one of his expectations.
In the very next instant, a violent gust of wind swept toward him without warning. Before he had any chance whatsoever to react, one of the enormous serpent heads had already plunged downward, its jaws snapping shut around him with devastating force.
Lu Fan’s Projection, his Summoning Arrays still only half-drawn, were all obliterated in that single bite.
And it was not only Lu Fan’s form that was destroyed. The precious High Grade stone, which made up the platform beneath his feet, this material of extraordinary hardness, had been crushed as though it were mere paper. It left a deep crater where he had stood. Cracks radiated outward across the entire altar like fracture lines in shattered glass, the structure looking as though it might give way at any moment.
That level of Attack could effortlessly destroy Epic Grade equipment. Yet, it was done with a casualness that defied all comprehension.
Even Legendary Grade item might not withstand a single strike from the Slaughter Ancient God.
The sheer power of the Slaughter Ancient God’s offensive power, it was terror manifested in full.
The force of that single blow set the entire altar shaking. It took a long moment before stillness returned.
Below, the Sacred Jiang Family’s assembled members, witnessing the Slaughter Ancient God move personally and with such cataclysmic effect, all dropped to their knees as one, Not a single one of them dared to lift their heads.
Jiang Baishen, the Sacred Master of the Sacred Jiang Family, also the long-bearded middle-aged man who had spoken with Lu Fan, was the one figure of highest standing among them. He was the sole person who remained standing.
He clasped his hands together toward the Slaughter Ancient God in a gesture of deep respect. “A mere outside dared to intrude and disrupt the ceremony held in your honour. This was our failure to properly maintain your sanctuary. Such a trivial matter need not require your personal intervention. If we believers surged forward together, we would have brought this person to heel ourselves.”
The Slaughter Ancient God’s body remained motionless as a stone statue. Only the single head that had struck Lu Fan shifted slightly, rising once more to a proud angle, his gaze settling on the space where Lu Fan had vanished.
His massive jaws did not open, yet a voice resonated from deep within him.
“You? A fighter of that calibre was beyond your ability to handle.”
“Oh?” Jiang Baishen was faintly startled, a trace of disbelief crossing his features. “Sure, the man did possess a degree of skill, I grant you that. Those two Skills he demonstrated, each one could be called a Divine Skill in its own right. But the notion that any single person could stand against our entire Sacred Jiang Family by themselves is ridiculous. Surely no one in this world is capable of that. Even those Divine Beings who left their mark in history would not dare to make such a boast against our Sacred Jiang Family, much less some unknown reckless young man.”
“Reckless young man?” The Slaughter Ancient God gave a contemptuous laugh. “That was no reckless young man. He was a truly remarkable existence. The Divine Beings you speak of are not true Divine Beings at all. But he, he is a true Divine Being. A true God.”
*Siiii…* Jiang Baishen drew a sharp breath, grasping the implication of those words. “Are you saying he is also an Ancient God?”
“There were not one, but two of them.” The Slaughter Ancient God’s tone was light, almost indifferent. “What appeared just now was not his True Body. It was a mere Projection.”
“And that particular ability to transport him here, must have been the work of the Void Ancient God. I am personally acquainted with the Void Ancient God. I know her appearance and her aura. They bear no resemblance whatsoever to that young man who had just appeared. It is clear that he must have, at some point within this era, seized an Ancient God’s Divine Seat and made it his own, becoming a new Ancient God in his own right.”
Jiang Baishen’s astonishment deepened further. “Is that even possible… for someone to seize an Ancient God’s Divine Seat? Aren’t Ancient Gods supposed to be beings that can never be overcome…?”
“What cannot be overcome? With the aid of other Ancient Gods, defeating one that has not fully awakened and stripping it of its Divine Seat is, in truth, not that difficult.” The Slaughter Ancient God’s voice carried a cold clarity. “In this era, he must have had an Ancient God’s assistance. The path he used to reach this place was through the Void World, which means the Void Ancient God stands on the same side as him.”
“The Void Ancient God has long been dissatisfied with the system of the Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy. I believe she has resolved herself to use this era to overturn that system.”
“And the method of overturning it…” The Slaughter Ancient God let out a cold laugh, “would naturally be to have herself or an ally emerge victorious from the Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy, and then bury all the remaining Ancient Gods permanently, so that the next era will never start.”
“She must harbour that objective and has already begun putting it into practice. There is no telling how many Ancient Gods’ Divine Seats have already been seized by their people.”
A brief pause followed. Then the Slaughter Ancient God’s voice dropped into something colder still. “What a joke. The Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy, followed by the annihilation of one era and the opening of the next, is merely the correct cycle of succession.”
“If a single era persists for too long, far too many uncontrollable things begin to occur. After all, even the Ancient Gods who created this world cannot know what manner of things might emerge under the World Principles they set. These are things that not even the Ancient Gods themselves can fully govern.”
“What fools. Do they truly believe that by halting the transition between eras, this world can be kept stable?” A note of cold mockery entered his voice. “How pathetically laughable.”
