Chapter 1219, Something Is Wrong

“Who exactly is being stubborn here, you or me?” The Flame Dragon was immediately displeased upon hearing this. “That is clearly the Three Linked Mountain, so how could it possibly be Great Summit Mountain?! Take a look! On the highest of those three mountain peaks, is there not a hole? That hole was left behind when I was comprehending one of my Skills. I went to Three Linked Mountain to experiment with it, testing its power. I know perfectly well what kind of mark my own Skill would leave behind, so how could I possibly be mistaken!? That is why I am certain, that is Three Linked Mountain!”
Pausing briefly, the Flame Dragon added, “Furthermore, that Skill was my Great Blazing Heaven. You should be familiar with that Skill, and know what sort of devastation it would leave behind. Take a careful look. Is the hole on that mountain peak not exactly the same kind of hole?”
Upon hearing the Flame Dragon say this, the Two Headed Dragon’s expression immediately shifted into one of bewilderment.
He narrowed his eyes, peering carefully at the hole on that mountain peak, and indeed discovered that, although the entire mountainside had been covered with mud, the hole had faintly yet unmistakably been preserved.
And that hole was, without any doubt, identical to the mark left behind by the Flame Dragon’s Skill.
Seeing the Two Headed Dragon’s expression, the Flame Dragon knew at once that the other had spotted something.
He smugly declared, “Well? Was I wrong? There you have it. This is definitely Three Linked Mountain!”
“But…” The Two Headed Dragon’s face was filled with disbelief, apparently deep in thought, carefully tracing in his mind all the positions he and Lu Fan’s group had passed through on their journey, attempting to deduce exactly where they currently were.
“But by all logic, this should be the location of Great Summit Mountain… Even if my memory is a little off, it shouldn’t be off by this much. Think about it. Three Linked Mountain is at the deepest part of the Valley of Life, practically right where Mother is rooted. We’ve come all this way from the entrance. How far have we actually moved? At most, we’ve passed through only half of the Valley of Life, right?”
“How could we have walked all the way to Three Linked Mountain? Furthermore, if we keep going forward past Three Linked Mountain, we should be able to see the boundary of the Valley of Life. Just look around us, does any of this look like we’ve arrived at the boundary of the Valley of Life!?”
Hearing the Two Headed Dragon say this, the Flame Dragon’s expression also grew somewhat uncertain, and rather than arguing back, he nodded and said, “What you’re saying makes sense. To say that we’ve reached Three Linked Mountain this quickly does indeed seem a bit too fast. And besides, apart from the three mountains themselves, and the hole on the mountain, the surrounding terrain doesn’t resemble the landscape near Three Linked Mountain either. So, this is truly strange. Just where exactly are we?”
“If it isn’t Three Linked Mountain, then why would the mark left by my Skill be here, and the heights of these three peaks also roughly correspond to Three Linked Mountain. But if this is Three Linked Mountain, then nothing else around here matches Three Linked Mountain at all…”
Lu Fan, seeing that the two Giant Dragons were expending considerable energy on this matter, was unbothered by it. He waved his hand and said, “You two don’t have to be so insistent about this, right? This place has already been influenced by the Ancient God Power of the Desolate Ancient God. Its mud has covered everywhere. It’s inevitable that the terrain would change. Perhaps that hole merely happens to resemble the one left by your Skill, and nothing more. Maybe this really is Great Summit Mountain, maybe it’s Three Linked Mountain, or perhaps it isn’t either. Since such a massive change has occurred in the Valley of Life, you two should stop trying to match the terrain of the Valley of Life in your memories against the current Map.”
Ye Wuxian nodded, expressing agreement with Lu Fan’s words. “Exactly. Maps change over time. With a transformation this big, it’s perfectly normal for you to be mistaken. I grew up in the Western Border, and when I left for more than ten years and came back, I found that the terrain on many Maps had changed. They no longer match the scenes I remembered from my childhood. If I hadn’t had a map with me, I might have gotten lost in the very place I grew up in. If the outside world is already like that, so what more needed be said of a place that has undergone such a drastic change?”
The Two Headed Dragon and the Flame Dragon looked at each other and could only concede, reluctantly, that Lu Fan and Ye Wuxian were not wrong.
In truth, throughout the entire journey, the two of them had frequently discussed in private what each location had once been, using this to search for the Valley of Life they remembered.
It was clear now that doing so had only added to their troubles.
After all, at this point the two of them were already unable to find anywhere in the Valley of Life that felt familiar.
Rather than debating whether that mountain was Three Linked Mountain or Great Summit Mountain, it would be far more productive to discuss how their group was supposed to find the Desolate Ancient God.
If they killed the Desolate Ancient God and let the place return to its original appearance, wouldn’t they know then what mountain it was?
With this in mind, the Flame Dragon and the Two Headed Dragon attempted to join in Lu Fan and the others’ discussion, to see if there was any method by which they could locate the Desolate Ancient God.
It was at this very moment that another Void Insect came flying back.
Earlier, Ouyang Bai Ge had released many Void Insects to continuously confirm the Desolate Ancient God’s position, something everyone was well aware of.
So, at the return of yet another Void Insect, Lu Fan and the others felt no surprise.
However, Lu Fan noticed that this particular Void Insect that had returned seemed somewhat different from the previous ones.
After Ouyang Bai Ge received the intelligence brought back by this Void Insect, her expression became grave and heavy.
Seeing this, Lu Fan immediately sensed that some bad news had arrived, and hurriedly asked, “What’s the matter, Teacher Ouyang? Surely we haven’t lost track of the Desolate Ancient God, right?”
Ouyang Bai Ge shook her head. “That’s not it. My Void Insects are extremely covert. They were cultivated purely for the purpose of confirming the Desolate Ancient God’s location. Its movements cannot possibly escape the senses of my Void Insects. But, there is indeed one piece of bad news.”
As she spoke, she spread open her palm, and there in her hand was unmistakably the Void Insect from just moments ago.
“This Void Insect is somewhat different from the previous ones.” Ouyang Bai Ge explained. “In addition to being able to confirm the Desolate Ancient God’s position, it has one other ability, which is to observe what manner and at what speed the Desolate Ancient God is moving. My thinking was, if we know how it is actually moving, we can find a way to catch up to it. But what I discovered is that the Desolate Ancient God is moving in a suspicious manner!”
